Chapter 123: Another One Down

While Mika, Harik and Rachel were fighting against Clara, Belian’s group was still facing Zera.

Her demonic gift allowed her to make her opponents feel drowsy the longer they listened to her voice until they eventually fell asleep.

Therefore, Sylvia and Lisa were on the brink of sleeping.

However, Belian did not show any signs of feeling tired as his sheer determination kept him awake.

Sweat streamed down Zera’s face after her arm was cut off from her.

She was gritting her teeth while glaring at Belian.

But Belian glared back at her.

"You." she called out to him.

Zera lifted her chin and looked down at Belian.

She hid her hostility and tried to look sternly.

"I see that you possess extraordinary fighting strength. So how about it? Do you want to join our cause?"

"..."

Belian’s eyes narrowed even more.

"Our liege welcomes you with open arms. Generous, right?"

He raised his sword in the air again and swung it down in her direction.

"Tch!"

She dodged this time.

"Me joining you? How presumptuous." he said coldly.

The sword slash left behind a trail of destruction on the ground.

"I only live to kill demons."

"..."

Zera sighed at his answer.

"That’s fine with me, too. Even though it was a task given to us, I wouldn’t feel good, knowing that the person who cut off my arm would be my comrade." she stated, shrugging her shoulders.

Belian’s eyes twitched for a moment.

"Hm~"

Obviously, Zera noticed that.

"Seems like your determination is just nothing but empty words." she mocked him.

"Shut up..." he responded with a slight change in his tone.

"It’s fine, you know? Sleep is important for you humans."

His eyes squinted and he started to feel dizzy the longer he tried to stand straight.

"Now that I think about it, this may be the first time in a while since I’ve talked so long with an enemy."

He swayed on the spot.

"..."

With just one eye open, Sylvia watched the two.

She looked to her side and saw Lisa sleeping peacefully on the ground.

Sylvia was pondering.

"I... I will... kill you..." Belian repeated himself with a strained voice.

Zera continued mocking him.

"..."

Sylvia bit her lips weakly.

She crawled over to Lisa.

The rapier which Lisa wielded was loosely in her hand.

Then, Sylvia grabbed the rapier’s blade with her right hand.

"..."

She closed her eyes tightly.

"Hngh...!" she groaned silently.

In order to stay awake, she had to ram her left hand’s palm into the rapier’s peak.

After she pulled out her hand, she created a small ice cube.

"Sorry, Lisa."

Following that, she pulled lightly on Lisa’s back collar and put the ice cube in her clothes.

"Hiii!" Lisa let out a shrill shriek as her whole body was twitching.

"Lisa, hurry up and stab yourself, too." Sylvia said indifferently.

Her tone and statement seemed absurd but Lisa was able to quickly grasp the intentions behind her words.

Thus, she also pierced through her left hand.

"So they found the trick, huh?" Zera said unamusedly.

"..."

Belian’s head hung low and the posture of his upper body was weak.

But the girls felt more energetic now and rushed to his side.

Still, he did not react.

"Should I stab him?" Lisa asked sternly.

"No, let me do this." Sylvia replied.

She took a deep breath.

And then, she launched a heavy punch.

She hit his face and slammed him to the ground.

"We will make an opening for you so finish this with one last attack, okay?" Sylvia said, looking at Zera.

"..."

He did not respond as he looked up to the sky.

It was only now that he realized that the sky turned grey.

Was it before his match against the Maystra brothers when he looked at the sky the last time?

"Even if I have only one arm, do you think I would lose against you?"

Zera was offended when Sylvia and Lisa faced her.

"..."

The two girls did not say anything back and started to emit their magic.

Lisa was surrounded by lightning, whereas around Sylvia was a visible coldness.

It was Lisa, who dashed to Zera first.

But despite her enormous speed, Zera was able to dodge her rapier.

"Ugh!"

Zera kicked her away.

"!"

But Sylvia was already there.

Zera used a backhanded punch on her.

It hit Sylvia on her cheek but instead of tumbling back, Sylvia remained in her spot as she managed to grab on her arm.

"Got you..."

Sylvia smirked at her with a little blood dripping from her mouth.

"?"

Slowly but steadily, her arm began to freeze.

"You little-"

Like Lisa, Zera kicked her away.

But reality betrayed her when she thought that she was able to take a breather because Lisa came back.

And this time, she landed a hit.

"This is getting annoying...!" Zera muttered enraged.

The rapier pierced through her stomach.

"!"

At the same time, Sylvia quickly returned and jumped at her leg. freeωebnovēl.c૦m

"What the-"

It may have seemed pathetic but it was effective as Sylvia embraced the leg with her whole body, meaning that it froze even faster.

Lisa pulled out her rapier and was about to go for another thrust.

"Enough is enough!"

Lisa noticed her fatigue returning but at that moment, Zera grabbed her head and smashed her knee in her face.

She followed up with a kick.

"No matter how much pain you feel, I will give you even more pain so that you won’t stand up anymore." Zera stated with a fierce glance.

"..."

Sylvia gritted her teeth, seeing Lisa getting knocked out.

Her eyes started to become droopy, too.

"And the same goes for you!"

She grabbed her by her hair and pulled her up.

"Tch..."

Then, Zera threw her up and retracted her arm.

"I will end this no- Huh?"

She turned agape, after seeing Belian standing beside her.

He still felt a certain amount of drowsiness, however, he was able to hold his sword properly.

"..."

And without any words, he swiftly cut her in halves.

Zera did not make a sound.

Her body was split in two.

Her backside stood longer before it fell, too, whereas her front, including her face, fell to the front.

After a short while, her body began to melt as well.

"..."

Noticing that, Belian let out a yawn before he collapsed.

"Maybe I should let them rest for a while..." Sylvia muttered with a wry smile.

She just landed on the ground again after she was thrown in the air.

Her landing was a little awkward due to the height but she luckily did not receive worse injuries.

In the meantime, Mika ran towards the two.

[Was it a good idea to let them be?]

"I told them to join the headmaster’s side. He may have a better overview of the current situation than me."

[And what about that Harik person? His eyes had unmistakably the same appearance of a demon. Are you not curious about that?]

"You’re surprisingly talkative, you know?"

[...]

Mika sighed.

"I would be lying if I said that this doesn’t interest me, however, this is something I can ask him later."

[I see.]

"For now, we have to take care of Zaran."

[But would it not be wiser to take care of the other demons in the capital? Remember, the queen of Rostanta is currently facing Zaran.]

"Then, how are the others doing right now?"

[It is bad. Let me start with Ophelia Ross. She is...]

The system explained Loogam’s situation to Mika, who stopped in his tracks.

"What...?"

He sounded shocked as he broke into a cold sweat.

[If this goes on, the parties at each gate will fall.]

Mika visualized a map in his head with everyone’s standpoint.

But it was grim.

Belian and his group won against Zera.

Mika, Harik and Rachel won against Clara.

But the rest was still fighting.

Some stood on equal footing with their opponents, whereas others were clearly struggling.

"T-there’s a way to win, right? R-right?" Mika asked with a nervous smile.

[What do you consider as winning in this situation? Saving the people? Saving Loogam? Killing all demons? Or just simply surviving?"]

"H-huh?"

[You cannot get everything. You have to choose.]

"I..."

[Do not be optimistic. And do not force yourself to be a hero. Say what you truly desire.]

Mika clenched his teeth.

"I want- Hngh!"

Suddenly, his heart throbbed strongly.

His left eye turned blue with its pupil forming its shape.

"K-kill... I-I want to k- No!"

His breathing was ragged.

More sweat rolled down his face.

"What’s going on with me...?! I feel so hot..."

Mika clenched his chest.

[...]

"I... I want to save as many as I possibly can!" he shouted desperately.

[Understood.]

"But I don’t know what I have to do... So please, can you guide me through this, system...?"

[...]

Mika heard a sigh from the system’s side.

[Rather than a quest, treat my words as advice.]

Mika nodded his head once and firmly.

[Go to the west gate.]
