Chapter 129: Meena Knows The Truth

"Oh! You didn’t have to, Mrs Kincaid. This is too much." Skyla didn’t know what to do or say.

"Don’t be a stranger Skyla. I hope this is only the first of many meetings we will have. Plus it’s not like every day I see my son talking to the opposite gender." She smiled and touched Skyla’s arm in her elderly affection.

"Accept them, Miss Skyla. I hope they will be according to your taste. I promised you a reward for such a well-organised event. Consider it that."

He spoke with such warm affection without batting an eye. Meena had always observed that he kept an emotionless, dominant tone whenever he spoke to a female so they wouldn’t get any funny ideas.

This was something she wasn’t used to hearing her son use the tone except when he spoke to her. She was quite baffled but remained silent.

"Thank you!" She accepted them with a shy smile.

"I will bring her along to visit the boutique someday too. Thank you for having us and the delicious food." Amsilia hugged her friend as they bid farewell to each other.

She then turned to Zyair and her expression turned solemn. This was too much for a mother’s heart but she needed to do right by Skyla. She was innocent and didn’t deserve the way her son kept treating her.

"Mr Zyair, I appreciate what you did for Skyla. Doran is my son but I am ashamed of him. I would like to apologise on his behalf."

Her words were followed by a resounding silence. Meena was confused, Skyla had no clue how to react, she didn’t want Amsilia to apologise for what Doran did while Zyair intently watched her.

"Mrs Blackthorn, the only person who should be apologising is your son and not to me but to Miss Skyla. I let him go that day but if he even hurt a hair on her head again I will show him no mercy," he answered her in a very clear tone.

Amsilia nodded her head in understanding but Meena was left horrified at the words of her son.

"I understand." She then turned to her friend and said, "I will fill you in later, Meena."

"Ok, I will wait." Meena reassuringly pressed her friend’s hand, letting her know it would be alright.

Skyla discreetly peeked at him and he was watching her with wanton eyes, not wanting for her to leave.

"Keep Miss Skyla safe. No harm should come to her," he commanded one last time as they moved towards their car. Zyair opened the door for Skyla.

"Good night! Miss Skyla, think about what I said," he slowly said so only she could hear.

"Good night! Sir." She longingly stole a peek at him and their eyes met in a dance of their need for each other. Skyla finally broke the gaze and settled inside. He closed the door behind her.

Meena and Zyair watched until their car disappeared around the bend. He let out a deep sigh and Meena shot him a concerned look.

"Zyair, my son. I know you are a grown-up man and I never interfere in your decisions, but we need to talk."

"Of course, mom. I am hungry, we will talk while I eat." He let his mother lead the way.

Once they had settled and Zyair had taken off his mask, he filled his plate with scrumptious food and dug in.

"What was Amsilia talking about? What happened between you and Doran?" She solemnly asked, placing her wrinkling hands elegantly on the table.

Zyair paused with his spoon and then he gave his mother a short version of what kind of man Doran was. Basically, he was a pathetic man who couldn’t control his emotions and got it out on his wife. freewёbnoνel.com

"Holy Heavens, I had no clue. So he came to your office and hit her there," she asked in exasperation. Zyair placed his spoon down, he had lost his appetite thinking about that day.

"Yes, and I ensured he would never do it again. I wanted to kill the asshole on the spot." Zyair ground his teeth as his eyes coated with a faraway look.

"I see and I understand your need to protect your employee. But try to stay away from such matters. Such people are unhinged and I don’t want you getting caught between husband and wife. At the end of the day, he can always say it’s his personal matter." Meena advised her son with a serious tone.

Zyair turned his attention to his mother and she could see this hurt on his face as if her words had immensely pained him.

"I can’t mom. Didn’t you see how fragile and innocent she is? No woman deserves the life she has. No one deserves to be beaten or burnt. I know because I have been there where she is right now and I will be damned if I don’t get her out. He fucking burns her with cigarettes."

Zyair couldn’t hold back any longer, the agony she saw on his features was nothing she had ever seen. He cared deeply about her because he knew what it felt like.

"Zyair, my son. Breathe and listen to me open-mindedly. All I am asking you is to be careful. Skyla is married and if you interfere too much it will cause problems for her. I am not saying not to help her but try to be more discreet about it."

Meena didn’t have enough words to condemn Doran’s behaviour but she didn’t want her son to get hurt. He was all she had now, she was afraid.

"Don’t worry. She will be divorcing him soon. I will ensure that and then I will never let her return to that bastard," he kept his voice a low snarl but the impact his words left sent a tremor through Meena.

Now she could see it as clear as day. Now she understood what it was all about.

Her son was in love, in love with a married woman. Because there was no other explanation for the erratic behaviour she was seeing from him.

Montague had dropped hints to Meena that there was a woman Zyair admired but it was complicated, not in her strangest dreams she had believed that it would be Skyla.

This was a whole wide mess and Meena had no clue how to talk to her son and pacify him. He was literally shaking with rage, his hands bunched together so tightly that she could see the white of the bone.

"Zyair? Will you tell me something truthfully?" She quietly asked, her concerns written all over her face. He turned his enraged eyes towards his mom and gave a curt nod.

"Do you have feelings for Skyla? Or are you trying to help her just out of the goodness of your heart?"

He thought for a while, taking his time as his mother expectantly watched him before answering.

"She has been my salvation on more than one occasion. I just want to set her free from this caged life. As for my feelings, I am still trying to figure them out but whatever this is, it’s very strong. She is the only woman I desire and will ever do."

He answered his truth and Meena’s heart sank faster than an iron rod. This was only going to get worse from there on. All she could do was pray that her son would come out of this unscathed.
