Chapter 305: Where Is Madame Maven?
It was late the next day when Huria and Meena were let in to meet Skyla and her baby girl.
Huria tearfully but carefully hugged her friend, they cried together for a while, letting the burdens of their hearts be lessened by each other’s comforting presence.
"You gave me such a scare, girl. I can’t even tell you how happy I am." Huria wiped her tears and distanced herself a bit so as not to overwhelm Skyla.
"You can’t get rid of me that easily," Skyla answered with a small smile.
"I won’t even dream of it. I will check up on my niece now." Huria finally let Skyla go so Meena could meet her and went to the nurse who had been tending to the baby.
Meena held Skyla’s hand, she didn’t hug her for now, trying to be extra careful because of her condition.
"I am so sorry Skyla for my negligence. Can’t express my relief at seeing you safe," Meena tearfully told her daughter-in-law, she knew she wouldn’t be able to forgive herself if something worse had happened to Skyla and her baby.
"It’s not your fault, please rest assured. I will recover and my baby is safe, that’s what matters the most to me."
Huria exclaimed loudly, seeing the bundle of joy. She happily began rocking her niece in her arms, talking cutely with her, and touching her cute nose.
"She is so adores, I am going to spoil her." Placing a hundred kisses on the sleeping baby in her arms she gently carried her to her grandmother.
Meena gladly extended her arms to receive her granddaughter in awe. Her eyes widened seeing how cute the tiny creature was.
"Aww! My beautiful child, your nana is here." Happiness bubbled inside Meena as tears of gratitude took abode in her love-filled eyes.
"Despite her hair, she looks like Zyair," Huria declared while walking over to her friend.
"Yes, she has his features," Skyla agreed with a happy nod.
Meena began to talk and play with the little one while Huria sat beside Skyla and began to comb her hair with her fingers.
"How are you doing Sky? Emotionally? Did that sick head hurt you?" Concern and anger were visible in Huria’s voice.
Skyla sighed, physically and emotionally she was a wreck but was glad to be among her loved ones again. The scars Doran had left on her would take time to heal, especially the way he held that gun and pushed her. It was going to give her nightmares for a long time.
"I am just grateful to be alive and back among the people I love."
"Well, Zyair is going to give him a slow painful death. I am very confident he is not going to hand him over to the police," Huria said with a slightly dark enthusiasm and Skyla shuddered. She had seen the immense hatred Zyair harboured for Doran and after what he had done, Skyla couldn’t help but share the sentiment. He shouldn’t have messed with her baby.
Meena was satisfied that Doran had been captured but her heart went out to her friend, knowing she would be devastated to learn this development about her son.
The little one began bawling even though Meena was rocking her.
"I think she is hungry. Are you hungry, little princess?" Meena asked with a pleasant smile, seeing how she had raised her little fists and was crying at the top of her lungs.
"She needs milk," Skyla said with a smile, lifting her head slightly to look at her daughter. Meena got up and gently laid her beside Skyla so she could feed her. They helped her slightly tilting her body and opening the buttons of her hospital gown.
The little one quickly latched herself on Skyla’s nipple and greedily began to drink. All three women laughed at her antics.
"I will bring you some soup and a change of clothes. Huria will stay with you until Zyair returns," Meena informed her before getting up so she could head home and bring everything Skyla and the baby needed.
Zyair had to give an official statement to the police so he had to leave earlier. But he had requested both Meena and Huria to inform Skyla about Madame Maven.
"Where is Madame Maven? How is her condition?" Skyla suddenly asked, making both women go stiff. But Meena was quick to recover and was able to put a forced smile on her face before lying.
"She is better, you should rest Skyla. You are tired, we will talk later about it." Meena left after that and though Skyla wanted to further the discussion, Huria changed it gracefully by mentioning her mother-in-law.

"Mr Zyair explain to us in detail what happened yesterday?" The lead detective in charge of the investigation asked.
When the police arrived, called by Caleb after they had shifted Doran to a safe location, they only found his secret hideout and a woman tied to the wall by chains.
Now they were sitting in the police station and were taking Zyair’s official statement regarding what had transpired the previous night.
"Caleb called me after discovering that secret room. By the time we arrived and discovered the hidden passageway, he was escaping. Since my wife was pregnant, she was only going to slow him down, so he pushed her to the ground and escaped in the car. I was rushing towards my wife and saw him but my priority was Skyla at that time, we couldn’t chase him. Caleb and I rushed Skyla to the hospital and I don’t know what happened next. I am hoping you will be able to capture him."
Zyair confidently placed his arms on the table and kept a poker face. His eyes held that dangerous glint that showed he meant business. He had no regrets about lying to the police, Doran was his to torment now as he had tormented his wife and tried to kill his unborn child.
"I see. Any chance you saw the license plate of his car?" The lead investigator found it odd that Zyair had gotten there before them and by the time they had arrived, he had already left with his wife. The footage they had found also revealed that Zyair was called by Caleb before the police.
But the story held out, they had interviewed Caleb, the guard who had accompanied them and Lawrence. They all told the same story that Doran had escaped.
"No, I was too preoccupied tending to my wife who was battling for her life," Zyair replied with a hint of sarcasm, his wise eyes taking in all the actions of the detective who was rapidly jotting down on the notepad in his hands.
Zyair and co knew there were no cameras in the back alley and whatever had unfolded there would remain between them.
The police had taken full charge of the room and all the camera footage. Arica had been transported to a hospital under the protection of police. She had been a missing person for 13 years.
"Another woman was discovered in that room in an extremely morbid condition. We were astonished to see how she was even alive. We need to take Mrs Zyair’s statement regarding what she saw in that room and what she went through."
The detective’s words ignited this uncontrollable rage inside Zyair but a morsel of curiosity too about who that woman might be. He let out a frustrated puff of air and tightened his hold on his hands before answering.
"My wife has just come out of death’s doorstep and just given birth to our daughter through a C-section. She is in no condition to give statements. Let her heal before you disturb her with random questions and make her live through the hell she had just come out of. Do you even realise she had been tortured by that man for nine years? I would recommend you use this time to locate him instead of interviewing my wife."
The detective held a tight smile of understanding on his face as he kept his tone light so as not to anger Zyair further.
"I understand, Mr Zyair, how traumatic all this must be for your wife but we are just following protocols. We will give you people privacy for a few more days but then we will need Mrs Zyair’s statement on this. Only she can shed light on what went through and we can prepare a solid case against Doran."
Zyair didn’t want to continue the argument, he understood the police would keep tabs on him for a while. So he would be watching his steps but the place he had Kail shifting Doran was somewhere police would never find him.
"I appreciate your discretion, now if you may I would like to go back to my wife." He stood up with poise, adjusting his wrinkle-free shirt. Lawrence had brought him fresh clothes.
The detective followed and they shook hands.
Zyair left the police station, Lawrence was waiting for him with a big cheeky grin on his face.
"Congratulations on becoming a father, can we go and see your cutie pie? These hands are itching to hold her." He wriggled his fingers in front of Zyair, making him laugh. fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com
"Of course! Our work is done here. Let’s head out towards the hospital. We need to make a few stops though, I want to buy some gifts for my girls," Zyair told him as they mounted the car and drove off towards the hospital with satisfied smiles.
