Chapter 306: Their Daughter’s Name

Zyair returned to the hospital with Lawrence. Bearing gifts for his wife and daughter Balloons, stuffed toys and flowers filled the room. They had brightened up the dull and bleak atmosphere of the hospital room.

The smell of bleach and phenyl was replaced by the scent of fresh flowers.

Skyla was resting but the little one was awake, Huria was playing with her. Lawrence eagerly walked over to the cot to finally see her, rubbing his hands together.

"Awe! Can I have her?" Lawrence expectantly asked, excited to hold the little angel in his arms.

"Of course! Here you go, she is a doll." She carefully picked her up and handed her over. Wrapped in a small soft blanket with pink flowers, which matched her cheeks she had her fragile hand in her mouth.

"Look what we have here. Those curls and fluffy cheeks, she looks like Miss Skyla," Lawrence exclaimed while his face had a splitting grin, seeing the cute fluff ball in his arms, he teased her nose with the tip of his finger.

"Nah! She is her daddy’s copy. See her features, only her hair looks like Skyla’s," Huria pointed out while the little one confusedly watched the two adults talking about her so enthusiastically.

Zyair watched them with a satisfied smile and walked over to his wife. She was sound asleep after taking her meds and feeding their daughter.

Leaning over he gently twirled away the wandering locks from her forehead and pressed his lips to give her an affectionate kiss.

"Did she eat something?" He asked Huria, still staring at her peaceful face and combing her hair with his lithe fingers. He quietly settled down near her head so as not to disturb her sleep. The peace seemed to have returned to his heart.

"Yes, Mrs Kincaid brought her mutton soup. She took it," Huria answered, drawing her attention back to Lawrence and the baby.

"Have you decided on a name?" Lawrence asked while holding her tiny fist in his hand and carrying her closer to Zyair.

Zyair plucked her from Lawrence’s arms and hugged her close to him, taking in the unique scent which only newborns hold.

"Actually Skyla and I have thought of a name but I want to discuss it with her again. Once she wakes up, we will name our daughter," Zyair happily said, kissing the top of her delicate nose.

"Can’t wait to hear it." Huria excitedly clapped while the guys smiled.

"How is Miss Skyla’s health? What has the doctor said?" Lawrence settled down in the chair beside Zyair while Huria began to arrange the flowers Zyair had brought in a vase.

They were Gloriosa and Nightrider Lilies. Both were red to match the hair of both of his girls.

"The doctor says she is on her road to recovery but it will take time. Thankfully no permanent damage was caused. She just needs time to heal properly," Zyair answered in slight relief, his long index finger was held by his daughter, her fragile fingers were so trustfully wrapped around it. Knowing this man would always protect her.

The love that had taken root inside of him with her birth was something he had never experienced before. This was a different kind of love, totally unconditional and he couldn’t stop staring at her round face and pointed chin.

"I will ask Mom to make something for Miss Skyla too and will bring it around next time. They were sending their regards and once Miss Skyla is feeling better, I will bring them around. Cherry is very excited to see the little one," Lawrence added, leaning over to watch her.

"I am sure Cherry and she will become friends. She will surely bestow all her sisterly wisdom to my little one."

"Believe me, she will boss her around," Lawrence said with a giggle falling through his lips. Zyair nodded in agreement.

"All that sass from sister Cheryl will be fun. Isn’t it? Baba’s red-haired doll." He lightly shook her soft and delicate hand which was gripping his finger.

"I think I will head out. I will visit tomorrow with some food," Huria announced, placing the last of the flowers in the vase and turning around to see Zyair playing with his daughter. She wanted to give the couple their privacy, they had already been through a lot and needed each other to heal.

"Me too, call me if there is any need. Take care of Miss Skyla and cutie pie." Lawrence and Huria both gave her farewell kisses before leaving in high spirits. Everyone seemed more relaxed and relieved now that both Skyla and the baby were safe.

Zyair was playing with her when she began to cry at the top of her voice. Her gorgeous eyes closed and that tiny pink mouth opened wide. There were no tears but she wailed and wailed with her hands forming fists. For a tiny creature, she had a volume of a banshee.

"Shh! Don’t cry, Akachan, Baba will fix you a bottle." Zyair had slightly panicked seeing her bawl out like that and he didn’t wish to wake up Skyla.

Although she was a heavy sleeper, her daughter’s cries instantly woke her up. Skyla groggily opened her eyes and was about to try to sit when she remembered about her operation and accident and remained lying down. Turning her head she found her husband cradling their daughter and trying to soothe her while she screamed for attention.

"Zy!" She softly called out and he turned towards her with an apologetic smile.

"Sorry, she is hungry. I was about to fix her bottle."

"Bring her here, I will feed her." Skyla carefully extended her arms and Zyair shifted to gently place the little bundle of crying mess near her mommy.

Zyair slowly lifted the bed with the lever and Skyla shifted her shirt so she could feed the wailing baby. She hungrily latched onto Skyla’s sore nipple and began to drink amidst her cries. They subsided soon and only slurping sounds she made with her mouth remained.

"Phew! She already has an attitude," Zyair said with a shake of his head making Skyla giggle with her eyes bunching together.

"She is just hungry and knows food will only come from her mom’s boobies."

"Well, Baba will soon learn the trick of the bottle," he winked, settling back down beside Skyla and raking his fingers through her hair as he gently asked, "How are you feeling?"

"Better, they are giving me painkillers so there is no pain for now but walking again is going to be a whole new challenge," Skyla partially sighed, keeping her eyes on her daughter who was now falling asleep.

"I will be there with you every step of the way, holding your hand and helping you take every stride, don’t worry."

His fond touch had her lifting her face to those dotingly tender eyes of his. There were such huge dark circles under them. He seemed leaner than before too. She could only imagine what he must have gone through when she went missing. Seemed like he hadn’t been eating and sleeping at all.

"I know, Zy. When did you return? Did you eat something?" Worries were deep-seated in her words as she couldn’t help but stare at him.

"I just did a while ago with Lawrence. He wished to meet you both. You were sleeping so we didn’t disturb you. Huria and Lawrence have just left. Don’t worry about my eating, I need all the focus on you." The tenderness of his words melted Skyla’s heart but the worries remained. She wished for him to eat and rest.

"Did everything go well? And I wish for you to eat and rest a bit." She extended her hand and rested it on his face, letting the invisible fibres of peace wound two of them together.

"Yes, you don’t have to worry about anything. I will handle it all and rest, once we talk a bit." Zyair dotingly kissed her palm and covered them with the fleece blanket as the little one had gone to sleep.

"What do you want to talk about?" Skyla asked, setting her nipple free from her daughter’s mouth and straightening her so she could sleep peacefully.

"We need to discuss the name of our child," Zyair expectantly said, watching her with star-filled eyes. Skyla smiled at his enthusiasm and answered with a genuine smile.

"Arata Zyair; meaning the new beginnings and hopes. She will give a new meaning to our lives and we will enter a peaceful era. That’s my hope."

Zyair’s hand rested on Skyla’s cheek as his lips spread into a heartwarming smile.

"That’s perfect. Arata Zyair it is." Both of them dipped their eyes to watch the curly-headed Arata who was moving her tiny lips in sleep as if she was still drinking milk. Small chuckles erupted from both Zyair and Skyla as they watched her for a while.

"Come lay down with us," Skyla offered, seeing how tired he was. He nodded and soon climbed into bed with them with extra care to not disturb any of them. The place was small but the peace it brought him was magnanimous.

Softly placing his arm underneath Skyla’s head and the other one around them both the three of them drifted off to sleep. It was the most peaceful one he had gotten in the last three weeks.
