Chapter 121: Belian’s Determination
Mika, Harik and Rachel previously split up from the others, leaving Belian, Sylvia and Lisa alone against the demon Zera.
The other students, whom they escorted, headed towards the headmaster.
Sylvia was already in a fighting stance, whereas Lisa nervously drew her rapier.
"..."
Neither tensed nor nervous, Belian stood there and glared at the demon.
"Hey, boy. What are giving me this look for?" Zera said, glaring back.
Belian’s eyes were filled with wrath and hatred.
"W-what are you doing? Don’t provoke her!" Lisa whispered to him anxiously.
"..."
Meanwhile, Sylvia watched out for Zera’s movements, however, she did not move an inch away from her spot yet.
"Hm? Looks like someone here has experience on the battlefield." Zera stated with a light smirk.
She moved a foot.
"!"
But before Sylvia or the others could react, Zera vanished from the spot and appeared behind Sylvia.
She retracted her hand, aiming to pierce Sylvia.
Luckily, Sylvia managed to separate herself from the demon by counterattacking with magic.
Lisa hesitated on the first step but then she quickly resolved herself and went for Zera, who jumped into the air a moment ago.
She enhanced herself and her rapier with lightning magic.
"You’re pretty fast." Zera remarked relaxedly.
But Lisa did not listen to her and focused on her attack as she thrust her rapier forward.
She aimed for the stomach but Zera bent her body so that she would not get hit.
Following that, Zera grabbed Lisa’s arm and threw her with great force to the ground.
Spreading her bat-like wings, Zera took her time landing on the ground and made them disappear again.
"Color me surprised. I didn’t expect some mere students to have the guts to face me, a demon." Zera huffed.
"Still, I wonder what your deal is, boy."
She sharpened her gaze as her eyes shifted to Belian.
"..."
"..."
Zera and Belian glared at each other.
However, at that moment Zera’s body instinctively turned around.
"!"
She jumped aside when she saw a flash.
When she gently touched her right cheek, she noticed that she received a cut wound.
"Tch..."
There were traces of lightning magic, making the wound sting even more.
It was Lisa, who dealt a blow to her.
Enhanced with magic, she was the fastest student in the academy.
"Fuu..." she exhaled deeply.
"Maybe I should take c-"
Zera turned to Lisa and was about to get serious with her but at the same time, she sensed something from above.
Right above her was a hammer made out of ice.
She was able to dodge the hammer, which shattered into many pieces when it hit the ground.
However, Zera was not safe yet as Sylvia was following her closely.
"Now it’s getting annoying..."
With a freezing hand, Sylvia tried to grab a body part of Zera.
But Zera held Sylvia’s arm with her fingertips almost touching her face.
"Hrngh...!" Sylvia groaned silently in pain as Zera applied some force to it.
She clenched tighter and tighter until Sylvia voluntarily pulled back.
Sylvia regrouped with Lisa and Belian.
"Hey, Belian, what’s up with you...?" Sylvia asked exhaustedly.
While Lisa and Sylvia were fighting Zera, Belian did not show any signs of doing anything, which was strange for him.
Zera sighed as she walked over to them.
"It should happen any second now..." she muttered in a carefree tone.
Magic emitted out of the two girls when they took up their fighting postures again.
Then, the two leaped to her.
"?"
However, their pace suddenly dropped and they began to sway from their original target.
"What’s going on...?" Lisa wondered as she grabbed her hair.
"..."
Squinting her eyes a little, Sylvia stared at Zera, who was grinning.
"It’s your demonic gift, right...?"
Her grin widened.
"That’s correct."
Lisa fell on one knee.
"I feel so tired..."
Even Sylvia slowly struggled to maintain her balance.
"The more often and longer you hear my voice, the more tired you get. It’s a simple ability, right?" Zera explained.
The ability may not seem dangerous at first glance, however, once someone fell asleep they would be in a defenseless state.
"Damn it..."
Frustratingly, Sylvia fell on her knees.
Zera kept grinning until she shifted her attention to Belian.
Unfazed, he still stood there.
However, this time it seemed like he was moving his hands.
"..."
She narrowed her eyes, trying to understand what he was planning to do. But she only saw him moving his hands in a way as if he was about to pull a sword from his hip.
"Is he wrong in his head?" she wondered confusedly.
"!"
But she quickly widened her eyes again when she noticed something black appearing on his hip.
It was still just dark matter but it slowly took shape.
"..."
Sylvia looked back at him with half-open eyes.
Then, the dark matter manifested into a sword in its sheath.
"Huh?"
Zera was flabbergasted.
In just a single moment, Belian cut off her right arm.
Her arm fell to the ground.
However, it was strangely sizzling on the part where it was cut off until the arm began to melt from there.
"AAAAHH!" Zera let out a deafening scream.
It was not just a simple sword cut.
Smoke emitted from her.
She wanted to plug the wound with her other hand but the heat she felt from there was too great.
Zera continued to scream as she applied the small amount of darkness she could control on the wound.
"Haa... Haaa... Shit..."
She was out of breath after she took care of her wound.
Her hostile gaze was directed at Belian.
"I have heard stories about this relic..." she stated sternly.
"How unlucky is it for me to run into its newest wielder..." she added.
Belian was holding a long one-edged sword with a round cross-guard. The whole sword was black, but the sharp edge was chirpy and grey in many spots. In addition, the grip was covered in grey bandages, which were loose on the end.
"..."
Zera’s vision blurred whenever she looked at the blade.
"It’s the relic that melts everything it touches and everything that is in the direction of its slash." she said ominously.
Belian did not talk.
Small flames gathered around him.
"Lisa... We have to get away..." Sylvia said weakly as she was about to crawl away from her spot.
Lisa nodded her head.
"..."
Unconsciously, Zera took a few steps back while Belian walked over to her slowly.
"How come you’re not falling asleep...?!"
Not once did an enemy not show any signs of falling asleep after hearing her talk for so long.
Belian suddenly dashed to her and went for a vertical slash.
"!"
Zera jumped a great distance away from him.
"This lunatic..."
She floated in the air with her wings.
"I refuse to fall asleep here." Belian stated.
His tone was sharp and threatening.
"Not when a demon is standing in front of me."
He jumped into the air and even though he could not reach her, he was sure that his slash would reach her.
"!"
She swiftly dodged the incoming heat wave, which could melt her body.
"No matter what happens to my body, no matter how tired I am, no matter what happens to my surroundings..."
He landed on the ground and immediately retracted his sword for another attack.
"My determination to kill you all will push me forward!" he said vigorously and filled with utter hatred.
From beneath, he launched a diagonal slash.
Zera flew away from the hitting range, however, she was not left unscathed.
"Hrnghhhh!"
She clenched her teeth in order to suppress her scream.
With a splatting sound, her left foot landed on the ground.
And just like her right arm, it began to melt.
Wrathfully, Zera clenched her left fist.
"I will kill you before you can spout any more nonsense." she declared intimidatingly.
Sylvia and Lisa were now a good amount of distance away from the battle.
"..."
Lisa already fell asleep, whereas Sylvia was barely awake.
She wanted and had to stay awake so that she could see how the match would unfold. frёewebnoѵēl.com
Furthermore, she had to be prepared for the worst-case scenario.
In the meantime, Mika and his team were at a place farther from Belian and the rest, who were fighting near the academy’s entrance door.
"How long do you intend to run away?" Clara, another demon on par with Zera, asked without emotions.
Mika, Harik and Rachel stopped in their tracks.
"I guess this place should do." Mika stated, after looking around.
They were located somewhere behind the academy, in other words north from the academy.
Clara, who was flying after them, landed on the ground gracefully.
"Are you prepared?" Mika asked the other two with a nervous smile.
"Yes." the two replied tensely.
Mika drew his rusty sword.
[1 minute and 17 seconds left.]
Sensing that the opponent was somewhat on the same level as Zantar, a B-rank demon, Mika decided to get serious from the get-go.
[The fourth installment was successful.]
