Chapter 141: New Order

"My innocent Lily! It’s not a pretty tale and you have enough on your plate right now. I will tell you some other time," he placed his hands on hers and quietly informed her, his voice edged on excruciating pain he felt deep in his heart.

Skyla scoured his eyes and all she found was agony, so she didn’t push any further.

"Promise that you will tell me someday," she asked in a whisper.

She knew his life had been far from a bed of roses. She didn’t know the extent of it though and what had been done to him. The reason he was so adamant about helping her and all those who were stuck.

It was strange the moment his life changed hers took a nosedive. As if fate had been playing some cruel game with them.

"I promise." He gently took the pendant from her hand and placed it around her neck. The angel with one wing hung down and rested near her heart.

"Keep it with you until you are free to come to me," he asked in that deeply raspy voice. Entwining his graceful hands around her waist and hitching her up before settling her cosily into his lap.

"I will." Her pupils enlarged at his action but she didn’t escape his hold.

The thought of freedom was so alluring now that she knew it was just around the corner.

No more beatings, no more degradation.

Just freedom and pure bliss.

Her head rolled on his shoulder as they sat in complete silence and yet so meaningful for both of them. Her hand clutched her pendant.

Zyair stayed until she fell asleep in his arms. The will to leave her was nil to negative and yet he had to. The goal was near and he couldn’t mess this up.

Once the news spreads of her divorce both of them will come under scrutiny and the media will be all over them trying to get any gossip. He wouldn’t be able to see her.

Sighing deeply with his heart hurting as if being skewered, Zyair gently laid her down on the bed. Her hand was fisting his black turtleneck from the front and he had to use quite an amount of resolve to pry open her slim fingers and set the fabric free.

She slept like an angel, pure and innocent, oblivious of the effect she had on him.

Picking up Cuddles he turned the teddy bear towards him.

"You take care of her and keep her company in my absence. Be a good boy," he told him grimly and then facepalmed himself.

What was he doing talking to a stuffed toy?

He delicately placed it in her arms and she cuddled with him even in her sleepy state. A smile spread on her lips which in turn made him smile too. Covering her with a blanket he let her sleep.

Stroking her hair one last time he kissed her fiery head and then left, softly closing the door behind him.

Huria was in the kitchen when he exited the room.

"Is she sleeping?" She called out while trying to cook. He stepped closer.

"Yes, I would be leaving now. Take care of her and if there is any problem, let me know. I will be posting my guard outside but he will remain discreet. Just a precaution in case that bastard tried something funny."

He informed Huria while heading towards the outside door.

"Sure thing, please stay for dinner," she requested, exiting the kitchen with a wooden spatula in her hand.

"No, I should leave now. Good night Miss Huria," he respectfully stated and left.

His chauffeur Ramiro took him home. On the way, he made several calls.

One was to Erdith. Once she picked up, Zyair asked.

"How are you, Miss Erdith? I hope I am not disturbing you."

"Hello! Mr Zyair and not at all. How may I help you?" She respectfully asked.

"You remember that Kakashi hairpin I bought from you?"

"Yes, I do," she answered.

"I would need a similar one but I need rubies and sapphires in it. The design must be unique and nothing like that should exist or made after this particular one. Can that be done? I will bear the whole expenses."

His request made her wonder but she was a professional businesswoman and she would never ask unnecessary questions. ƒreewebɳovel.com

"Absolutely, I will design some right away and will send them over for you to choose one of your liking."

"I will be waiting, Miss Erdith and I would like this to remain between the two of us. I trust you, don’t break my trust," the calm voice still held that steely edge to it telling her to never cross this man. She answered.

"My first fundamental is to build trust. I would never even think about it."

"Thank you, good night Miss Erdith."

The call ended.

Zyair went to his mother’s home after that. He needed to confide in her, after all, she was friends with that demon’s mother.

"Mom! I am home," he announced as usual stepping inside the foyer.

Meena called from the living room.

"I am here, my boy." He made his way to her and greeted her right before slumping down on the sofa and leaning rearward, placing his head on the sofa back.

"How was your day?" She asked with concern seeping into her voice.

"Strange, stressful, eye-opening," he cryptically answered and she stared at him in worry.

"What’s wrong? Zyair. Should I get you some water?"

"No, I am good. I just want to talk to you." He raked his raven hair back in frustration.

"I am listening." Meena focused all her attention on her tired-looking son.

"Did you speak to Mrs Blackthorn recently?"

"No, why?" Meena asked in a concerned voice. Zyair then told her everything that had happened related to Skyla and how he was going to help her.

So many emotions flowed on Meena’s face from horror to anger. What kind of man was he who kept hurting his wife?

"How horrible, I hope she is rid of such a man soon."

"I am telling you all this because once Skyla’s divorce is finalised she will be living with me in my apartment. I don’t want to burden you and we will need some time to get to know each other."

He had decided what Meena was afraid of. Doran seemed like an obsessive kind of person and it could land her only son in trouble. Zyair had an extremely kind heart and she didn’t want anyone to misuse it.

"Has Skyla told you about her decision? Don’t forget she will be coming out of a very abusive relationship. Give her some time. Living together so quickly will only cause problems, especially for her. This society will not let her live. A woman is always blamed more than a man."

Meena offered her advice. She didn’t want Skyla or her son to suffer and wanted the best for them.

"I know but I want her by my side as soon as possible," he impatiently answered. His eyes saddened deeply. Meena leaned slightly close to him but stayed out of his personal space.

"Zyair, you are sensible my boy. You understand how a society can ostracize someone. I know you respect her very much and will not do anything that will affect her reputation," the wise woman amiably explained to her son.

"Nine years, I have waited for her. At times thinking maybe she was happy but she was not. The things I have seen today and heard her say have broken me entirely. I don’t want to be apart from her even for a second. I don’t think I will leave that asshole alive if he ever tried to touch her. All my control has been lost," he lamented.

Taking his head in his hands, he shook it, leaving Meena speechless. She only hoped that Zyair wouldn’t get hasty or impulsive and give this decision more thought.
