Chapter 198: Followed
(One Month Later)
A shiny red convertible stopped outside the cemetery. The driver’s door opened and Skyla stepped out of it with two black roses in her hand. A simple black ankle length dress adorned her healthy looking body.
She quietly walked inside, it was still early in the morning and she had decided to stop by before heading over to the office.
Making her way to where her parents eternally rested she was astonished to see the graves covered in tiny pink petals. The cherry blossom tree nearby had shared its beautiful flowers with them.
It was springtime, the season of happiness, joy, and colour. The season of flowers, new life and rebirths. The season of rejuvenation.
Her heart ached as she approached the two tombstones. Bending down she placed the flowers on their graves. fгeewebnovёl.com
Slowly Skyla kneeled alongside her father’s grave and placed her hand on it. So many emotions stirred inside of her and she couldn’t hold back the tears threatening to spill out.
"Sorry Dad, I failed you. I couldn’t keep my promises to you. I haven’t been able to get the company back nor I could keep my marriage," she lamented, her hand lovingly rubbing the soil on the top of his grave. Tears spilled down and fell on the soil, mingling with it.
How she wished he was alive and she wouldn’t have to go through all these painful experiences. He would have never let her get abused like that.
"But I couldn’t go through more abuse. I reached my tipping point. And now I am in a better place. I know you mom will understand. I will try to get the company back with the help of Zyair."
She paused, sniffled, blinked away further tears that were clouding her vision and then continued talking to her parents.
"I have to tell you about Zyair. He has appeared like this bright light in my life and liberated me. Mom, he indeed is the one-winged angel. That one winged angel necklace, the one I gave away to a boy. It’s him, mom. I helped him once and he has returned it ten-folds.
He has rescued me and gave me a reason to smile again, believe in myself again. And I am not letting him go. I want to spend my life with him. He is the best thing to have happened to me in a long time. I wish you people could have met him. I can’t express in words how much I love and respect him."
A sad and yet satisfied smile spread on her lips amidst her tears. She knew if her parents could hear her then they would be at least content knowing their daughter was moving forward and facing the world.
"Doran is in jail but he will soon be released and truth be told I am dreading the moment he will be out. I wish he could forever rot in there. But I have to be strong and face him whenever the time comes, although I wish that time never does."
Skyla stayed there for a while unburdening her heart, telling them everything she had been through. When her heart had eased down she got up and sadly smiled.
Finally, it was time to leave now that she had visited them and offloaded her worries.
Her eyes lingered on their graves for a few minutes. She wiped her tears with the back of her hand and began to walk back to her new car. There was no one around due to morning time.
Settling inside Skyla started her car and headed to her office. A black car was waiting to trail her. Someone from inside snapped a few pictures of her and kept behind her. Skyla instantly noticed because her senses always remained on high alert. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm
It disturbed her mental peace and made her anxious. She had seen a similar car before a few times parked some blocks away from Huria’s house. She sped up and zigzagged through the traffic. Her fearful eyes watched the car from her rearview window. It kept a substantial distance so she could not see who was driving.
She tried to shake the car off but it remained behind her. Her heartbeat alleviated and she began to profusely sweat. No matter what she did, her heart wouldn’t ease.
"Focus Skyla, it will be alright. Don’t panic, just get to the office."
Getting closer to her office, the black car suddenly sped up and zinged past her at an enormous speed. Skyla instantly swerved right so not to collide with the car as it sped away, leaving Skyla horrified. She mentally noted the car model and number though.
"What the hell?" She yelled in anger but the car was gone.
Quickly she entered the underground parking lot of her company and informed the guards about the car. She also gave them the number. They calmed her down and told her they wouldn’t let anyone enter here and inform the police about the car.
Parking her car with shaking hands, she exited it and made her way to the elevator, still looking above her shoulder. Her legs had numbed and she could hardly walk as she staggered to the elevator and used her handprint to enter it.
As soon as she reached the top, the elevator dinged and doors slid open, Skyla rushed out. Anxiety gripping her every limb.
She hurried on her small heels as they clocked on the floor. Her handbag flew behind her as her feet took her to his office. She pushed Zyair’s office door open and entered in a flurry.
He was bent over some paperwork but his head whipped in her direction at the sudden intrusion. One look at her face had him jumping out of his seat and rushing to her in panic. His pen dropped on the floor.
They met midway and he tightly tucked her in his safe embrace. She was literally shaking as she clung to him.
"What’s wrong? Sky?" He anxiously asked, rubbing her back rapidly.
She didn’t speak for a few excruciatingly long seconds. Letting his embrace lull her into calmness and steady her agitated heart.
"Zyair! Someone was following me and tried to run me over. I was so scared," she finally blurted out in a ragged breath, her eyes were still blown wide in shock. The veins in Zyair’s temple ticked in the anger that surged through him but he kept it bay.
"Come here, let’s sit down and then tell me exactly what happened." Zyair’s heart clenched in the worst possible way but he kept his repose. With his arms tightly wrapped around her he led her to the lounger and both of them settled down.
Her breathing had normalised but Zyair still kept his hand on her back and her head on his chest as she slowly began to tell him the details of her morning. He knew she would be visiting her parents today so he had given her some privacy and held Kail back but now he was realising it was a mistake.
"Probably some paparazzi or media person who wanted to get gossip for their column and just wanted to get away before you could tell the guards or the police." Zyair tried to calm her down so she wouldn’t be too worried. But inside he knew, it most probably was Doran’s handiwork. Even from jail he was getting his dirty work done by someone.
"I have seen it before too and to follow me to the graveyard and then all the way back to the company. What if it’s him having someone follow me," she voiced her concerns, clutching the front of his black shirt and he couldn’t even tell her that he was thinking along the same lines.
Zyair tensed at the mention of that man from her mouth. The one man he wished to erase from her life forever. If he could carry out an assassination attack on Zyair he could surely have Skyla followed just for the sake of making her afraid.
"I will deal with it. Today you will go home with me. My mom’s place is comparatively safe as well, no outsiders are allowed there. We can stay there for a few days if you wish. Until I sort this out. And no more going alone, please. Kail will take you everywhere when I am not available."
A tender kiss he placed on her head and kept her close to him, rubbing her arm in comfort. Letting his comforting scent calm her down.
His own mind was racing as he weaved scenario after scenarios on the best course of action. If only they could live together and she would be in front of him and he would always ensure she was safe. She could have been seriously injured today, and he would never forgive himself if she had been hurt while under his care.
Skyla slightly lifted her head and locked her gaze with his tensed one before whispering.
"I want to stay with you, Zyair. Can we forget the consequences and live together? Because believe me, I don’t care anymore."
