Chapter 118: Monster Parade

"Sara, where are you going?! The exit is in the south!" Yarjak shouted from the back.

"Hehe... In times like these, we have to create our own paths!" Sara laughed suspiciously as she was running at the front.

"What are you blabbering about now?"

The Tiam siblings departed from their initial spot and headed to the east gate. However, the academy of Loogam was surrounded by a wall and only had one entrance, which was in the south.

The walls were so high that it was not possible to just jump or climb over them.

"..."

Sara took a glance to the back.

Aside from the siblings, teachers from other years and first-year students followed them.

She shifted her gaze to the teachers.

"..."

As they kept on running, they passed the dorms and eventually arrived in front of the wall.

"Just what are you thinking this time again?" Yarjak wondered exhaustedly.

"We only need to follow this path and we will arrive at the east gate right away."

"What path?"

Then, Sara turned with a playful grin to the teachers, who were gasping for air.

Yarjak tilted his head in confusion when his little sister went over to them and seemingly said something to them.

"W-what?!"

"D-did I hear you right...?"

The teachers’ jaws dropped.

"Yes!" Sara responded with an innocent and bright smile.

"Now then... We don’t have any time to waste!" Sara declared smilingly as she pointed her hand to the wall.

"You can’t be serious..." Yarjak muttered taken aback, understanding her intentions.

The teachers reluctantly summoned their element in their hands.

"Destroy the wall!" Sara stated.

"H-huuuh?"

Even the students were taken aback by that abrupt decision.

And the next thing they knew was that a loud and big explosion caused the wall to crumble.

Everyone was coughing due to the dust.

"Let’s go, everyone!" Sara shouted as she was already on the move.

"Wasn’t there another way?" Yarjak asked with a sigh.

"I don’t have the time to think about another method if I know that the first method will do the same trick." Sara returned a sigh.

"..."

Her brother just looked at her side dumbfoundedly.

"Anyways, can I ask you for a favor, Bro?"

"What is it now?"

"Our lodging must be somewhere here. Could you please go there and fetch my sword?"

"..."

At first, he was not happy that his little sister commanded him.

"Got it."

But in this situation, he had to obey. After all, he knew what she was capable of.

Thus, he left the group and headed in a slightly other direction.

"!"

When the group led by Sara was coming closer to the east gate, everyone heard the roars of different kinds of monsters.

Especially, the first-year students got more and more anxious.

In the beginning, they, too, wanted to stay somewhere safe.

However, their pride as students of Loogam would not let it slide if they hid behind the backs of people, who were not affiliated with the academy or the nation.

Therefore, they offered their help even if it meant risking their lives.

"?"

Their destination was almost in sight but at the same time, they noticed sparks in the air and a heat coming from there.

It got brighter until they realized that the gate and the buildings near it were in flames.

"What the..."

Even Sara, who was most of the time carefree, was shocked by the sight.

Aside from the flames, the buildings were completely destroyed, people were still running for their lives, there were puddles of blood, the cries of children searching for their parents and obviously monsters.

But not just a couple of them.

It was an entire army of monsters.

The gate was destroyed, allowing the monsters to flood in.

There were monsters with the appearance of a lion, wolf, deer, bear, snakes, insects and other kinds.

Furthermore, there were also monsters flying in the air, resembling for example an eagle, a hawk and a bat.

"..."

Sara squinted her eyes as she looked up at the bats.

"These are bats, however..."

If one looked closely enough, one would recognize another kind among the bats.

"Demons...!"

There were two demons flying around the east gate.

"F-finally! Reinforcements!"

An injured student approached them.

Sara rushed to him and gave him support as he could barely stand straight.

"Everything’s fine now. We’re here to aid you." she comforted the injured student.

"Th-there are way too many...!"

Traumatized, the student gave a report.

"A-almost everyone died...!"

Sara’s expression turned stern.

"Get him somewhere safe." she ordered someone from her group.

And as that person was carried away, she turned everyone else.

"Teachers, can you keep the demons in check? I will join you the moment I’m done with my preparations." Sara suggested sternly.

The teachers nodded nervously.

Only four teachers were present.

For them, it was also their first time facing a demon, however, given the situation they were in they had to do it.

There was no way that they could turn tail while their own students were fighting.

And as they were all teachers at Loogam, they were all S-rank mages.

"Good."

Sara turned to the students.

"In the meantime, we will take care of the monsters."

"..."

The students were struck by fear.

In that situation, facing a demon may have been worse but taking care of a monster army was also scary.

"Nobody will judge so I will ask you one last time. Do you want to fight? Or do you want to head to the shelter which is protected by the headmaster?"

Their bodies still shivered but they bit their lips.

"I-I want to fight!"

"M-me too!"

"I w-want to protect Loogam!"

More and more students voiced their opinions.

And surprisingly, no one ran away.

Sara smiled.

"Then, I, Sara Tiam, crown princess of Grat, will lead you to victory!" she proclaimed confidently.

"Now form groups among yourselves! Exchange your combat styles! Coordinate yourselves with other groups! And then, eliminate the monsters!" Sara shouted.

The students and teachers roared.

It was a plain strategy.

Sara knew that, too.

It was her brother, who was more fit for such a task.

She was just good with the sword.

"After me!"

Thus, Sara charged in with the students and teachers following her.

The strength of the monsters varied.

There were some low, middle and high-ranking monsters amongst them.

Taking care of the low-ranking monsters did not pose a problem, however, for the students, it began to get challenging when they encountered a middle-ranked monster. freёwebnovel.com

"Don’t panic! Your teammates will have your backs!" Sara shouted as she fought off some monsters.

Sara engulfed her hands in a thin water layer.

And every time a monster was in sight, she swiftly killed it by cutting off their heads with a chop.

"That girl seems interesting. Let’s play with her!" one of the two demons said.

It was a boy, who seemed the same age as the students.

He was sitting alongside another demon on the roof of a partly destroyed house near the east gate.

His long black hair was slicked back.

He wore black pants and just a long black jacket, which was not buttoned up, revealing his upper body.

"..."

The other demon sighed.

"It’s amazing that you can’t even recognize the situation we’re in, Tupis."

That demon was a girl, also looking the same age as students.

Her hair was short and spiky and she wore a dark red skirt paired with black boots.

She covered her upper body with a black long-sleeved shirt.

"Tch! Can you stop nagging, Toyo?"

"Shut up and look in front of us."

The four teachers were standing on the roof of a house across from the two.

"Why are you so scared, Toyo? I alone can handle them." Tupis declared as he shrugged his shoulders.

"Don’t get cocky just because you got promoted to B-rank before me." Toyo replied with a sharp glare.

"You’re so scary, Ms. C-rank~" he acted scared.

"Uff!"

Tupis received a blow to the stomach from Toyo.

"Let’s take them on seriously."

"F-fine..."

And while the nervous teachers took up their fighting stances, the first-year students fought back the rampaging monsters with all their might.

"Argh!"

"Kyaa!"

"?!"

Sara turned her head to the screams.

She had a panicked look when she saw students falling and coloring the ground underneath them with their blood.

"Uwaah!"

"Ahh!"

More students received fatal wounds and fell.

She shifted her head wildly to each group of students with a worried face.

"!"

The roar of a monster snapped her back to reality.

It was hammering its fists on her but she managed to dodge just in time.

"Haa... Haa..."

She gasped for air when she jumped on a nearby roof, which was about to break down.

The screams of dying monsters and of falling students got mixed together and repeated in her mind.

"Calm down, Sara."

"!"

Sara flinched before she turned around.

"B-brother..."

Yarjak returned with something long covered in cloth in his hands.

"Don’t make such a face. As a leader, you mustn’t waver nor regret your decisions."

"B-but so many are-"

"Leave it to me."

"Huh?"

"Don’t you remember? We are the crown prince and princess because our skills were acknowledged."

"I excel in fields like diplomacy and strategies, however, you shine the most on the battlefield." he added with a comforting smile.

He handed her over the thing he brought with him.

"Take this."

Sara silently grabbed the item.

"And now show them why you’re called the sword prodigy."
