Chapter 307: Statement To The Police

"You are doing great, one more step. Just like that." Zyair carefully guided her as he held her left hand and waist. They were walking outside in the vestibule of the hospital. The doctor had instructed Skyla to take small walks so her muscles wouldn’t become stiff. Every muscle in her body seemed to be aching.

"Never thought walking would become such a challenge," Skyla confided to her husband as they slowly meandered outside and entered the small garden located right in front of the maternity ward.

Zyair helped her sit on the green-painted wooden bench.

The wind was slowly picking up some of the stray leaves that had fallen from the oak tree above. Announcing the slow transition of summer into autumn.

"We will keep on it daily and I will be there every step of the way. You don’t have to worry."

Zyair draped his arm gently around his wife and let her head rest on his broad shoulder.

"I want to go home, Arata will be more comfortable there too. Mom takes such good care of her." Meena loved spending time with her granddaughter and Skyla was utterly thankful for it.

"Soon, we can’t rush. You lost too much blood and I don’t want to take any risks. Just a few more days until the doctor discharges you." Zyair slowly intertwined his fingers with Skyla’s. The cannula was still attached to it. His thumb gently brushed the bruised skin of her hand while his heart ached to see her tarnished skin.

Purplish-yellow patches had formed around where they had inserted the catheter.

"Are we going to be okay? Zy. We are so broken. Can we be exemplary parents for our daughter? What if somehow we extended our insecurities to her?" Skyla asked while staring at the yellow leaves strewn around her feet. Zyair side-glanced at his wife and then smiled in understanding.

"No one can be perfect but both of us will never let the negativities we have faced transcend to our child. Together we will ensure to make her strong and feel loved. I can’t promise we won’t make mistakes, we are only humans at the end of the day. But I will always protect her with my life. So rest assured my pretty wife because you will be an extraordinary mother. I know it."

He placed a tender kiss on her ruby-shaded hair, hoping her heart would settle.

"There was something you wished to tell me the other day. What was it?" Zyair asked, remembering they were interrupted a few days ago and never got back to it. The rigidity of her body at his question told him this was not an easy topic and involved Doran. Slowly taking a deep breath she spoke, keeping her eyes lowered.

"He had been stalking me before marriage. I knew he had me followed and saw him in a pizza joint Huria and I went to. He was staring at me sitting in a corner but I hid the truth from you, worried about your reaction. We were about to get married and I just wanted to forget him. I am sorry, if I had just been truthful, measures would have been taken against him on time and none of us would have to go through this traumatic experience."

Zyair had to close his eyes for a second to keep himself calm. It would have definitely made him restrict her activities more and made him wary. But it wasn’t her fault, he should have taken stricter security measures anyway.

"I do wish you had informed me of it. He has been planning all this for a very long time but this is the last time he has hurt you, Skyla," Zyair seethed out, his voice low and dark.

"What are you going to do to him? Police don’t know that he is in your custody?" She fearfully asked, knowing Zyair had him locked up.

"Today, the police will be coming to take your statement. I would appreciate not mentioning that. Just tell them he pushed you and ran. You have no clue what happened next. As for the unfortunate three weeks, you had to spend in that hell hole. Absolutely no need to talk about it with the police if you are not comfortable. I will handle them. And to answer your question, he will never walk free or hurt anyone for that matter," he informed her with ironclad resolve, his hand gently rubbing her arm.

Now sitting there in his embrace which acted as her safety net she boldly told him.

"I will talk about that time with the police. I need to let go of this fear, it might never leave me but I have to try."

"And I will be there holding your hand on all these occasions. So fear not," he whispered in her hair, his eyes shining like two blue sapphires holding love and determination.

"I won’t as long as you are by my side. Losing you is my biggest fear now." Skyla took a deep inhale, brimming her lungs with his intoxicating oceanic scent.

"That won’t happen for a long time, my queen. We are stuck with each other now," he informed her with a chuckle.

"I don’t mind that actually, I crave it like a drug. You are my drug, Zyair Kincaid, my handsome husband." She lightly giggled and he could feel his world becoming brighter again.

"Can’t wait to ravish you with my mouth to show real appreciation on becoming a father," he mercilessly teased, scalding her cheeks and ears in the process with his warmth.

She hid away in his chest in embarrassment while he laughed in that deep rumbling voice of his. freewёbnoνel.com

Sitting there they revelled in the peace and harmony each other’s company brought them before heading back inside.

The police later came to collect Skyla’s statement. Meena took Arata out for a stroll so they could have privacy. and

Skyla told them everything Doran had done and said, leaving very little out. Zyair stood by Skyla’s side and held her hand which was shaking and had gone as cold as ice.

Now and then he assuringly and lovingly squeezed it. The question and answer session was by no means easy as she was reminded of those times when he had tried to intimately touch her. She was just glad he didn’t force himself on her in that condition.

"Any other places he might have mentioned where he could be laying low? Since he was trying to escape with you, he must have set up a place," The detective handling the case asked Skyla while taking notes.

"No, he didn’t mention anything in my presence," Skyla calmly answered and asked a question of her own.

"Did you find an elderly woman chained to the wall in that room?"

"Yes, we did. She is in pretty bad shape and is currently undergoing treatment. From what we have gathered she used to be his father’s mistress and had been missing for 13 years," he informed Zyair and Skyla. Zyair had heard about that woman briefly from Meena but was astounded that Doran had kept her like that for so long. freeweɓnovel.cøm

’Was it for revenge because she came in between his parents?’ Zyair wondered. As if to answer his unasked question Skyla spoke up.

"I am not sure if you know this but she sexually assaulted him as a child and is pretty much the reason he turned out the way he did. She is not some innocent woman irrespective of what he did to her for thirteen years. She confessed all this herself to me."

Skyla then went on to give them the details of the horror she had inflicted on Doran first. She wasn’t trying to defend him but Skyla didn’t wish any child to suffer like Doran had done and turn into a monster. Stricter laws against paedophiles meant a safer world for all children.

The detective and his partner were slightly surprised too but they jotted every detail down and said, "We will look into this further and keep this in mind when carrying out our investigations further."

"His secretary, Karen, was involved in the whole fiasco as well. I hope you people will capture her too. I am sure she had been the one keeping an eye on that woman when Doran went to prison. She occasionally visited in those three weeks while I was held in that room and would kick that woman and slap me."

Zyair’s eyes blazed at Skyla’s statement and he wondered what else his wife must have endured.

After they had all the details needed the detectives left. Zyair perched himself beside his wife with a bowl of rice. He was taking his duty of feeding her very seriously.

"You know how brave you are?" He revered her, but what Skyla had said was still on his mind.

"I am trying, you give me strength."

"That explains why he turned out the way he did. I can understand," Zyair uttered with a grim expression as he offered Skyla a spoonful of rice.

"I know, Zy. But it’s sad." Skyla accepted the rice and Zyair nodded at her.

Zyair and Doran were so similar in the way they were treated in their childhoods. And yet the traumas shaped both men so very differently.
