Chapter 304: Meeting His Daughter
The nurse gave several instructions to Zyair.
"Doctor will visit soon to check up on your wife and the baby," she told him before leaving and closing the door behind her, so they could have a private moment with their child.
He turned all his attention to his daughter. They had dressed her up in the pink onesie Zyair had bought for her with a cute unicorn on it.
"Hey! Little one, Baba is here," Zyair cooed, slowly rocking her in his big arms, which almost hid her tiny body. His heart fluttered and the back of his eyes pricked with unshed tears, making him the happiest man.
She slowly opened her eyes and focused those brightest blues on Zyair, the colour as vibrant as his own.
She stared at him without blinking as if registering his face to her memory. While Zyair observed all of her features up close, her cute pink fluffy cheeks which reminded him of cotton candy, her pointed small chin, that pygmy-sized nose, and soft curls on her head.
As much as he had wanted her to look like Skyla, she was his carbon copy minus the hair. With love birthing inside him and enveloping his body in its folds for this miniature creature in his arms, his lips descended to place a tender yet affection-filled kiss on her little forehead.
Skyla was watching this interaction with teary eyes. This is what had kept her going those three weeks. This endearing and heartfelt moment between the father and daughter.
"Baba loves you. Let’s go meet mama." He adoringly carried her to Skyla and lowered her so she could look at her daughter too.
"Look what we made together. She is so precious," he told her in a shaky voice brimming with emotions.
Skyla hadn’t seen her daughter. She was only informed of her birth when she gained consciousness.
With a palpitating heart and tears shimmering in her eyes, Skyla laid her eyes on her infant for the very first time. The feelings that budded inside her were indescribable in words but she knew she would gladly give her life for this little being.
She was watching her mommy with those big intelligent eyes, they were the exact same colour as Zyair. Her tiny hands were making these puny fists which were half raised in the air as if declaring victory of stepping foot in this world and surviving that fall.
"Zy, I wish to hold her," she requested her husband with a sniffle. Her tears had formed small streams on her face and she just wished to have her daughter in her arms.
Zyair very gently laid her down on Skyla’s chest so she could snuggle with her mommy.
"Oh! My child," Skyla squealed out in relief, wrapping her arms around her baby as she peppered small kisses on her head, "I love you."
Warmth and relief mingled and seeped into her bones, she felt so complete and so blessed. With her husband by her side and her daughter in her arms, unharmed.
The physical pain will disappear soon and she will heal, it was this baby that mattered the most. And if she had to go through this all over again she gladly would.
"She is so perfect and she looks like you, Zy," Skyla lifted her emotional eyes towards her husband and he generously nodded at her holding a tender yet sentimental smile.
He watched his girls with unconditional love. They were back with him and they were safe, rest he would deal with Doran later, for now, all he wished was to watch them.
"She has your hair though, that swells my heart."
Leaning in he kissed both redheads, his big hands endearingly caressed them as he said.
"I love both my girls. Sky, I am grateful that you have given me this beautiful gift of fatherhood."
Skyla patted the little one’s back and answered with a visible sigh. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com
"I was so afraid I was going to lose her and you stuck in a never-ending nightmare."
Zyair wiped her tears with his fingertips, requesting her not to cry. Her pain radiated on his face in full force.
"It’s over..."
The door opened, revealing a doctor and two nurses and they got interrupted again.
"Good morning! Mr and Mrs Zyair. How are you feeling?" The doctor asked with a professional smile, stepping closer to Skyla. She had a stethoscope hanging around her neck, and the white pristine coat she wore had her name card hanging from it. The twinkle in her brown eyes exuded matureness.
Zyair straightened and stood beside his wife as nurses collected the little one from Skyla’s arms and placed her in the cot. Skyla didn’t wish to let go of her baby but she didn’t make a fuss.
"Drowsy and tired, I can’t even move or feel half of my body," Skyla answered as Zyair took her hand and intertwined his with hers.
"Understandable. You have been through a lot. For a few days, we will take it easy and then you will have to start taking a few steps. Also, I recommend breastfeeding your little one. The nutrients present in breast milk are very essential for the growth of the baby. Especially during the initial stage. Patty, here will guide you." She pointed to the nurse who was changing their daughter’s diaper.
The duo nodded at the doctor in understanding as she continued to speak.
"The body needs at least 6 months to properly heal from the C-section. So we will keep you in the hospital for two weeks because of all the injuries you received. Ensuring you will start the healing process and your stitches are removed. For now, you need to rest, and take a very light diet like soups, broth or rice. No tension or lifting of any kind of weight. Your stitches could come out and you can develop infections in case of carelessness."
Skyla understood the gravity of it. She had wished for a natural birth but the circumstances had led to a C-section.
"We understand, I will ensure that all of your instructions are properly followed," Zyair respectfully added, holding reverence for the doctor who had saved his wife and daughter’s life.
"I very much expect that. You can join your family and update them while we take care of Skyla, change her bandages and guide her on how to feed her child. Later you and your family can come meet them," the doctor suggested and Skyla’s hold tightened on Zyair’s hand almost automatically. The fear clung to her like a poisonous vine, digging its thorns into her skin. She didn’t wish for him to leave her.
"No, let my husband stay. Please?" She squealed out in a hurtful voice, and tears began dripping from her eyes again. The angst of being ripped from him had been deeply rooted in her now and she could see it not leaving her anytime soon. She was trying to be strong but she was extremely vulnerable in that situation.
Zyair’s other hand cradled Skyla’s face as he turned to his disturbed wife. Her tears were like acid on his skin, he would do anything to make them stop. They physically hurt him.
"I am right outside, I promise. Mom and Huria are here as well. They are very excited to meet you. So let’s listen to the good doctor, take the meds, feed our girl, freshen up and we will meet again soon." He slowly kissed the tip of her nose letting his lips rest so she could soak in his reassurance.
"Deep breaths. Just like that, my strong girl," he kept encouraging her.
Skyla’s heart brutally ached, she didn’t wish to separate from him but knew it was necessary. Her breathing was coming out ragged, but Zyair held her not caring who was watching. He needed to calm her down before he would leave.
Finally, after a few deep breaths, she had relaxed enough to let him go. The doctor and the nurses watched the loving couple in awe. They knew of their story and couldn’t help but gush at the love they held for each other.
Zyair then moved away, gave his daughter a loving kiss and asked the doctor before leaving.
"Please! Take care of my wife and child and let me know when I can see them again."
"We will, don’t worry. They are in good hands." The doctor nodded as he walked out of the room. Skyla’s heart sank like a heavy metal orb but she knew she had to stay resilient.
The nurse brought her little one to her. They raised the upper side of the bed with the help of the lever so Skyla’s torso was lifted without her having to move. Her baby was placed beside her.
"Let’s help you feed her. It will be difficult in the beginning but we will guide you and soon you will be doing it on your own."
The slow and new process of breastfeeding began as Skyla held her daughter close and followed the instructions. It was indeed a beautiful feeling to feed your child.
