Chapter 127: Meeting Bitu

"Oh! He is home early." Meena exclaimed as she called out to her son.

"I am here, my boy. Come say hello. I have some special guests over."

He took long strides to approach them, his coat hooked on his index finger and was hanging behind him, his other hand was deep in his pocket. Those charcoal hair had some loose strands obscuring his sapphire eyes. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ

Skyla became extremely tense as the man was none other than her boss and Zyair stopped dead in his tracks as his eyes fell on her.

The awkward silence lengthened and stretched as both elderly women observed them stilled in their postures as if they had forgotten the world around them.

She was wearing a stylish hat today with a pure white sundress of floral design. Sitting among the flowers she was nothing less than a floral queen.

God was kind. Zyair had been praying to find an excuse to go see her and instead, she had come to him. Reeling in the dam of his emotions which was clamoring to burst through.

Instead, he said in his ever-tranquil voice.

"Miss Skyla, it’s a pleasant surprise." He finally smiled underneath that mask.

Now she remembered where she had seen the lady of the house. In the magazines and newspapers. She was Mrs Kincaid but it had been a while and it slipped Skyla’s brain.

"Sir! I—I had no clue." She quickly stood up in a hustle and tried to explain, she didn’t want him to think that she was desperate enough to come to his house just because she hadn’t been to the office.

"Oh! Dear, you didn’t know?" Meena questioned, casting a dubious look at Amsilia who was calmly sipping tea as if nothing had happened.

"Well, how would we have caught these two in such awkward stances if I had? I like surprises," she finally raised her eyes and mischievously responded. Skyla nervously laughed and Meena shook her head.

"In that case. Thank you, Mrs. Blackthorn for bringing her. I would like to show Miss Skyla around. You ladies won’t mind do you?" Zyair politely requested.

"Not at all, young folks. Go enjoy," Amsilia practically shooed them away.

"Let Skyla have tea first." Meena knew her son didn’t like to entertain women but here he was requesting to take Skyla for a tour. She was his secretary and the only woman he ever spoke about and very highly too.

"We will take it inside Mom. I have some urgent matters to discuss with Miss Skyla," he respectfully answered his mother.

"Alright, but don’t bore her with office talk. She is on leave to relax," she instructed and he politely nodded at his mother before turning his attention to Skyla.

Amsilia watched in awe at how respectful he was with his mother. If only her Doran was like this too. Some wishes were just wishes. She silently watched as Zyair guided Skyla inside the house.

"So you had no clue this was my mother’s house?" Zyair asked again just to tease her.

"None at all." She frantically shook her head.

"Well, I am glad you are here. It has been a terrible day."

They entered the mansion and right before Skyla could ask what happened a huge green parrot flew out of nowhere and perched itself on Zyair’s left shoulder.

Skyla let out a small squeal and covered her mouth with both of her hands, clearly startled by the bird.

"Pretty! Pretty!" Bitu bobbed his big head at Skyla, recognising the girl from the picture Zyair had shown him. Parrots have sharp memories and they are excellent at remembering people.

"Bad birdie, you scared Miss Skyla. Say sorry." Zyair spread out his hand so Bitu could sit on it and he slowly ambled down his arm and settled on his palm. Zyair began to rub his head in affection.

"Sorry! Sorry! Sorry!" Bitu began to chant, keeping his beaded eyes focused on Skyla.

Her fear evaporated and was replaced by starry eyes.

"Awww! You are so adorable. I am not afraid, I was just startled a bit. Not expecting a bird to swoop in," she explained, smiling down at Bitu.

"Here, he won’t bite. He only fights with Lawrence," Zyair extended his hand and Bitu flew and settled on Skyla’s shoulder. He began to nip at her braid making her giggle. She patted his head while he rubbed his beak with her face.

"He likes you." Zyair watched them with a satisfied smile, his heart brimming with ease. She was finally here.

"I like him too," Skyla answered, letting him climb on her hat where he perched snuggly.

Both of them laughed seeing his shenanigans.

"Come I will show you around." They broke into steps as Zyair gave her a grand tour of the majestic mansion. Skyla was super impressed and even more so when Zyair informed her that this was specifically built by Montague for his wife and told her more about their love story.

"That’s so beautiful and I love how you completed the missing piece in their lives."

"Yes, but I wish Dad was still alive. I miss him." Sadness descended in his shimmering orbs as they stopped outside a closed door.

"He is watching you from above and I am sure he is extremely proud." Skyla extended her hand and rubbed his arm as no one was around in this area. Relief washed over Zyair as he felt all mushy because of her touch.

"I know, come inside. Bitu you go eat something I will catch you later." Zyair ordered him and the bird reluctantly flew away.

He wanted to be alone with Skyla.

Zyair opened the door to his bedroom and invited her in. She quietly stepped inside.

"Your mom?" She questioned looking over her shoulder. Zyair closed the door once they were inside.

"Nothing will happen and no one will say anything, you are safe with me Skyla. You know that," he told her softly, offering her his hand.

The trust and reassurance that he dispensed prompted her to take it. He guided her to the plush armchairs in the corner and they settled in them. Zyair draped his coat on the back of the chair.

Only then did Skyla observe his room. Rich with his scent and methodically primed. Nothing out of the sort as it always was when it concerned him. The hues were royal blue and white and it somehow soothed her.

"Your room is so tidy," she complimented and he smiled at her observation. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com

"Yes, I have a knack for keeping everything in its place or I get a bit anxious." His thumb drew small circles on her burnt mark. His eyes focused on it, the heart heavy with what had transpired today.

Skyla could sense that dark heaviness surrounding him.

"What’s wrong? You wanted to talk to me about something," she promptly questioned, seeing him lost.

"Yes, something happened in the office today." Zyair drew in a heavy breath before he went on to explain what had transpired.

Skyla was shell-shocked. He could feel her trembling, this could turn so bad. Both of their reputations will be destroyed if the word got out.

"I can’t believe she stooped so low. At the event, she wasn’t listening to anything I was saying so I reprimanded her and threatened to fire her. Didn’t know she would act this way. I am sorry I wasn’t there to protect you like you always are for me."

She lamented with a heavy heart but the consideration she showed for him left him destitute.

Destitute for more of her love and emotion. He scooped her up and had her in his lap within a fraction of a second.

Her breath hitched but she didn’t pull away. He pressed his forehead to her slightly parted lips.

"Skyla! What are you doing to me?"
