Chapter 14: Doomed
"You must be crazy to think that I’ll do that. For all I know, you came up with this suggestion to have me killed. You’re not to be trusted, Daemon Langford."
Arianna didn’t wait to finish her drink as she stood up, ready to walk out when Daemon suddenly held her arm, stopping her.
The contact made her skin burn and she instinctively pulled her arm away from his grip, a heavy scowl on her face.
"Don’t you dare touch me," she warned. "Just because you saved my life one time doesn’t mean you get to lay your hand on me, do you understand me?"
Daemon’s lips thinned.
If only she knew that he hadn’t saved her life only one time but multiple times. But that was a topic for another day.
"I just want you to think about it," he said but Arianna didn’t wait to hear the rest of his words as she marched out of the cafe, exasperation written all over her face.
As soon as Arianna reached outside, she pulled out her phone from her bag and put her father on the call.
"What is it that you’re not telling me?" She questioned the moment the call connected.
Mr. Wesley glanced at Cassian who was sitting right opposite him. They’d been discussing about an issue they had when he’d suddenly received Arianna’s call.
His eyebrows creased in confusion, wondering what she could be talking about.
"And before you lie about this, I want to tell you that I already know something. So you might as well tell me the truth instead of stalling."
Her tone was not harsh but it was firm enough for her father to realize she wasn’t joking at all.
"We’ll talk when you return."
That was all Arianna needed to hear.
She hung up on the call and placed her phone back into her bag before walking to the car.
When she got in, she unintentionally made eye contact with Daemon who was looking at her through the glass wall.
For a second, he looked like he’d just been abandoned.
She ignored him as she ignited the engines of her car and drove to the airport.
She was supposed to stay longer for her revenge on Vivian and Logan, but this was much more important.
A few hours later...
Arianna walked into the Wesley mansion, her heels clicking on the clean marble floor.
The aroma of food wafted across the house, letting her know it was already dinner time.
She headed straight to the dining room, sighting everyone present already. She was the only one missing.
"You’re back," her mother gasped, her face gleaming with surprise. "I thought you were going to stay a little bit longer in Las Vegas."
Arianna took a seat next to her mother, a smile on her lips. "I missed you so much. That’s why I returned."
Her mother’s smile bloomed into an even bigger one.
"You’ve grown but you still act like a baby." She quickly instructed the servant to serve Arianna her food.
Arianna glanced at her father who was sitting at the head of the table, his eyes already on her.
He gave her a slight shake of his head when he noticed she was about to open her mouth.
Arianna turned against the idea.
Dinner time was family time, and everything that needed to be discussed was put on hold until later.
Also, she knew that her father wouldn’t want to worry her mother by discussing how they were days away from fighting in a war with a Mexican cartel with no weapon to defend themselves with.
Her mother was already a worrisome woman by nature. If she heard their conversation, she would collapse.
Arianna turned to Josephine, Christian, and Cassian who were already silently having dinner, all three avoiding eye contact with her even when she intently stared at them for full sixty seconds.
A few minutes later,
Dinner was over. It was finally time for the talk.
"Are we really going to war against Crisanto Sanchez?" Arianna asked as soon as she walked into her father’s office.
Her siblings were already present, each taking a seat but Arianna was too troubled to even relax.
"How did you come to know this?" Mr. Wesley questioned.
Arianna instantly paused.
She couldn’t tell them it was Daemon.
They would flip.
"Through gossip," she lied.
Her father gave her a deadpan look but she pretended not to see it.
"Do we really not have any weapons stacked in our warehouses anymore?" She asked, redirecting the conversation back to its main subject.
"Our warehouses were burnt down," Cassian replied.
She frowned slightly. "We have a lot of warehouses. How can—"
"Every single one of them was burnt to the ground, Arianna," Cassian cut her off.
There was a sudden edge to his tone that even her father picked up. He gave him a look while Cassian quickly lowered his.
"We were attacked by that stupid old hag who still hasn’t let go of his grudge yet," Josephine took over. "He’s out for revenge on father and we can’t really do anything right now unless prepare to die."
"Josie!" Their father snapped.
Josephine merely shrugged.
"What? I didn’t say anything wrong," she quickly defended. "None of the suppliers are willing to sell us weapons because of the threat that old hag is using on them." Then Josephine leaned back on the couch she was resting on. "We’re doomed."
Arianna frowned deeply.
Josephine was usually the one with a fighter’s spirit among them.
If she already gave up, that just means that the situation is even more dire than she thought it was.
"So, let me get this straight," Arianna said, holding her hand in front of her. "Every warehouse has been burnt to the ground, including everything in it. Suppliers aren’t willing to sell to us because Crisanto is threatening them and he’s about to wage war against us, which leaves us with nothing to defend ourselves with?"
"That pretty much sums it up," Christian said, speaking for the first time since she arrived. ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com
Arianna took a deep breath before she continued. "What if I say I know someone willing to sell us weapons?"
Cassian looked up at her, curiosity in his gaze.
"Who?"
There was silence for a second before Arianna parted her lips to speak.
"Daemon Langford."
