Chapter 110: Final Match
"Sylvia? What happened to you?" Belian asked baffled.
While he waited for his other classmates beside the arena, he noticed Syliva, who was covered in bruises and dirt, coming.
"I’ve found Mika..." she said, grasping for air.
"Wha- Where was he?"
"Let’s talk later..."
"In just a couple of minutes, the final match will begin so please take your seats!" the announcer declared from inside.
"Oh, right. I apologize."
Belian made way for Sylvia, who was initially heading to the resting hall.
Before the match started, she wanted to drink a healing and stamina potion.
"I will tell the others that Mika was found."
Sylvia nodded her head once before she continued to walk.
"We will be watching the two of you." Belian added.
She only raised her hand and waved back.
A few minutes later.
Lily was already doing some stretches on the battlefield as she waited for Sylvia to emerge from the back exit.
Sylvia, however, was still in the resting hall, gulping down the potions after washing her face.
The bruises slowly faded away thanks to the healing potion and the stamina potion helped her regain her stamina for a certain amount of time.
In addition, she took the magic potion to refill her magic.
"I guess, I’m ready to go now..." she muttered to herself confidently after exhaling deeply.
Thus, she headed to the arena.
All seats were taken or reserved. The arena was full.
"You mentioned once that you were their guide, right?" Olivia directed the question to Ophelia.
"Yes, but just once. Their potential was remarkable so I’m curious how much they improved in the timespan I was away." Ophelia replied with a smile as she leaned forward a little.
"I suppose, you’re rooting for Lily, right, Bro?" Sara teased Yarjak while nudging him with her elbow.
"..."
He remained silent in order to hide his embarrassment.
At the same time, Belian was sitting with Harik and Rachel, who just joined him.
"Well, I’m glad that Mika was found. But where is he now?" Harik wondered. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com
"..."
Rachel was scanning the people, hoping to find Mika.
"I don’t know, but I have the feeling that he will be here soon."
"Of course he will. You have your match today after all!" Harik laughed.
"Excuse me, are you perhaps talking about Mika Elbar?"
"?"
Rachel turned to her right, where a beautiful and young-looking woman was sitting.
"Yes, do you know him?"
"Hmm... You could say I happened to bump into him once." she replied with a smile.
"..."
Rachel narrowed her eyes.
"You resemble someone I know..."
"Maybe you’re talking about Lily?"
"!"
She widened her eyes.
"Are you her sister?"
The woman giggled.
"Thanks for the compliment but I’m actually her mother."
"Huh?"
It was Lena, who sat beside Rachel.
Harik raised his eyebrows.
"M-mother?"
He could not believe it, based on her young appearance.
"Don’t let looks deceive you." Belian stated sternly.
But in reality, he was shocked, too.
A few rows behind them.
"Just why are we sitting together again?" Lisa asked annoyedly with crossed arms and legs.
"Jeez, don’t be so cold to me. You’re the only person I know here." Xander replied, acting heartbroken.
"Shouldn’t it be your turn to watch the eastern gate?"
"The others will be able to handle it without me."
"How irresponsible..." she muttered with a frown.
The crowd raised its voice.
"Looks like she’s coming out." Belian stated, looking in the direction of the back exit.
"Oh~! Sylvia Pyril appeared just in time! Only one minute left until we can finally kick off the match!" the announcer said excitedly.
"By the way, you fought those two once, right? How strong did they become?" Rachel asked.
"Compared to the beginning of the term, they improved at terrifying speed." Belian replied.
"Especially Lily. It would be no exaggeration to say that she’s at least on par with us." Harik added.
"What? Just what did they do to get so strong so fast?"
"That’s what we would like to know as well."
"I don’t know if I should say this with her mother right beside us but Lily is a monster." Harik whispered into Rachel’s ear.
"Because she’s gotten so strong?"
"It’s not a simple matter of getting stronger."
Harik sighed.
"Truth be told, on that day I lost against her." Harik admitted sternly.
"W-wait-"
"Now then! I won’t let you wait any longer! I think everyone is at least as excited as I am, right? Well, let’s get this match started then!" the announcer raised his voice.
The crowd cheered.
Then, Lily and Sylvia walked over to each other.
And as they shook their hands, Syliva talked to Lily.
"I’ve found Mika."
Obviously, Lily was happy to hear that as she enlarged her eyes.
"Really?!"
"Yes, therefore we can now focus on this match." Sylvia said excitedly with a smirk.
Lily responded with her smile.
"But naturally! I lost the match back then before we headed to our first quest, however, this time I will emerge as the winner." she stated confidently.
"Heh, we will see about that."
The two let go and created some distance between them.
At the same time, those watching began to bet on the winner.
"I think Sylia will win." Belian said.
"I go with Lily." Harik replied.
"I think the same as Harik." Rachel agreed.
"I will root for my daughter!"
"Who do you think will win? It would be an upset if she would win but I guess Sylvia will win." Xander stated.
"Then, I will go with Lily as my pick." Lisa said.
"What are your bets? I pick Lily." Olivia directed the question to everyone in the VIP lounge.
"If I had to choose, then I’d pick Sylvia." Ophelia said.
"Lily." Yarjak muttered.
"Sylvia!" Sara shouted.
"Hmm... I go with that Lily person." Norman concluded.
"What about you two?" Olivia asked Lereon and Elsa.
"Heh, do you have to ask? If you go with that person, then I will go with the other person." Elsa huffed mockingly.
"I, too, pick Sylvia." Lereon admitted.
According to these people, 6 voted for Sylvia and 7 for Lily.
[Their match is about to start. Do you have a winner in mind?]
"..."
Mika, who was still on his way to the arena, was thinking.
"I would usually choose Sylvia."
Back to the arena.
"As this is the final match, the rules will be adjusted a little! From now on, there will be no time limit, meaning that one can only lose by either losing consciousness, admitting defeat or by getting deemed as unable to fight by us!" the announcer elaborated.
"But enough talking now! Let’s countdown together!"
"10!"
Thus, the crowd began to count from 10.
Both Lily and Sylvia took deep breaths.
"9!"
It was not like both of them had nothing to gain from this match.
Both of them wanted to win eagerly.
"8!"
For Lily, winning here meant that she got one step closer to her goal.
Sylvia may have not a grand dream like Sylvia but not once in her life did she think that losing was fine.
She, too, wanted to get stronger.
Knowing that a relic would be eventually granted to the winner, her motivation reached new heights.
"7!"
Furthermore, she could not go easy against Lily as doing otherwise would be disrespectful.
"6!"
Sylvia had to sort out her mind.
She wanted to concentrate solely on the match but the thought of the demon occupied her mind.
"5!"
How did they manage to get here?
Are there perhaps more?
Why did they kidnap Mika?
"4!"
Should she do something against the demons?
Was she allowed to enjoy this match despite having those thoughts?
"3!"
Everyone was watching.
And yet, she was able to remain calm.
"2!"
The image of somebody flashed in her mind.
"I don’t know why but I feel reassured with you around." she huffed quietly with her eyes still closed.
"1!"
Her mind was clear now as she opened her eyes.
"Aaaand staaaart!" the announcer gave the signal.
The area around Lily began to get hot and dry, whereas around Sylvia cold fog assembled again.
The two girls each retracted an arm.
And with quick movements, they swung their arms forward.
The people did not understand what was happening until they heard a loud sound.
In an instant, a big and half-frozen fireball was in the middle of the field.
The ice side shattered while the lit side slowly extinguished.
"Amazing... So this is their true power...?" Lena stated impressed.
"No, they’re just starting." Belian said.
"Just look at them go at each other..." Harik shook his head with a smile on his face.
"They’re like unchained beasts." Rachel commented indifferently.
"Yes... This is how it should be..." Sylvia muttered.
"Even more..." Lily murmured.
The temperature around them changed accordingly.
"Your sphere can hold out those attacks, right, Mr. Arma?" Cindy asked concernedly with a wry smile.
"Hey, who do you think you’re talking to?! Mr. Arma’s spheres are perfect!" Erwin answered offendedly.
"..."
Ralph remained silent, only smiling at the two students.
However, he was not the only one smiling.
"This..."
"...is..."
Lily and Sylvia finally had a stage for themselves, where they could go all out against each other without worrying about their surroundings.
"...fun!" the two said simultaneously.
And their wide grins showed that their battle lust had completely taken over them.
