Chapter 133: The Ugly Hurting Truth

A strong pair of arms pulled her inside and taut against his chest as he shut the door with a bang.

"I got you. Are you hurt?" His desperate voice asked. Firstly he wanted to ensure that she wasn’t hurt. That’s all that was running through his mind when he saw her at his doorstep, holding a torn teddy bear.

"Not physically, emotionally I am a wreck," she sniffled in his chest, making him tighten his arms around her. So many different emotions were stirring through him like being churned in a large cauldron. She was finally here and her words had shaken him to his core.

"I have got you, Skyla, and this time I am not letting you go." Zyair pressed his face into her dishevelled hair. His temper was rising by the second at the thought of one despicable man. The man who wasn’t letting them have an ounce of peace.

He held her against his heat and warmth until she stopped shuddering and her sobs eased down.

"Come, let’s sit and talk." He gently guided her inside the living room and helped her settle on the sofa. She was shivering uncontrollably.

Taking her bag he placed it aside and fetched her a glass of water. She chugged it down and handed it back. Placing it on the table Zyair sat down beside her.

She shuffled near to him, placing her head on his broad shoulder. His arm gently nestled her close to him by the waist.

"Talk to me, Sky. What did that jerk do this time?" He gently asked but his jaw was set tight and there was nothing calm inside of him. It was a brutal hurricane which wanted to wreck whoever dared harm her.

"He broke my pin, Zyair. He ripped my teddy bear. I will never forgive him," she told him in a sad but firm voice, fisting the front of his shirt.

He could sense this wave of hatred passing through her.

She was sad but she didn’t seem so fragile like she usually did. There was this determination in her voice he had never sensed before.

"I will buy you new ones." Zyair patted her head as if giving assurance to a child when their toy got broken.

"I don’t want new ones, look what he did?" She showed him her torn teddy bear. His head was tilted to one side and cotton was jutting out of his neck. Her lips wobbled and her hands shook as she tried to fix his head back on.

Zyair carefully took Cuddles from her seeing how she was struggling to keep her emotions in check.

"I will fix this for you. Cuddles will be restored to his previous glory. I promise you, don’t cry."

His long fingers wiped away the last of her tears and she stared at him with her huge, teary eyes before nodding.

"Tell me everything that happened, Skyla. No more secrets from me because you are never going back to him."

He declared staking his claim, arresting her innocent face in his large hands. So she could look at him and him alone. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ

Skyla told him everything that Doran had said today. She also told him about his motive behind letting her do this job and the way he kept pestering and blackmailing her to get information about Zyair. Telling her that he would harm and destroy him. But she didn’t tell him that Doran used violence against her when she didn’t obey.

"I–I promise that I didn’t tell him anything or pass down any sensitive information or data. I never tried to peek at your face or tried to capture a picture." Zyair’s thumb moved and rested on her tender lips telling her to relax.

"Skyla! I believe you and I have always trusted you. You don’t have to explain yourself," he calmly told her, his oceanic blues holding promises of what he would do to that asshole.

But Zyair was not an idiot to not know that Doran must have hurt her immensely when she refused to oblige or stalled for so long. This must have been one of the reasons why she said they couldn’t be together.

"Just tell me something very truthfully. Did he ever hurt you because of any of these reasons?" He nervously asked, fearing the answer she would give. How was he going to forgive himself if she had been hurt because of him?

She blinked at him, very very solemnly. But her lips refused to move to answer him. A feeling of discomfort he could sense on her face and his worst fears began to come true.

"I would like a truthful answer to this question, please," he repeated himself with a dire urgency, scouring her eyes for truth. She lowered them, trying to hide whatever emotion was birthing there. She didn’t want him to ride the guilt train on her pretext. Knowing him she knew he would never forgive himself.

"It was nothing much. He was slightly furious but..."

"You are lying to me. Don’t do that. Just tell me the truth." He tilted her head up with the slow pressure on her chin so she could gape at his deeply disturbed eyes.

How was she to tell him?

A small tear leaked from the side of her eye and buried itself in his hand.

"He hurt you badly? Isn’t it?" And then it dawned on Zyair. That kidnapping fiasco. There was no kidnapping, that was all him. That’s the reason he called him specifically and informed him. He was taunting him in a way Zyair didn’t even see.

It was like Skyla had given him an electric shock of 10,000 volts. He staggered back from her, letting her face go. His eyes widened to mammoth proportions as the truth sunk in like a poisonous icicle—piercing deep into his heart and soul, spreading the poison in his whole body, paralyzing him.

He took his face into his hands and rubbed in frustration. An anguished yowl escaped him as he turned himself away from her and stood up.

She had gotten hurt because of him. She had faced his torture just to keep his identity and his secrets safe and in return, he couldn’t even protect her.

Today Zyair was extremely ashamed, he had never been so ashamed of himself.

Skyla tearfully watched his back as he battled his demons.

"It wasn’t your fault," she meekly told him in a teary voice.

"It is, don’t try and expunge me of guilt Skyla. How could I be so blind to not realise? You should have told me and I would have taken care of him by now. It’s all my fault."

The extreme pain in his breaking voice broke Skyla all over again. She gathered herself and got up. Going over to him she placed her hand on his toned shoulder and gently squeezed.

"Don’t blame yourself, if anyone is to be blamed it’s Doran."

The tension and guilt was rippling through his whole body and words choked in his throat unable to come out. So Skyla softly spoke again.

"Didn’t you say I was your guardian angel? It’s not only your duty to protect me, it was mine too. No way was I going to let him hurt you or will do in future as well."

Her words made him sharply turn and capture her in his arms. His moist eyes took in this courageous girl who never failed to amaze him. How many times would she save him?

"Skyla! You don’t have to protect me from such fiends. I can handle them. Promise me you won’t put yourself in harm’s way ever again. I won’t be able to live with myself if something is to happen to you."

His head dipped and his forehead connected with hers in a desperate attempt to feel closer to her to just remove the pain.

"I am sorry for the hurt he caused you because of me. I promise I will make him pay."
