Chapter 303: His Wife And Daughter

The next few hours stretched like days for Zyair. Rais left to help Lawrence deal with the police. They didn’t want the police to disturb Zyair and his family in these private moments. Huria and Meena stayed with him.

He didn’t sit for a second nor did he eat or drink the refreshments Huria brought. His mind was focused on his daughter and wife.

Finally, the nurse came with glad tidings.

The doctor had finally permitted him to see them. The child had been removed from the incubator as she had started to breathe on her own but was still in the nursery. Skyla’s condition had stabilised too.

"Mr Zyair, you can see your wife and child now. But first, you would need to change the shirt," she informed him and a wave of extreme joy ran through them.

"Their condition is stable now?" He questioned holding out hope.

"Yes! They are out of danger."

"Go meet them, Zyair." Meena joyfully said, her own heart eased a bit hearing the good news. Huria slumped on the seat too in a much-relaxed manner as well. She knew her friend was strong and would pull through.

Zyair hurriedly followed the nurse. He first changed that blood-soaked shirt and was offered a green hospital gown. He sanitised himself and removed his shoes as well.

The man with the mesmerising blue eyes went to see his wife with red hair, first. He wasn’t allowed to go into the room yet as she was sleeping and doctors recommended she not be disturbed. But they had shifted her from the emergency ward into the room. He was allowed to watch her from the glass window.

Attached to so many tubes and monitors, she seemed so lifeless just lying there in a green hospital gown with her eyes closed. Covered by a thin blanket, her beautiful curls like ringlets of Celosia flowers were strewn all over the pillow.

Thud! Thud! Thud!

His heart went which had almost stopped so many times in the course of the last 12 hours. He hated this glass window between them. When will all these obstacles between them finally end?

Placing his hand on the glass he silently watched his wife who was finally sleeping peacefully. His mind wondered what she must have endured at the hands of that devil and all the pain she had just gone through to deliver their child. And she would still have to for the course of many months to follow.

"I love you, Sky. Please! Wake up soon and brighten my world again with your smiles. It has become quite dull," he whispered before dragging himself away. He needed to see his daughter now.

A nurse guided him towards the nursery and pointed towards a small cot on the left side, she said with a smile.

"There she is, she is a doll."

Zyair’s awaiting eyes wavered to the little bundle of joy soundly sleeping in the cot. She had been wrapped up in a small pink blanket which Meena had hand knitted for her.

The first thing he noticed was her tiny head filled with red curls, just like her mother.

She was so very tiny that he was sure she would fit onto his forearm. So cute and delicate like a pink rose, with fluffed pinkish cheeks and stub of a nose. His hands itched to hold and kiss her but for now, all he could do was watch from behind the glass.

Standing there, Zyair was an emotional mess. His vision blurred and he couldn’t stop staring at the tiny creature who had all of his heart from the very first moment he had laid eyes on her.

"W—when can I hold her?" Zyair inquired from the nurse, not tearing his eyes away from the neonate that slept so peacefully.

"Soon, just a few more hours. I will bring her to you and will shift her with her mommy. She needs to feed," the nurse informed him before moving away.

Zyair stood there as if his feet had been strapped to the ground, unable to move away from his little princess. She finally began to stir, her eyes wouldn’t even open but the sides of them wrinkled as she made a cute crying face and began to bawl at the top of her lungs.

She had been successful in loosening the blanket from around her by thrusting her delicate arms and legs. The tiniest fists Zyair had ever seen emerged from the blanket as she waved them in the air, demanding attention.

If only that glass wasn’t there, Zyair would have jumped inside and gathered her in his arms.

"Don’t cry, little one," he mumbled, his heart ached from her wails.

Was she hungry?

Was she in pain?

Did she miss her mommy?

So many questions whirled in his mind.

The caretaker instantly moved and collected her in her arms. She had a glass bottle ready for the wailing infant.

A nurse approached him and informed, "Mr Zyair, your wife is awake. You can meet her now."

Tearing his eyes away from the little pink rose who was hungrily latched on a bottle now, Zyair made his way to Skyla. He wasn’t sure he had ever experienced so many mixed emotions in such a short interval of time.

From anger to rage, from desperation to being overwhelmed, from anxiety to relief and then melting from love. ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com

Slowly opening the door of her room, he quietly stepped inside. The lights had been dimmed so she could rest as much as she could. But he heard her soft voice calling him.

"Zy!"

He approached her with quick steps and a rapidly beating heart. She had outstretched her hand towards him. Cannula was still attached to it and glucose was being fed to her through the drip. Zyair quickly but carefully grasped her hand and heaped himself on the floor beside her.

"Sky! My beautiful girl, how are you?" His words barrelled in his throat, it ached as if there was something stuck. A barrage of emotions could be felt in those moments as his desperate eyes focused on her emotional ones.

"Our baby. Did you see her? Is she ok?" Her fingers coiled with his, as warmth and love descended in those green oceans of hers. She seemed so fragile, almost broken, it seared his heart.

"I did, she is an exquisite little thing. So beautiful just like her mommy." Zyair slowly leaned in, pressing his wanton lips on her forehead in a warm soothing kiss. Transforming all of his love and affection to her.

Skyla instantly closed her eyes, letting herself bathe in this beautiful moment which was there. She had so longed for this, the tears slowly spilt out and she was bawling in no time.

Her body shook with tiny quacks, all the welled-up emotions came tumbling out. Her lower body ached with every hitch.

He gently took her in his arms taking extra care not to move her. Zyair simply sat beside her on the bed and slipped his arm underneath her head, remaining closer to her.

"Shh! It’s ok, you are safe now. Crying is no good in this situation," he lovingly murmured, his heartening words plus his comforting embrace cocooned her.

Skyla couldn’t move her body and her mind was still drug-induced but knew she was safe.

Letting her head rest on his warm chest, Skyla closed her eyes and hiccuped.

"I—I thought I w–would never see you again. The feeling of losing you and my baby was killing me slowly. Don’t leave me again, Zy." The hurt crawling in her voice and those tears soaking into his hospital gown made the immense pain wash over him in wave after wave.

"I will never leave you ever again. Not even for a day. I am so sorry, Sky for my carelessness. Forgive me, my love." His fingertips tenderly brushed her smooth face, a slight relief he felt seeing there were no bruises on her face but knew he would have to ask her the hard questions once she was better.

His lips rested on her hair, placing soft kisses on them, his fingers kept brushing them. Anything to calm her down and assure her she was safe. There was guilt branding her insides, she had kept a secret from Zyair and had paid immensely for it.

"I should have told you, it’s my fault..."

They were interrupted and Skyla couldn’t complete her sentence. A nurse had arrived holding their little bundle of joy in her hands.

Zyair wondered what Skyla was about to say but got distracted seeing their daughter. He gently laid Skyla back on the pillow and got up to receive her.

"Here she is. You people can officially meet and feed her. She is all yours." She happily extended their daughter towards Zyair, who watched with dumbfounded expressions as he collected her in his awaiting arms. His heart seemed to have been completed.

This was the missing piece of his heart and now with his wife and daughter beside him he felt so whole.
