Chapter 311: Meeting Him Again

Leaving Arata with Meena, Zyair and Skyla went to visit Madame Maven’s grave. The black dress she had adorned was simple and loose. Today she had braided her hair, she never braided it. Madame Maven used to braid her hair.

On the way, they bought some flowers for her. Skyla sat rather calmly and quietly. Zyair couldn’t stop glancing at her every few seconds and being worried.

All her emotions seemed to have been locked up in the dungeon and she had thrown away the key. His wife hadn’t cried or spoken much after she had asked Zyair about Doran. freeweɓnovel.cѳm

Such calmness from her was terrifying Zyair. Soon they arrived at the cemetery where Madame Maven was buried. It was the same place where Skyla’s parents were eternally resting as well.

Zyair helped Skyla out of the car and led her forward. She tightly clutched the flowers in her hands. Kail stayed behind to wait.

The wind had turned colder, announcing the arrival of winter.

They walked quietly but he kept his arm around her waist. Arriving at the not-very-old grave with white tombstone, Zyair grimly said.

"Here!"

Skyla took in the grave of the woman who had taken care of her since she had been born. She was like a second mother to Skyla and now she was gone.

Bending down, Skyla placed two white roses on the grave. The tears followed. Zyair gently held her so she wouldn’t squat in this position. He quietly helped her kneel and mourn the loss of that amazing woman.

She silently cried and choked out to Zyair. Living yet again the torturous memories of that day.

"I screamed and she rushed out of the kitchen to see what had happened. That’s when they shot her, there was no hesitation. Is this how cheap life has gotten?"

Zyair knelt beside her, wrapping his arm around her sunken shoulders.

"Those who sell their souls are nothing but empty shells. They don’t have any emotions and don’t care for life. They have been captured and will be punished for their crimes. It won’t bring Madame Maven back but she will find peace." He let Skyla lean on him as she rubbed the ground under which Maven had been buried.

"She used to keep all my secrets. Would sneak me in whenever I would come home late after partying with Huria. She had been there for me in the darkest hours when Doran would leave me physically and mentally handicapped. And he took her away," she brokenly said and Zyair silently listened, letting her vent.

There was a storm of memories Skyla carried for that woman and now that was all that remained.

Memories.

After paying her respects and wiping her tears Skyla got up, helped by Zyair. She still had two flowers in her hands.

"I would like to visit my parents," she told him and he nodded. Letting her lead the way they arrived at the location.

The two graves stood side by side. Skyla placed one flower each on the grave and offered prayers. She spoke to them about her daughter and Madame Maven.

Zyair quietly listened and offered his respect as well. He felt indebted to them for giving birth to and raising such a resilient woman.

If only his parents were even five per cent of what Skyla’s were. They were alive but rotting in jail, for him they were as good as dead.

Skyla finally faced her husband with an unwavering gaze and declared.

"We should go to him now."

Every cell in Zyair’s body wished to stop her but he didn’t. They needed to get this over with to finally bring their life on track. The irreparable damage Doran had done would never be repaired but they could prevent it from happening any further.

"Come." He generously offered his hand and she quietly took it. They made their way to the car while Kail held the doors open.

Settling in they headed for an unknown destination. A place only Zyair and Kail knew about and now Skyla will do too.

"Karen was finally arrested. She was trying to escape to another city, and police apprehended her at the airport a few hours ago," Kail informed them while driving away from the cemetery.

"Good, I hope they give her a very long sentence. Women like her deserve to rot in jail," Skyla spoke up before Zyair could say anything. The bitterness in her voice revealed how much she had been hurt by that woman.

"A lot of trials are coming up and I am going to ensure all of them get what they deserve, including my parents." It was now Zyair’s turn to be bitter. Skyla turned her head to watch her husband with a hint of curiosity.

"Parents?" She questioned, still unaware of what had unfolded in her absence. Confusion warmed her minty eyes.

Zyair painfully sighed before revealing the truth to her. Her hand instantly went to his and squeezed, their fingers intertwined.

"I am sorry, Zy. They are awful, you truly don’t deserve such parents. So let them waste away for the garbage they are," she said in distaste as if even speaking about them left a bad taste in her mouth.

"Oh! They will. My mercy no longer extends to people like them. They are as good as dead for me."

The thought of him ending up where he belonged eased Skyla a fraction. But until she had spoken to Doran for the final time, there wouldn’t be peace for her. This one final confrontation was mandatory.

They had turned into the shady side of the city. Streets were dirty and mostly empty. They arrived outside a small clothing shop, it was locked from the outside. Parking the car, in the nearby alleyway they got out and Zyair led her forward. Kail used a key to open the glass door and they filed inside.

Shutting it behind them, Kail lowered the shutters and turned the lights on. No one could peek inside anymore.

Skyla curiously glanced around, watching the heaps of men’s clothes on the shelves and dummies.

"What is this place?"

"Just a ruse, come," Zyair said as they moved ahead. Behind some mannequins was another door, Kail opened that too and it led into a corridor. At the end was a thick steel door, which seemed sealed.

Kail remained behind, letting his boss and ma’am go forward.

Zyair extracted a long key from his pants pocket. It was silver with a weathered appearance. Inserting it in the lock, Zyair turned it, unlocking the door. It whirred and opened with a soft click.

His hand instantly went behind her waist as he led her forward into the dark room ahead. Flipping the switch the blue light flooded the room in its bright glow and fell straight on a bloody figure tied to the chair.

Every muscle in Skyla’s body tensed seeing him again. Those icy emotional eyes of his were closed and his head was lowered as if his neck had slacked.

His hands were loosely bandaged, on the healing process after Zyair had broken them. His wrists were tied to the chair and so were his feet. The chair had been bolted into the ground with screws.

A small grime-filled table lay in the corner with a glass and jug on it and a sofa lay opposite. It made her sick just to be here but she had to go through this, for herself and her peace of mind.

"I can stay with you," Zyair softly said, not wanting for her to be alone with him.

"No, I need to do this alone or I will never get over him," she whispered back to her husband but her voice didn’t shake. He could sense the determination coating it.

"Stay at a distance from him and keep your cell phone in hand. Anything and just call me. Although I will be right outside but this place is soundproof," he instructed in detail, placing a small kiss on her temple. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ

"I will." She detached herself from her husband and turned her face a blank slate. The emotions she wore on her sleeve were buried deep inside her not to come out.

Zyair threw one last glance at his wife and reluctantly walked out of the room, slowly closing the door behind him.

Skyla decisively strode forward and filled the glass with water from the jug. The sloshing sound filled the quiet room with no windows.

Once filled she carried it towards Doran and standing opposite him she threw the water on his bloodied face.

Her actions jolted him awake and his head quickly rose. Those chilled eyes of his opened, he found her hardened face and emotionless eyes staring back at him. For a second he thought he was hallucinating until she spoke.

"Give me one good reason why I shouldn’t shoot you in the head and end your wretched life, right NOW," Skyla said with pure disdain and he crookedly smiled back at her.

She was real.
