Chapter 301: Blood Stained Hands
"You understand you won’t walk out of here alive if you dare hurt her by any means," Zyair retorted, his heart threatening to jump out of his constricted chest.
His extremely disturbed eyes did not budge from his scared wife. An understanding passed between them. Silently she blinked at him, the pain constructing a bridge between their hearts. The thought of their unborn baby was at the forefront of their thoughts.
Zyair’s hands were raised so Doran wouldn’t try anything stupid. He was capable of doing anything now, even shooting her.
"Let me go, Doran. If you have ever cared for me, then I request you to set me free," Skyla requested in a small voice while fearfully watching him over her shoulder, trying to find any traces of reason this man might have left.
He was using her to shield his own body so they wouldn’t shoot him, his left hand holding her in place while his right hand had the gun pressed to her temple. The cold nuzzle of the barrel against her skin was suffocating her. One-click and two lives would be lost.
"I can’t do that. You promised to stick by my side...," Doran didn’t finish when Zyair distracted him by calling out.
"Listen!" Doran’s annoyedly jerked his head in his direction, his attention diverting from Zyair.
Skyla knew this was her opportunity to escape. Putting as much force as she could in her elbow while in this condition, she jerked it backwards, landing it perfectly in his belly. All that training Zyair had done with her on how to escape if someone grabbed her from behind, came in handy. She knew it was a do-or-die situation, she had to take a chance.
His hold slightly loosened as he bent in pain from the impact and Skyla escaped his grip, adrenaline rushing through her but she had to be careful not to fall and injure her baby.
"Nooo," he screamed in agony and rage raising the gun but Kail took the perfect shot, now that Skyla was not in the way.
The bullet whizzed past everyone and grazed Doran’s hand, bloodying it. The gun slipped from it, falling to the ground with a cluttering sound. His loud anguished howls filled the warm night air, and blood spluttered from his injured hand, pooling on the ground.
"Skyla!" Zyair cried out and desperately rushed forward again to get to his wife. There was still a distance of a hundred feet between them. She was struggling with the contractions and she couldn’t run properly. Both of her hands were clutching her bulging stomach while her frantic eyes were on Zyair’s desperate ones.
Kail wanted to take another shot but Zyair was blocking his view now as he ran forward to get to his wife.
But Doran wasn’t done, like a wounded boar he lunged at Skyla who had only moved a few feet, Doran was nearer to her than Zyair was. His uninjured hand pushed her from behind and she flailed, her legs buckling and she landed hard on the rough surface, belly down. She tried but her hands were unable to break the fall on time.
Everything happened in slow motion for Zyair as he let out a rage-filled yowl and dived forward to get to her but he was two seconds too late. His arms were unable to reach his wife as he watched her go down in horror. His worst nightmare came true and his mind refused to register what he had just experienced.
Her gut-wrenching scream pierced the night air and it mingled with Zyair’s pained one. His whole world spun and darkened, the light disappeared and his brain solely focused on his screaming wife.
Several pairs of feet were rushing here and there but he didn’t care what was happening. He scrambled forward on all fours, getting to her he collected Skyla in his shaking arms.
"No, no, Sky. Please stay with me." Frantically like a man who had lost everything he brushed her auburn hair aside from her anguished face, pain etched on every inch of it. Her clothes were all wet from down under and now they were getting bloody.
"Zyyyy!" She whispered in a broken voice, a remnant of a faint smile had crept on her face. Her hand lifted to tenderly touch his devastated face, the tears had gathered in his sapphire-shaded eyes, ready to cry a river.
"Save—our c—child," she brokenly requested.
Her eyes drooped and her hand slid down from his face, falling to the floor. Her breathing became ragged. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com
"Noooo, noo." Zyair’s heart clenched so painfully as if someone was trying to yank it out of his chest. His head whirled in Doran’s direction, his eyes screaming fury and blood.
Doran was flat on the ground lying on his stomach with his arms stretched backwards as Kail had both his hands in a tight grip. His Glock 22 was pointed towards his temple while Doran’s gun had been confiscated by Caleb’s guard.
His face was pressed to the hard surface by Kail’s boot so he wouldn’t move but his calculating eyes found Zyair’s raging ones. If only he had laser vision, he would have burnt Doran alive in that instant, the hatred was raging in his very arteries, veins and capillaries.
"At least you won’t see the joy of having a baby. I told you if I can’t have her nor can you," he sneered, earning a kick in the face from Kail, he squeaked like a little girl as his lip split open and crimson liquid oozed out.
"Order me and I will empty the magazine in his stupid head," Kail asked his boss, the disgust apparent in his voice for the man on the ground as he kept pointing the gun at Doran’s head.
"Get him out of my sight, Kail. I need to get my wife to the hospital and will deal with him later. No one tells the police he is in my custody." Everyone nodded their heads in understanding as Zyair picked up Skyla in his arms and began to rush towards the car.
"I will drive, we need to get to the hospital as quickly as possible," Caleb called out from behind him, knowing Kail would have to take care of Doran before the police arrived. He instructed his guard to keep his mouth shut about Doran being captured.
Zyair’s head was spinning, his pained gaze wouldn’t waver from her beautiful face. His arm underneath her legs was sticking to Skyla’s clothes because of the blood and other fluids seeping out.
"Stay with me, we are getting to the hospital. Nothing will happen to you," Zyair frantically whispered, pressing his shaking lips to her cold forehead. His body convulsed in rage as he carefully got inside the car with her tucked safely in his arms. There was only one thought in his mind, to get her to the hospital.
From the way, Zyair called his mom and Rais, telling them to come to the hospital. He tentatively explained what had happened so they would be ready for any kind of news.
"Rais! Bring Huria and prepare her mind for Skyla is in bad shape," he brokenly informed his friend.
"Skyla will pull through, don’t worry we are coming," Rais tried to be calm and reassuring for he could sense how on the edge Zyair was.
Zyair ended the call and placed his hand on her belly. He tried to feel his child, all that blood oozing out of her had his heart dropping in a bottomless pit of despair.
"Hang in there!" Tears leaked out of his eyes, tears of his helplessness and despair.
Why wouldn’t fate let them have any peace?
What wrong did both of them ever do to anyone?
It took them five minutes to reach the hospital but for Zyair it took an eternity.
The car skidded to a stop, the brakes being stomped on hard and wheels screeching against the asphalt.
In a jiffy, Caleb got out of the car, running ahead of him to get a stretcher and doctors.
Zyair carefully carried her out while the emergency medics came running to take her from his arms and wheel her away.
His wounded heart refused to let her go but he knew he had to. Reluctantly he handed her over, hardly holding back tears.
They rushed inside and the female doctor met him halfway. freeweɓnovel.cѳm
"What happened?" Professional and curt, she quickly asked, trying to assess the situation as she picked up Skyla’s wrist and began to feel her pulse.
Zyair explained what had happened to her including how long her pregnancy was.
The doctor didn’t need anything further, she understood what had transpired. She began giving instructions as they rushed Skyla to the ER. Adjusting an oxygen mask on her face they closed the door behind them. Zyair was left there staring vacantly at the closed white door as it swung on its hinges for a few seconds before coming to a halt.
"I promise I will return all the pain you have given my wife, a hundred times over," he said with raw intensity in his eyes as they stared at his bloodstained hands. The blood of his wife had coated them and it made his own boilover.
