Chapter 197: The Room Of Hell

Amsilia and Madame Maven welcomed the girls with open arms. While Amsilia was overjoyed Madame Maven began to openly cry when she saw Skyla.

"My young Miss you are finally here." She embraced the girl in her chubby arms and whimpered in her chest. Her tears soaked Skyla’s dress. Skyla stroked her back trying to comfort the distressed woman.

"I am and I am happy. It’s good to see you, Madame Maven." Both of them separated and Skyla smiled. Maven wiped her tears with the back of her hand while guiding her in.

All of them stepped inside and seated themselves in the living room.

"Thank you for coming, Skyla. I know you didn’t have to but I am glad you did." Hands gracefully folded in her lap, Amsilia addressed her.

"It took a lot of willpower to do this," Skyla told her with a sigh.

Her eyes wandered around the place and she couldn’t help but be filled with despair. If only Doran had been normal, this life might have been very different, but he wasn’t.

"I understand, dear. But my support is always with you. He got what long-awaited him and I can only hope jail time humbles him. He has lost the company but he is still holding onto your father’s one," Amsilia said with lots of regret.

"Mr Zyair and I are going to try and buy it from him. I will never rest peacefully until I get it back." Skyla informed her with determination. She had been missing her parents a lot lately.

"Yes, we can’t let him keep it with fake papers. There must be something we can do," Huria chimed in.

"I will keep looking for the real papers, until now I have failed to locate them." Amsilia told them while getting up, "let’s talk over lunch."

The ladies walked over to the dining table and had lunch. Amsilia inquired about their jobs and they filled her in.

Skyla seemed happy, there was a glow about her now that Amsilia hadn’t seen before. A newfound air of confidence and self assurance too.

Amsilia’s guilt lessened a fraction seeing and knowing she had helped her and set her free. Zyair was indeed treating her right, she had seen it in the hospital as well today. The way he always looked at her with so much tenderness.

After lunch, Skyla decided to visit her old room.

"I can come with you," Huria informed her, seeing she was lost and had this disturbed look in her eyes now.

"No, I need to do this alone. Stay here, Huria."

Skyla stood up from her seat and straightened her dress. Taking confident steps she climbed up the stairs to reach the room which held so many torturous memories for her.

With a shaking hand, she reached for the cold door knob and twisted it, throwing the door open. It creaked open and revealed the room to her profoundly saddened eyes.

Skyla nervously took a step forward and then another, taking in what used to be their room. The room she loathed with all of her heart.

The bed had been made but it must have been a while since someone must have slept on it. Doran hardly used to sleep at home and there were only a few times when both of them shared this bed.

She used to sleep on the blue divan. Her eyes wandered to it and this feeling of helplessness coiled inside her like a poisonous snake, turning into rage.

She hated the damn thing, especially sleeping on it was torturous. Her back cursed her daily and the fact she wasn’t used to it, made it so much worse. Being the only child her parents had always pampered her with luxuries and shielded her from harsh realities of life.

Skyla now wished they had made her tougher. Although her parents always tried to keep her upbringing in a way that she would be kind and helpful to others, they didn’t prepare her to face the bitter realities of the world they lived in.

Skyla had an entire support system, now. A best friend who was with her every step of the way. A man who loved her more than anything. Her ex-mother-in-law, who didn’t let her suffer alone and filled the place of her mother. Meena and Lawrence too.

Yet her heart still became restless at times for the future was unpredictable and there was so much that could go wrong. With Doran still in the picture she knew she couldn’t breathe easy. freёwebnovel.com

She let out a deep breath of her pent-up frustration. Looking around she saw that some of her possessions were still in the room. One of her action figurines rested on the nightstand and she knew she had never placed it there. Doran hated them and he always made a fuss seeing them lying around so she always kept them in her drawers.

She had moved all of her stuff when their rooms were separated so why was it here? Skyla picked it up and placed it in her bag. Most of her luggage had been packed by Madame Maven. Whatever was left she packed it. She had decided to move in with Zyair, she no longer cared what the world thought. She was tired of being afraid and living in constant fear of what the world would think.

Skyla proceeded to open one of the bedside drawers and was left stunned. Their wedding picture lay inside, it had been framed in a simple black frame.

With a shaking hand, she plucked it out of the drawer and stared in disgust, especially at the man with piercing blue eyes that blankly stared back at her.

Why and when did he frame this picture and why keep it? He never cared about their marriage or thought of framing the picture before. So why now? When they were no longer married. Or did he do it before?

So many questions began to arise in her mind, leaving her more frustrated than ever.

She wished to scream at him and hurl the picture across the wall to shatter the glass, to tear it into millions of pieces and throw it into the cold harsh wind. To just forget they were ever bonded in a sacred bond which he disrespected and finally resulted in getting broken.

Yet she didn’t want to give him the satisfaction of knowing she saw it and it jagged her heart in the worst possible ways.

Shoving it back inside the drawer, she closed it with a bang. Throwing one last look at this room of hell, Skyla left it. It was becoming suffocating and she couldn’t breathe in there any longer. A panic attack was surfacing and she needs to be as far away from there as was possible for her.

She made her way downstairs and plastered a smile on her face. Not wishing to startle the others, she was stronger than this. All eyes were focused on her.

"I have sorted my stuff. Some I will take along while rest will be picked up soon. Thank you for letting me do this," Skyla told Amsilia with gratitude.

"It’s nothing. We will safely send all of your luggage." Amsilia’s assurance had her nodding.

"I will come live with you, my child, whenever you have your place. Madam Amsilia is alone for now so I am staying here with her," Madame Maven spoke in her warm voice, holding her hands.

"I will very much appreciate it. I will come pick you up." Skyla hugged her again and their hearts eased.

Huria handed over the keys of the car to Amsilia as Skyla turned to face her.

"Thank you for lending it to me when I needed it but I am going to buy myself a new one. I have my eyes set on a red convertible." Skyla informed her ex-mother-in-law with a wink and all three ladies beamed.

"Go get it, girl." Amsilia was all smiles for her.

Huria whooshed and thumped her back.

It was time to leave and say goodbye. But before they could do that. Madame Maven brought and handed a small pouch tied with a white ribbon to Skyla.

"What is it?" Skyla asked in astonishment, her eyes widening.

"Uh! It’s something I found on the floor in your room when you left. Remains of that pin, you always used to wear. Similar to the one you have in your hair now. You used to love it so I thought you might want it back."

Madame Maven’s words shook her and her eyes blurred from the sudden appearance of tears in them. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ

"Thank you!" She mumbled as she hugged the woman again and cried softly on her shoulder.

Amsilia and Huria watched her with moistened eyes as well.

Her first gift from him, she had gotten it back even if it was broken like her. It returned to its rightful place and she will always keep it close to her heart.
