Chapter 15: He’s An Enemy

There was silence for a second before Arianna parted her lips to speak.

"Daemon Langford."

There was a much longer silence now, as if every single one of them were waiting for her to laugh it off and admit it was a joke.

But she wasn’t joking.

It was clearly written on her solemn expression that she was serious.

"Are you crazy?" Josephine demanded. "We’re trying to get out of war and you want to add us to another one? It’s like moving from a pot to a frying pan."

Neither of them could make sense of what Arianna had just said and they could only deeply hope that she was indeed joking.

Arianna cleared her throat before she explained.

"Daemon met up with me at a cafe earlier and he was the one who told me about the troubles we were having that I had no idea about." She glanced at every one of them, letting them know that she didn’t like being excluded from the troubles of their business.

Christian’s eyebrows creased into a frown. "But why would he tell you that? Were you two out on a date?"

Arianna quickly shook her head.

"He found me there. It’s almost as if he’s stalking me." Then she closed her eyes and shook off the memories of her past stalker from many years ago. "He offered to supply us with the weapons we need, but only under what condition."

"And what’s this condition?" Josephine asked, air-quoting the last word.

"He wants me to marry him." freeweɓnovel.cѳm

Josephine scoffed as if already tired of the conversation.

"I can’t believe this," she mumbled under her breath, her head falling on the backrest of the couch as she snickered.

"We’re not accepting any help from the Langfords and you’re not marrying Daemon Langford," her father said, gaining her attention. "We already have enough bad blood with those people. You getting married to one of them is only going to give them leverage over us since they’re still out for revenge for what happened that day."

Arianna’s lips thinned.

Daemon had mentioned that her father wasn’t the one who’d killed his mother.

She knew her father didn’t do it. There was no evidence to back his claim when he’d been accused but the old man didn’t need evidence to convince his children.

Their hands were painted with blood daily.

Denying to kill one extra person didn’t make any sense especially since Mr. Wesley already shared a feud with Mr. Langford in the past.

If he were the one who wanted to kill Mr. Langford’s wife, he would have done it in the sickest way possible.

Knowing her father had the sickest and most disturbing ways of torturing someone till they begged him to simply just take their life, that wasn’t hard for him to do at all especially if he wanted to.

"He also said—"

"Are you really going to let that man feed you so many lies, Arianna," Cassian snapped, his eyes narrowed. "He’s an enemy. He’s not to be trusted. Just because he saved you once, it doesn’t make him a hero. He’s still an enemy. Don’t forget that."

Arianna suddenly wished that she could listen to Cassian’s words.

However, they passed through one ear and left through the other one, leaving absolutely nothing behind to make logic with.

"But do we have any other choice? If mother finds out about this—"

"You’re not telling your mother about this no matter what happens," Mr. Wesley cut her off. "She doesn’t need to know about this."

All of them stiffly nodded their heads, agreeing.

Mr. Wesley sighed. "I understand that this is a hard time that we’re all in right now. But I’m still going to find a supplier. I won’t stop until I do."

After getting married to their mother, their maternal grandfather, the former Don of the Cosa Nostra, had passed down the throne to him since his daughter had no intentions of physically being involved in their dirty business. But that only happened when Mr. Wesley showed a lot of dedication and promise of making the Cosa Nostra thrive under his rule.

And now, they were about to be completely wiped out.

Arianna couldn’t take this risk. She loved her family and would do anything for them.

Later that night,

Arianna pondered her discussion in her father’s office that night.

She thought about the pros and cons of getting married to Daemon Langford. The pros overruled the cons because her family would stay alive.

However, the cons didn’t look too good either.

If she married Daemon, she might die in his hands because these could all be his plans that he’d orchestrated, a way to avenge his mother’s death.

Arianna resisted the urge to pull on her hair in frustration.

Sighing, she stepped out of her bed and walked out of the balcony that came with her room.

She needed fresh air.

Any wrong decision would lead to a dire consequence.

Her father might have assured them that he would handle everything, but she’d seen the uncertainty lying in his eyes.

He was just as terrified as she was but as Don and a father, he was used to masking his fears and worries.

Arianna closed her eyes as she breathed in the fresh air, but the faint noises she heard didn’t let her enjoy her quiet moment.

She opened her eyes in exasperation, searching for the people murmuring about.

Her eyes landed on her father and Cassian who were by the swimming pool.

"We don’t have much time, father," Cassian reminded. "If we don’t act now, things are only going to get worse."

Mr. Wesley sighed before he took a puff of his cigarette that was in between his fingers.

"I’ll do anything but there’s no way I’m letting your sister get married to that Daemon," her father replied with so much detest staining his tone.

Arianna’s shoulders slumped. Her father would rather eat dirt than accept help from an enemy.

Fortunately, she wasn’t her father.

This was an opportunity and she was going to take it.
