Chapter 196: His Heart Is Big Enough

Skyla and Amsilia finally sat talking once Meena closed her eyes to rest a while. The older woman took Skyla’s hand in hers before requesting.

"Come home with me. I know it’s not a place you ever want to step in but you can sort your stuff, take it away and also meet Maven. She has been asking about you and would love to stay with you wherever you settle."

Amsilia was happy to see Skyla and wanted to take her along with herself. She immensely missed her daughter in law but was utterly content to see how radiant she seemed.

Skyla squeezed her hands and said with her signature smile.

"I will visit in the evening. I do need to sort my stuff and return your car. Thank you for everything you did for me."

Amsilia just shook her head and answered.

"It was what any decent human being would do." Both of them hugged and Amsilia stood up, "I have to go now but will be waiting for you." Skyla walked her out while Zyair returned with breakfast and coffee for Skyla.

Meena was resting after eating and taking her medicine. The doctors had said she could go home that evening but needed a lot of rest.

When Skyla returned to the room Zyair was sitting in the wooden chair, looking extremely tired.

"Hey! I brought you something. Eat up, you must be hungry," he told her in a sleepy voice, his eyes swollen and red.

"Did you eat?" Skyla asked, stepping closer to him.

"I did," his voice was so low now.

"Sleep a bit, you are too tired. I am awake." Skyla extended her hand and brushed away the tuft of his smooth hair from his forehead. Bending down she placed a chaste kiss there and he groaned in comfort her action provided.

His eyes instantly closed.

"Thank you!" He whispered so slowly before drifting off.

He had been dead tired after remaining awake and worried the whole night long.

Skyla slowly smiled seeing him sleep like that on the chair, so she picked up the extra blanket and quietly covered him with it. His forehead still had slight ridges, telling her he was still tense. She hadn’t gotten a chance to speak to him.

She caressed his forehead with her thumb and they instantly disappeared. A smile of satisfaction was quick to curl her lips.

Skyla ate the breakfast he had brought for her and sipped the coffee. She settled in the chair next to him and busied herself with her phone. His head softly rested on her shoulder.

After an hour or so Zyair opened his sleepy eyes and straightened up, blinking rapidly.

"Hey! You are awake, let me get you some water." Skyla tried to get up and move away towards the table which held a water bottle. His hand reached out and caught her wrist.

"Stay with me," he said with such need that Skyla got tensed, her forehead wrinkled and she instantly sat down.

"What is it? You look worried," she desperately asked, intertwining her fingers with his.

Zyair’s eyes wavered to his mother who was soundly sleeping under the effect of the drugs and then returned to Skyla. Still, he kept his voice low when he spoke to her.

"Can I ask you something? Please be truthful with me." The desperation in his voice was making her anxious by the second.

"I will, tell me what’s wrong?" Her thumb slowly caressed the back of his hand. The slow movement ebbed away some of his tension.

"Would it anger you if sometimes I have to leave everything and go take care of my mother? Like I did yesterday. I know we talked earlier but the thought that my mother didn’t even inform me about her illness just because she didn’t want to ruin my personal trip is ripping me apart."

He anxiously revealed, searching her eyes for her answer to be. She quietly took his hand in hers and placed it in her lap, keeping her delicate fingers intertwined with his.

"Mothers are precious, Zyair. How I wish mine was alive and your biological one was not the way she was. You are lucky to have Mrs Kincaid. I will never get angry at you for taking care of your mother like I told you in Falcon City as well. We will do everything together and she should always be your priority."

Her words relieved so much tension from his agitated heart. Any other woman would have wanted him all to herself, not understanding what it meant to him having a mother’s love.

But she was not any woman, she was his woman who had begun to understand him inside and out. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com

"I wish I could kiss you like a lunatic right now. You make me so happy, Sky and you don’t even know how perfect you are." He pulled their intertwined hands towards his covered lips and placed a tender kiss on the back of her hand.

"Thank you for being so understanding. I can’t love you enough..." His voice trailed off, he was so emotional. freēwēbnovel.com

"You do, Zyair. You love me more than enough. I am just returning a fraction of it and I will never fight you over the affection of your mother. Your heart is big enough for both of us."

Skyla smiled with all the love she held for this man and reached out with her free hand to ruffle his hair. Her cute actions finally made him smile which reflected in his azure eyes.

They were lost in staring at each other when the door knocked and they had to let go of their hands and step away.

It was the on-duty doctor and the nurse. They came inside to have a final checkup on Meena; who woke up from the commotion.

"She no longer has a temperature and we are satisfied with her test results. You can go home now Mrs Kincaid but have to take the medicine I am prescribing for a week." The doctor instructed while closing the file which contained her report.

"I will do that," Meena weekly answered.

She was discharged. Zyair thanked the doctor and the nurse for their diligent care before they exited the room.

Zyair and Skyla packed up the stuff.

"Take care, Mrs. Kincaid. I will come visit you soon." Skyla hugged the older woman and they bid goodbye to each other.

"I will wait. Don’t be a stranger, that home is yours too," Meena answered as Zyair helped her up.

Zyair took his mother home, he wanted to take care of her and spend some quality time with her too.

Skyla had called Huria to come pick her up so she could visit Amsilia and sort her stuff. So both of them went their separate ways for now.

Huria had brought Amsilia’s car because Skyla wanted to return it. She sat with her hands in her lap fidgeting with them. Her right leg was restless too. Her best friend was noticing her as she drove.

"He is not there. Don’t be nervous, he can’t hurt you anymore," Huria said while speeding up the car a bit and turning her eyes back on the road.

"I know, my body doesn’t agree. I am not sure if I will ever be normal again or if this anxiety will be my permanent companion." Skyla heavily sighed and her shoulder stooped in defeat.

"Give it time, Sky. It will lessen if not completely disappear but will certainly reduce. And you, my girl, are facing it like a queen. I can’t be more proud." Huria comforted her but deep down in her heart, Skyla knew she wasn’t done with her ex-husband.

He wouldn’t give her up that easily. The look of obsessiveness he always gave her must have turned into madness by now. Skyla feared the time when he would be released from jail. The mere thought sent chills through her body which seeped into her bones and froze her bone marrow.

She dared run from him and she dreaded if the time would ever come where he would catch her. Skyla prayed that day would never come and she wanted to enjoy the freedom she had while he was locked away.

"What if he comes for me, Huria?" Skyla voiced the concern that were eating her raw.

"Don’t forget you have a restraining order against him. Police will arrest him if he does plus you have me and Mr Zyair. Plus Kail is always with you. There is nothing to worry about. We will handle him," Huria tried to ease her fears.

Skyla nodded with a forced smile.

"We are here," Huria announced, stopping the car outside the stony villa which used to be Skyla’s house but always seemed more like a prison than a home.

Both of them alighted the car, closing the doors behind them and Skyla lifted her head and cast a dreary look at the place again. Deep inside her heart, she didn’t want to be here and she told herself it would be the last time she was doing it.
