Chapter 302: Required Blood
Zyair desperately paced the outside of the ER where his wife was battling a life-and-death situation. Doctors were trying to save both the mother and the child. He couldn’t help but stare again and again at his hands which were covered in her innocent blood.
His heart uncontrollably and miserably cramped inside his chest at the sight. His hands wouldn’t stop shaking.
Caleb had left to assist Lawrence and deal with the aftermath of what had happened at B-Couture. They had decided to keep quiet about Doran and let the police think he escaped. Zyair had requested them not to inform the police about it.
Zyair had given them a story and asked everyone to stick to it. The guard had agreed to stay quiet as well.
Meena, Huria and Rais arrived at the hospital at the same time and rushed to where Zyair was impatiently pacing.
"Oh! Heavens, how is she?" Meena desperately asked, tears shining in her eyes as she hugged her son, horrified to see how his white shirt and hands were soaked in blood. She knew it had to be Skyla’s.
"I don’t know, she was unconscious and bleeding too much. They are operating on her," his voice came out embroiled in pain. He just wished to slump on the floor and cry his heart out but he remained standing like a pillar of strength. He had to remain unwavering in this troubled time, for the sake of his wife and child.
"That bastard, tell me you got him Zyair. I am going to personally rip him apart," Huria raged from beside him as Rais held her tightly, knowing how emotional she was when it came down to Skyla.
Her fists were shut so tight that her fingernails were digging into the soft skin of her palm. Those soft brown eyes of hers were a maelstrom of fire and hatred.
"Kail has him and he has been shifted to a hidden location. We are not going to inform the police. I will deal with him." Zyair’s raging eyes slithered to Huria and she nodded in approval of his actions.
"Please! God save my Skyla and her baby," she whispered a prayer.
"She will make it and your child too." Rais clamped his hand on Zyair’s shoulder in reassurance. Knowing he needed it in that situation.
"Yes, I have seen the strength Skyla carries. She and the baby will pull through and all of us will be there for them." Meena gently rubbed Zyair’s back with her comforting hands.
A nurse came out of the operation theatre and they swarmed her like bees with Zyair in the forefront. Before Zyair could shower her with questions she raised her hand so they could listen to her first.
"Doctors are still operating on her and did the blood transfusion but we need more blood. Does anyone have an O+ blood type?"
"Yes, me. Is she out of danger?" Zyair instantly spoke up, his words rushed and ragged. His extremely disturbed eyes, not wavering from the nurse.
"Doctors are doing their best, come with me," she said and guided him along.
"Go, we are here. Save Skyla," Meena uttered in assurance while Huria and Rais nodded in unison.
They made their way towards the lab so his blood could be tested and collected if it matched.
Zyair followed her like a zombie, the circles under his eyes so prominent they were the same shade as his hair. With his bloodied white shirt that wrecked his heart every time he stared at it, he walked inside the lab.
The nurse made him take a seat, Zyair opened his cuff and rolled up his sleeve so she could take a blood sample. Rich crimson-shaded blood she extracted with a syringe from a prominent vein in his arm and collected it in a test tube.
She then tested it to check his blood type and repeated the process against Skyla’s blood to see if both blood types were compatible. Zyair waited with a rapidly beating heart for results. Their blood type was compatible as the nurse informed him in relief.
His heart toned down its rapid beatings seeing their blood matched. They were more similar to each other than he had anticipated. Now he hoped his blood would run in her veins and save her.
"Please! Lay down so I can take blood," Nurse asked and Zyair quickly did as was instructed. The time was of the essence.
One of the bulging veins in his arm was probed by the sharp syringe, she adjusted the cannula and his red elixir began to be collected in a blood bag.
His thoughts kept wavering to Skyla, seeing his ashen face and dimmed eyes, the nurse spoke. free𝑤ebnovel.com
"They had to do an emergency C-section because of the blood loss and the baby’s condition. But doctors are doing their best to save them both. Have trust in us." Zyair could only grimly nod at her. They were cutting open his wife, the mere thought was killing him like a slow poison spreading through his veins.
Meanwhile, the nurse had called ahead so someone could collect the blood as soon as she was done extracting it.
The blood bag had filled, and the nurse removed the cannula and sealed the bag. Another nurse boy had arrived to collect the blood so she handed it to him. He immediately ran off with it. Every second was precious at this stage.
Using a cotton swab she wiped his arm and placed a small bandage to stop the flow of blood.
"Keep laying down for five minutes and then you are good to go." The nurse tidied up behind her and discarded the used products.
But Zyair was already up, rolling his sleeve down and he walked out of there on hurried steps. The nurse kept calling him from behind.
"Wait! You will black out. Stay a few more minutes," she shouted from behind but he paid her no heed.
Reaching the place where he had left Meena and others, he discovered a doctor had joined them.
He dashed like a madman, diverting the doctor’s attention towards himself as he towered over the short-heighted doctor.
"My wife and child, how are they?" He hurriedly asked, his heart so restless in his chest as the worries marred his features. Zyair knew if the doctor was here then the operation was complete and only the news remained to be delivered.
Doctor sympathetically faced him and calmly began to speak so as not to startle him.
"Due to her fall, she lost amniotic fluids and the placenta had become detached from the uterus causing all the blood loss. We had to do an immediate C-section to deliver the baby. The heartbeat of the baby and mother were falling when we wheeled her in. But the quick response on your part and bringing them to the hospital on time saved the lives of both your wife and daughter."
Daughter. Did the doctor just say, daughter?
Meena and Huria let out small yelps of happiness as they clasped their mouths.
Seeing all kinds of emotions swirling on Zyair’s face and his eyes brimming with tears of joy which had turned him mute, the doctor spoke again. fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com
"They are not yet out of danger so we have kept them in intensive care. Your wife needs more blood. I think it has been arranged and the staff will transfuse it. You can see them after a few hours when their condition will stabilise. Congratulations." The doctor nodded at them with a professional smile. Seeing them all stare at her as if she was a Messiah, she couldn’t help but feel a slight pride in her heart.
"Thank you for your efforts. We appreciate it, you have saved their lives."
Meena showed her appreciation.
"You saved my friend’s life. Thanks a billion," Huria said in a shaky voice as she wiped her tears. The doctor smiled and walked away.
Zyair had his face in his hands trying not to cry. The emotions had him in a chokehold. Rais hugged him, seeing he desperately needed it.
"Congratulations on becoming a father," Rais gleefully said, thumping his back before letting him go so his mother could embrace him too.
"I have become a grandmother. Zyair, my son, you are the father of a little princess now." She wiped the tears of pure bliss that were flowing freely on her face.
"Yes! I can’t wait to hold them both in my arms. They will be fine? Right?" He asked in a desperate voice, wiping his own tears. It was a miracle that he was still standing.
"They will be. Skyla is the toughest girl I know and she has just made me a proud aunt," Huria excitedly chipped in, "Congratulations, on becoming a father and grandmother."
Huria warmly embraced Meena. They were still greeting each other when another nurse arrived and said.
"If you have brought baby clothes then hand them over. We will dress her up as soon as she is out of the incubator."
Meena had come prepared with Skyla’s pink baby bag with Anya’s picture on it. It was handed over to the nurse and they urgently waited to see them.
