Chapter 111: Fire And Ice: Part 2
The crowd was cheering hysterically.
"..."
"..."
Without an exchange of words, Sylvia and Lily kept grinning at each other.
Then, Lily pushed her palm forward, unleashing a firebeam at Sylvia.
Due to its size, Sylvia had to jump to the side. She pushed herself off the ground with her hands and spun in the air. And during her hand contact with the ground, ice appeared on the spot.
That frozen spot widened and after a short time, multiple thin and peaky icicles emerged from there, heading to Lily.
But just like Syliva, Lily dodged, too.
Sylvia was lowering her body temperature again, just like in her match during the fifth round.
However, Lily knew that technique and she also knew that Sylvia needed time to execute it. Thus, she had to keep on attacking her in order to not give her enough time.
Lily was sure that the moment Sylvia used her technique, her chances of winning would drop tremendously.
With that in mind, Lily balled a fist with just the index and middle finger pointed at Sylvia, which were in flames.
Then, Lily shot many small fire projectiles at Sylvia.
In response, Sylvia created a thick ice wall, through which the fire projectiles could not pierce through.
Still, the ice wall started to melt at the front as more and more projectiles kept hitting it.
Sylvia shaped an ice spear and jumped up and backward.
She looked at Lily and then threw the spear at her.
But again, Lily dodged.
She ran towards her while gathering flames in both hands.
When those flames took the shapes of balls, Lily threw them simultaneously at Sylvia.
Sylvia shifted her gaze from the left to the right as the fireballs approached her from those sides. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ
Around her hands cold emitted.
And the moment the fireballs closed in on her, she spread her arms to the sides.
The fireballs were frozen and shattered on the brink of a second.
However, Lily was already right in front of her, initiating close combat.
With ablaze hands, Lily threw a straight punch at Sylvia.
"Tch..."
She evaded that attack barely as her cheek got slightly burned.
Sylvia dodged a couple more attacks until she counterattacked.
She hunched over and swept her feet away from the ground, making her fall.
But Lily rolled to the back smoothly and lifted her face immediately.

She widened her eyes when she saw Sylvia putting her hand on the ground.
Instinctively, she put up her hands to the front with her open palms facing Sylvia.
The flames were concentrated on her palms, however, before the crowd could see what she intended to do, enormous ice spikes emerged from the spot Sylvia was touching.
Those ice spikes were so large that at least a half of the field was covered in ice. Furthermore, they reached up to the highest seats in the arena.
"Haa..."
Sylvia’s breathing was ragged. Sweat started to stream down her face.
"How strange..." she muttered exhausted.
"Usually, I could have output a lot more..." she added, looking at the ice spikes.
Suddenly, something in her field of vision lit up.
"?"
Even though the ice spikes covered so much space, there was no ice in the middle lane.
After all, Lily, who was standing in the middle, protected herself from the attack by focusing heat on her palms, having melt the spikes, which were heading towards her.
However, she was not able to come out unscratched as her clothes were tattered up and as her body was covered in many cuts, where blood was flowing out.
She, too, was slowly getting out of breath as she let her arms fall tiredly.
The ice shattered.
"..."
Sylvia began to take deep breaths as if she was trying to focus.
"Jeez... I suppose, I can neither muster up the focus nor the magic to use that technique..." she muttered with a self-deprecating smirk.
She shrugged her shoulders.
And then, in her hand a sword out of ice appeared.
This time, she was the one to initiate the offense, thus she leaped to the exhausted Lily.
She swung the sword vertically from above.
"..."
Lily rolled to the side to dodge it, however, Sylvia followed up and managed to land a cut on her stomach.
"Hrngh...!"
The cut was shallow but the wound slowly began to freeze.
She placed her hand on the ice, trying to melt it with her heat before it spread more and more.
But Sylvia was not lenient enough to let her do as she pleased and followed her.
She tried to cut her in from different angles and every time, Lily managed to evade critical hits.
However, she still received a lot of cuts, which in turn also began to freeze.
"..."
She narrowed her gaze when Sylvia closed in again.
She went for a horizontal slash but this time, Lily evaded it completely by hunching down.
Copying her previous movement, Lily tried to sweep her feet from the ground but seemingly in vain as Sylvia jumped up.
"Got you..." Lily muttered confidently.
Her leg sweep left behind a trail of fire, which appeared like a circle.
As Sylvia was about to land on the ground again, the circle illuminated.
Lily jumped away and with the flick of her fingers, a fire pillar emerged, engulfing Sylvia completely.
"Haa... Haa..."
Lily got on her knee as she desperately grasped for air.
She, too, was surprised by the low output of her attack.
"What’s wrong with me today...?" she murmured confusedly.
The fire pillar dispersed.
Instead, Sylvia, who had burn marks all over her body, was barely standing straight.
Her ice sword melted down.
She slowly approached Lily, who was trying to get up.
On her way, she attempted to cool her body, however, she failed as she did not have enough magic anymore.
Meanwhile, Lily also failed to engulf her arms in flames, having also no magic left.
Nonetheless, the two staggered towards each other.
They both raised their fists and then punched each other in the face.
As a result, both tumbled backward.
"Haaa!" they yelled vigorously as they followed up with the same pattern.
They threw a punch.
They got hit.
They staggered even more.
Those two repeated that pattern numerous times.
But after countless punches, Sylvia was able to catch Lily’s fist.
With all her struggle, she held onto it.
"...?"
Lily sensed her fist getting colder.
However, that cold was not threatening and rather comfortable.
Thus, she used the opportunity and punched her with her other hand.
She tried to create flames again but nothing but tiny sparkles came out.
"Why..."
Lily clenched her fists tightly.
She approached Sylvia.
The crowd turned silent.
Under normal circumstances, the match should have been already over as 10 minutes have already passed.
But the final match was still ongoing with the sound of punches echoing in the arena.
However, it was at that moment when something akin to a closure was happening.
"!"
The two girls hit each other in the face at the same time and were both about to fall on their backs.
"I won’t lose...!"
Sylvia regained her composure, trying to stop her fall.
But her vision was hazy and she had the urge to just close her eyes.
It was only her desire to win that kept her conscious.
Lily knew that and therefore used up all her energy to follow up.
"..."
With almost closed eyes, Sylvia still recognized the silhouette of Lily, who raised her hand.
But she did not know that Lily was in danger.
Blood flowed out of her eyes and mouth as she attempted to summon flames in her hand again.
Lily’s mind was blank.
Only the desire to win was pushing her forward.
Thus, even though she no could no longer use magic, she still tried it.
She wanted to use more magic than she could.
However, her body showed signs that she should cease that idea.
"..."
Sylvia closed her eyes as she let her body fall.
Still, Lily did not take notice of this and continued.
The closer she came to creating flames again, the more blood gushed out.
"Stop it."
"!"
Lily snapped back to reality.
She saw Erwin taking on a protective stand while holding the unconscious Sylvia in his arms.
"It’s over, Lily."
Lily turned her head to the side, seeing her teacher, Cindy, grabbing her arm.
Cindy smiled gently as she was stopping Lily.
The crowd remained silent.
The teachers may have interfered, however, the winner was decided before they arrived.
"Who-"
Lily also fainted and fell into Cindy’s arms before she could even finish her sentence.
It was the biggest upset in this tournament.
The people were astonished by the outcome.
Even those, who bet for her, were surprised.
"T-the winner i-is Lily Hayth from the r-red class!" the announcer stuttered in shock.
And with that match, the jury came to the same agreement.
Starting next term, the student Lily Hayth, who started out as a B-rank, would be a part of the white class.
