Chapter 124: Xander’s Escape
"Shit..."
Xander managed to escape from the arena at the same time when most people stormed from there.
He was carrying the still unconscious Cail on his back as he walked in the northwest direction.
His injuries from his previous match against Mika and Belian were still stinging.
Even though he consumed a healing potion, his wound surprisingly would not close entirely.
Xander was exhausted and just wanted to rest, however, no place was safe.
Everywhere in the capital were fights and inside the academy’s walls was not much safer as he sensed the presence of very strong people like Olivia Rostanta. freewёbnoνel.com
"When is this idiot waking up?!"
He looked at Cail.
No matter how much he complained about him in the past, he could not leave him on his own devices as he was his little brother in the end.
"Was that punch of that bastard so strong?" he wondered.
"..."
"Ah, what am I saying..." he said to himself with a sigh.
He knew better now.
Mika was strong.
Xander had to acknowledge this fact. After all, he, the strongest student among the second-years, was toyed with during the match.

He stared at the grey sky.
"So that was the so-called Excalibur, huh...?"
Soon, he arrived at his destination.
"I suppose it was truly a bad matchup, given the nature of my relic." he said tiredly.
His gaze was cast to his upper body.
"Tch... They had to go all the way and destroy it, huh? Just great..." he complained in a sarcastic tone.
During the match, Xander’s dagger was shattered by Belian.
"Why do I have such bad luck today..."
He shook his head.
"At least the summon was successful..."
Then, Xander stopped when he arrived in front of the wall.
For the last time, he looked behind.
In the direction of his eyes was the infirmary.
"If only it didn’t break." he stated with scorn as he turned around.
"Well, let’s escape from here first and wait until they’re done."
Following that, a gentle wind was summoned around his feet.
Xander began to levitate.
The wind was carrying him over the wall.
"I know that they’re currently occupying the gates so going there now is a no-go."
He scratched his head.
"No place is safe."
"Maybe I should fly out of Loogam. But I can’t risk anyone seeing me..."
He was pondering.
"Just how can I escap-"
"It’s Xander!"
"Huh? Where?!"
"Captain!"
All of a sudden, he heard familiar voices.
And yet, he was anything but pleased.
"You’re kidding me..." he muttered exhaustedly.
Waving their hands at him were second-year students.
Xander looked at the whole situation.
His eyes narrowed when he saw the students fighting two demons.
"They don’t seem really strong... Perhaps C-ranks?" he concluded.
"We need your help!"
The students kept begging for his assistance.
Xander sighed again before he descended to the ground.
"Where are the others?" he asked.
The number of second-year students was already small, however, it appeared like the number was halved again.
"We split up. The others are currently fighting in the southwest." one of the students explained.
"I see."
His eyes roamed through the students.
There were only a few disciplinary committee members in this group. And aside from them, lots of black-class and silver-class students were present.
Overall, the group was weak.
But then, he grinned.
"Leave it to me. As the captain of the disciplinary committee I order everyone here to rush to the southwest and to aid the other students." he said in a clear and loud voice.
"H-huh? But we can’t leave you alone!"
"There are two demons!"
"You alone w-"
"Are you doubting my strength?" Xander cut off their doubts with sharp words.
However, the moment he uttered those words, he evaluated himself.
"I wouldn’t declare something so ridiculous if I don’t know if I can keep my word." he corrected himself.
His tone was kinder.
"So leave."
He signaled them with a hand gesture to get away from there.
"..."
The students were reluctant in the beginning but they soon started to flee from the scene.
Xander waited until no one was in sight anymore.
He put Cail down somewhere safe before he faced the demons.
"Are you stupid? Why would you try to face us alone?" one of the demons said.
Xander tilted his head.
The other demon squinted the eyes.
"I will show you what happens if you play the hero!"
The demon immediately rushed at Xander.
"Tch."
Xander dodged the demon, who tried to thrust through Xander’s chest, and grabbed his arm.
"Wait a sec-"
"Don’t touch me!"
Like an animal, the demon did not try to listen to him and proceeded to attack him from the other side with the other hand.
He attempted to grab his head, however, Xander was able to evade his hand.
Xander sensed the demon’s blood lust.
"You won’t listen, huh?"
Wind gathered in Xander’s right hand.
And without hesitation, he cut off the demon’s head.
The body lifelessly dropped to the knees and then to the ground. The ground beneath it and Xander’s feet turned red. And the head disappeared somewhere among the rubble.
"It’s not my fault. He wouldn’t listen to me." Xander stated, shrugging his shoulders.
"I tell you, it’s self-defense." he added relaxed.
He directed his glare at the other demon.
"Didn’t that imbecile know who I am?" he asked sternly.
The other demon could only sigh.
"He was just an idiot." the demon responded disappointingly.
"I see."
Xander walked over to Cail again.
"Hey, can you bring my brother somewhere safe? I will from here first." Xander said indifferently.
The demon’s eyes sharpened.
"What did you say?"
"Do I have to repeat myself?"
Xander, too, was glaring.
"Hahaha..."
Silently, the demon began to chuckle.
"What’s so funny?"
The grin on the demon’s face was malicious.
"Killing one of my kin is one thing but ordering me around despite being a human is unacceptable." he said threateningly.
Xander walked over to the demon until he was within arm’s reach.
"So what are you going to do about it?" Xander returned the threat.
His hands were in his pockets as he looked down on the demon.
"It seems like someone has to learn some manners."
"Really? Who is it?" Xander acted oblivious to the threat.
"Disrespectful to the end, huh...?"
The demon’s eyes softened in disappointment and pity.
He spread his wings and flew into the air.
"Just for your information, I’m nothing like that fool. We may share the same rank but I’m in the upper echelons!" he proclaimed, now being the one to look down on Xander.
"..."
Xander appeared unimpressed.
"I will be the one to judge that." he said lazily.
Darkness gathered around the demon’s hands.
"Die!"
He flew in his direction as he was about to end Xander.
"..."
One minute later.
A gigantic crater was now there.
And there were no traces of the demon.
"In the end, I don’t see a difference between you and that other idiot." Xander stated indifferently, heading to Cail.
"Remember, it was your foolishness that led you to your death." he added, glancing at the crater, he caused.
It was Xander, who launched an attack, that involved multiple buildings in it. And the crater was the result of it. Including the death of the demon.
"..."
Xander looked at the small tornado on his palm.
It disappeared the moment he formed a fist.
"This is what happens when you face me, Xander Maystra, the one with the strength of three S-rank mages."
The one with the strength of three S-rank mages.
It was a nickname he earned thanks to his relic ’Magic Mastery’.
The relic enabled him to use magic, whose power and capacity rivaled that of three S-rank mages combined.
"Now, what should I do with you...?"
His hands were on his hips as he looked at Cail.
"How are you able to sleep so long?"
Xander looked to the right and then to the left.
"Hmm... Maybe this spot is now the safest..." he muttered pensively.
He turned his face at Cail again.
His expression seemed sad and lonely.
"Sorry, but I have to leave Loogam for now."
Following those words, he turned his back on him and went away.
"D-don’t..."
"!"
Xander widened his eyes and twisted his neck after he heard Cail’s faint words.
"Jeez..."
He chuckled lightly.
"You still have the habit of talking in your sleep?"
His slight smile turned into a straight line.
"I didn’t forget our promise."
It was the contrary. Not a single day would pass by without reciting his promise to Cail.
It was due to that promise that he was doing all of this.
It was his desire to be the strongest that pushed him forward.
Strong wind gathered around Xander, who stood in the crater’s center point.
For the last time, he opened his mouth before he disappeared.
He wore a smile.
"I will come back for you someday, my little brother."
