Chapter 179: Caleb’s Apology

Skyla was slightly confused, he had made her temporary head of the Anime department during the Halloween event, she wasn’t sure what he had been planning while she wasn’t there.

"From today onwards Miss Skyla will be the official head of the Anime Department. Every decision will go through her, every project will need her approval, and whatever you people need a signature on it will be done by her. Her word will be final."

Zyair conclusively announced, his eyes wavering on the team seeing if anyone held any objection. But they all seemed joyous at this announcement, they had worked under her and she was amazing at it.

Skyla on the other hand was slightly speechless. He didn’t tell her on purpose and sprung it on her so she wouldn’t say no. Slowly he was giving her more responsibility. Making her stand on her feet and not be dependent on anyone, not even him.

A wry smirk played on his covered lips seeing her bewildered.

"Congratulations!"

"Great news!"

"Well done!"

Excited chants followed his words as the whole team got up and shook hands with her. Mawar hugged her with a beaming face.

Once the congratulations passed, Skyla cleared her throat and addressed them.

"Thank you, everyone, for all the love and considering me capable enough for this position. I will try to fulfil it to the best of my knowledge and under the guidance of Mr Zyair and all of you as my fellow companions. We will take this department to new heights."

Lawrence and Erdith appreciatively nodded at her while Zyair was keenly observing her. She had spoken without any indecision. She was ready for this.

More discussions followed as Zyair explained how they would be merging B-Couture into their company and their further collaboration with B & J’s. Exactly the reason why Erdith was there.

The meeting extended for a few hours until Zyair and Skyla were called away because the representatives of B-Couture had arrived and all the terms and legal procedures were supposed to take place.

"I am always here if you need someone to talk to." Erdith pressed Skyla’s hands before she could leave.

"I know, so thank you very much," Skyla answered. Erdith’s eyes lingered on the hairpin she had created on Zyair’s order as it rested stylishly in Skyla’s hair. She smiled but didn’t say anything about it.

Zyair, Skyla and Lawrence left the Anime Conference room after that and proceeded to meet the team from B-Couture.

Along with their senior managers, Caleb was the one leading the small entourage that had come to meet them.

As the trio entered the conference room where they had been waiting Caleb’s guilty eyes sought Skyla out. The shame he felt was so prominent in his eyes.

Skyla had no hostility for him though. He had always been kind to her so she politely nodded at him.

The men were slightly fidgety seeing Skyla, everyone knew what had gone down but they kept their mouths shut and their thoughts to themselves.

After the handshakes and formalities, they sat down to business.

"Gentlemen, please be seated and let’s begin."

Zyair instructed in a firm but friendly voice. He didn’t want to give them the impression that he was hostile. He needed them to run the company and will only be replacing Doran.

Skyla had her tablet out and was typing down the crucial points and observed how expertly Zyair handled the whole deal.

He was overly calm like he usually was and there was not a hint of pride or condescension in his voice. He would never punish the innocent for the blunders of their head.

Caleb was appointed the temporary vice head and he would be taking direct orders from Zyair.

Skyla knew she shouldn’t be feeling this tinge of satisfaction seeing Doran lose his father’s company but she did. After everything Zyair did to help him out, he repaid him like this.

Little did she know that Zyair was also responsible for taking his company to the brink of bankruptcy. He had meticulously planned to bring him down in the past eight years.

The meeting extended way past the lunch hour so Zyair asked them to stay for lunch.

The men walked out guided by Lawrence but Caleb lingered. As Skyla was about to follow in pursuit, Caleb nervously called her out.

"Skyla! I was wondering if we could talk."

Zyair and Skyla both paused in their steps. freēwēbnovel.com

"About?" Zyair cocked his eyebrows at him while protectively standing in front of Skyla.

"Can I speak with her alone?" Reluctance in Caleb’s voice was foretelling his unease.

"No, say what you want to say in front of me." Zyair was undeterred and unmoved. Skyla could sense the tension rising making her anxiety peak. She awkwardly stared from one man to the other not knowing what to say.

Caleb desperately watched Skyla but Zyair’s stance told him he wouldn’t get to talk to her alone. He sighed, his body deflating like a balloon in defeat as he began to speak.

"I just wanted to apologise that I ignored the signs all these years and never put two and two together to figure out what he was doing. I am extremely ashamed and under no circumstances approve of his behaviour. He and I, we are done."

Skyla knew that Caleb had no clue about Doran’s doings for he was always a picture-perfect husband in front of others. She put away her work tablet and passed him a tiny smile of hope.

"I don’t blame you, Caleb. You were always good to me and going forward I am hoping we could continue to build on this relationship of mutual respect. Doran was my past and I have buried him. I only want to move forward from here onwards now."

Caleb appreciatively nodded his head with his lips tightened while Zyair’s scrutinised eyes scanned him.

"That’s what I want too. I hope there is no rift between us."

"There isn’t, rest assured Caleb," Skyla concluded with a warm smile which Caleb returned.

Zyair and Skyla returned to Zyair’s office after and once they were behind the closed door Zyair had her resting in his lap with his nose buried deep in her neck.

"Did that man ever trouble you?" He questioned, wrapping his arms around her waist.

"No, he is a kind man." She leaned into him.

"Good or I would destroy him too."

"Relax, my guardian angel," she teased with a laugh, making him groan.

"Can I ask you a question?" She continued.

"Always." His lips were on her nape now slowly kissing her.

"Why did you make me the permanent head of the Anime Department?"

"Because you earned it. That department is solely yours," he informed her in a composed voice.

"Any other reason? Be truthful, Zyair," Skyla knew deep down there was more to this decision. She turned to gaze into his mysterious blue eyes, trying to unravel the secret that he carried.

"Hmm, because it’s rightfully yours Skyla. I invested most of the money you gave me in this company. The Anime Department was wholly set up with that. It’s only fair it’s headed by you."

He adoringly smiled at her and Skyla’s heart fluttered at his words as a satisfactory smile erupted on her lips too.

"Thank you, Zy," she said and rested her lips on his so they could consume each other’s hungry lips again.
