Chapter 120: The Other A-Ranks

"Gosh... It’s been so long since we saw each other and this is how our reunion turned out?" Cindy stated with a sigh.

"Can we talk later?" Ophelia replied annoyedly.

The two were currently at the south gate, which was already in trembles the moment they arrived.

"You’re so cold~" Cindy pouted.

"..."

Ophelia’s eyebrow twitched.

"Looks like one of you doesn’t seem to understand the graveness of the situation."

Talking to them was a man, who was clad in dark armor and a black robe. He put his hoodie on and hid his face behind a white mask.

That man was one of the A-rank demons.

His name was Cwon.

Ophelia stayed cautious, not knowing her opponent’s abilities or attack patterns.

Even Cindy analyzed him despite not showing it in her demeanor.

"..."

Cwon shifted his head in Cindy’s direction.

And in the next moment, he dashed to her.

"!"

Cindy was able to react in time and was about to create a thick ice wall to block the incoming attack.

However, what happened next shocked not only her but also Ophelia.

"What?!"

Cindy was baffled when instead of ice, lightning came out of her hands.

She was sent flying instantly as there was no physical object to block Cwon’s punch.

"Cindy!" Ophelia shouted concernedly.

Like always, Ophelia wanted to charge herself up with lightning and head to the enemy, however, something strange happened again.

There were no lightning sparks around her body.

Her body started to get rigid as she seemingly started to turn some body parts to ice.

"W-what the hell...?!"

Cwon was now in front of her.

"What did you d-"

With a kick, Ophelia crashed into a building.

"It’s confusing, right?" Cwon said.

Cindy, who had wide-open eyes, emitted great blood lust as she appeared behind him.

She straightened her right hand, which had lightning gathered there.

Quickly, she attempted to pierce through his armor with her hand but Cwon evaded.

"Oh? Are you by any chance smarter than you look?" he wondered.

"..."

She did not say anything and kept launching one attack after another.

Cindy used close-quarter combat combined with lightning magic.

From an outsider’s perspective, it appeared like she was a natural lightning mage.

"I see... So you’re the reason for this." Ophelia stated intimidatingly as she emerged from the destroyed building.

She placed her hands on the ground and then, great icicles emerged from the ground.

A few buildings were swept in by her attack but she thought that Cwon would not be able to evade such a large-scale attack.

However, before Cwon was harmed, the icicles stopped moving forward.

"?"

Cindy, who was engulfed in lightning just a few moments ago, saw her body freezing up.

"What now...?" Ophelia muttered.

"I switched your magic back." Cwon replied, standing on the icicles.

"Tch..."

"But I have to admit, it’s impressive that you two figured out this small trick of mine so soon."

"Small trick?"

Ophelia sounded annoyed.

"Yes. Aside from just simply switching your magics is just one of many things I can do."

"..."

She narrowed her eyes sternly.

The fact alone that he was able to switch their magics so easily was troublesome enough for them, however, she was nervous, thinking about his other tricks.

"Hm?"

At that moment, she heard the painful wailing of a dog.

Ophelia turned her head around and saw a dog, whose leg was stuck under rubble.

"Ophelia! Watch out!"

"Is there even time to worry about such a feeble thing?"

"!"

Cwon appeared beside Ophelia without even making a sound.

Instinctively, Ophelia created some distance.

"..."

He looked at the dog before he approached Ophelia again.

He leaped at her with a retracted arm.

Then, Cwon launched a straight punch, which Ophelia managed to dodge.

She rolled on the ground but before she could even lift her face, Cwon was there again.

Without much effort, he kicked her in the stomach again.

"Hngh!"

The pain she felt was tremendous.

Compared to his first kick, the last one was lacking in force, still, the pain she was inflicted with was greater.

With just that kick, multiple bones and rips broke.

She balled up on the ground, holding in her scream as her body twitched in agony.

Blood flooded her lungs and leaked out of her mouth.

Meanwhile, the dog, which was previously stuck, got out easily and dashed away as if it had no pain.

"..."

Open-mouthed, Cindy was looking at the scene and pondered.

However, she had no time when she saw Cwon raising his leg.

She summoned small icicles in the air and shot them at him.

Cwon jumped to the side to avoid being hit.

"Ophelia! Are you okay?!"

Cindy was deeply worried and checked Ophelia’s body.

"D-d-do I look fine...?" Ophelia replied weakly with a smirk.

"..."

Sweat streamed down Cindy’s face.

"Didn’t I tell you? Switching magic is just one of many things I can do."

Cwon walked over to the two.

"What did you do to her?" Cindy said with gritted teeth.

"What I did? This time, I just simply switched her physical stat with the physical stat of that dog." he explained.

The things he said sounded as if he was not taking this seriously but his tone stayed stern the entire time.

"H-huh?"

"This is my demonic gift. The ability to switch whatever I want."

At the same time, Lereon was fighting at the west gate.

"M-Mr. Pantl, let me offer you my support!" Erwin, who was sent there by the headmaster, suggested nervously.

Contrary to the east and south gate, the west gate was still intact.

There were no signs of destruction, however, around a particular demon were multiple corpses.

Some corpses were scattered around the street, some hung on the wall’s rails and some rested against the wall.

There was indeed no destruction, yet everything was covered in bloody puddles and bloody splats.

"Oh~ Do you want to play with me, too~?"

The demon, who sounded playful, was a mature woman.

She had long and straight black hair. Her lips were glossy and red.

The woman wore a long black dress with arm sleeves consisting of a dark transparent fabric.

She had a thin stature and her black nails were long and sharp.

"..."

Lereon looked at the corpses and the unfazed buildings.

Usually, if a demon fought, then destruction would go hand in hand with it.

And yet, everything seemed normal aside from the dead people.

"I didn’t use my demonic gift." the woman stated with a smirk.

"!"

"I can only use it once a day so I already planned beforehand on whom I will use it." she elaborated, shrugging her shoulders.

"And on whom do you plan to use it?" Lereon asked sternly.

The woman grinned widely.

"Why should I tell you that?" she mocked him.

"You fiend!" Erwin said vexedly.

"There’s no use talking to her, Mr. Pantl!"

Erwin gathered wind in his hands.

"Wait."

"?"

Lereon stopped Erwin.

"Who are you?"

"What do you mean?"

She tilted her head but her grin remained.

"You’re not a normal demon. The aura you give off resembles the aura of your leader."

Her grin vanished.

"It’s not good to compare a woman with someone else, you know?"

Her tone turned a little bit sterner and more threatening.

"And just for your information, he’s not ’my’ leader."

Erwin felt the pressure she was emitting and reflexively summoned wind again.

"Stay put until I give the signal." Lereon muttered to the impatient and nervous Erwin.

The woman walked over to them.

Her heels clicked and echoed in that place.

And even when she was right in front of them, Lereon kept calm.

"Indeed, just who am I exactly?" she fooled around while keeping a straight face.

Only a drop of sweat rolled down his face when she walked in circles around them.

"I knew that people of your caliber would pick up the presence of us A-rank demons."

She continued talking.

"But too bad for you. If you had only chosen the south gate instead of my gate."

"..."

"You know it, too, right? The presence in the south is a lot weaker than mine, right?"

She stopped in front of them.

A grin appeared on her charming face again.

Darkness started to spread on the ground.

"Now!" Lereon yelled.

At that moment, both jumped back and launched their magic attacks on her. freewёbnoνel.com

Erwin created a powerful horizontal tornado aimed at her, whereas Lereon summoned roots with peaky ends from the ground, which were ordered to pierce her.

On her spot, dust came up.

She was not seen anymore.

"Just kidding, just kidding, hahaha!"

"?!"

Lereon and Erwin landed on the roof of a building but the woman apparently also was on the same roof.

She patted their shoulders while laughing.

"It was just a little prank, haha!"

The two hastily created some distance.

"No need to overreact like that, haha! Didn’t I say that I won’t use my demonic gift on you?" she explained, wiping a tear from her eye.

"You damn-"

"Let me introduce myself. I am Deara. The current number 3 amongst the A-ranks."
