Chapter 109: Hostage
Less than an hour was left before the finals would start.
While Sylvia was scouting the southeast side of the capital, Lily was wandering around in the northeast.
Just like Sylvia, Lily was looking in every direction as she ran aimlessly around.
However, she stopped in her tracks as soon as a familiar figure entered her field of vision.
Xander.
"X-Xander, wait...!"
It may have been her first time calling him out on her own.
"Hm?"
He turned to her.
"Aren’t you that girl who’s always on that Mika’s side?"
"Y-yes!"
"What do you want from me then?"
Like every other time she saw him, he was in a foul mood.
"H-have you perhaps seen Mika? He’s missing since yesterday and it’s said that the last thing he did was to search for you..." she explained nervously.
"No idea. Haven’t seen him yet." he replied bluntly, bumping into her shoulder as he continued walking.
"But-"
"Maybe he ran away from Loogam, scared of the incoming match against me." he joked.
Lily had a slight frown.
"..."
She deemed it pointless to ask a person like Xander. Thus, she continued her search for a little longer.
Meanwhile, two people were in a deserted one-story building, which was poorly managed, located in an area, almost void from citizens.
A person with a coat on was talking to himself, whereas the other person, who was tied to a chair, only listened.
"Why is that idiot taking so long...?! I only allowed him to go outside for 30 minutes!" the coat-wearing person lamented while walking in circles.
"..."
The other person had bruises all over his face with trails of blood on his mouth and nose.
"Hey." he called out the furious person in a mocking manner.
"Why don’t you tell me now who you are and what you’re planning to do?"
The coat-wearing person walked over to him.
"Huh? And just why should I do that?"
Then, the person kicked him in the stomach multiple times, venting out the frustration.
"Hrng... I’m going to die either way, right...? That’s what your friend told me yesterday when I was sent here..." he said with a strained voice.
But his, Mika’s, mocking smirk did not vanish.
"Tch! That imbecile!"
He turned around and walked away.
[How long do you plan on playing a hostage? I assessed that person’s power and concluded that it would be easy for you to free yourself and to neutralize that person.]
"That’s true. However, I have a bad feeling about all of this." Mika muttered sternly.
[Bad feeling, you say?]
"These two are demons, right?"
After Mika’s encounter with Xander, he lost consciousness for a moment.
The next thing he knew was that he was tied to this chair and that there were two coat-wearing people keeping an eye on him.
Obviously, Mika could have freed himself and fought back, however, he could tell immediately that those two were not humans.
[So you knew, huh?]
"It seems like I got an eye for demons recently."
[...]
Currently, only one of them was watching Mika as the other one was apparently outside, taking a small stroll out of boredom.
Unfortunately for Mika, the one who went outside was also the one who presented him with the most information.
"I still need information..."
Mika only knew a few things at this point in time.
Firstly, Xander was involved in this case, as well as demons.
Secondly, Mika was not killed yet because someone else intended to do that.
And thirdly, the two demons were waiting for a group.
"How about we chat? It’s boring here, you know?" Mika suggested relaxed.
"..."
The demon turned around again after walking up and down.
"You sure got guts. Most people would cry and despair."
He approached Mika.
"What do you want to talk about?"
"Your partner mentioned that there’s someone out there desiring my head. Who’s that?" Mika asked.
"..."
He grabbed Mika by his collar.
"Do you think I’m stupid? I’ve already seen through you!"
The demon violently pushed Mika away before distancing himself from him again.
"Tch..." Mika clicked his tongue silently.
"Guess, I have to wait a little longer..."
[I would not recommend that.]
"Why not?"
[It is correct that soon other people will appear here. However, if they are here, then the chances of you escaping or even surviving are zero percent.]
"So you think I should escape while I have the chance to do so?"
Mika sounded exhausted and also a bit annoyed by the thought of running away.
He had to bear with their beating and insults just so he could eventually get some information out of them.
And now he had to escape without really satisfying results.
For him, it seemed like his act was in vain.
[Furthermore, the match between those girls is about to begin.]
"Ah, right! I forgot!"
He was excited.
[And after them, your match will be held.]
"Oh... I forgot, too..." freewёbn૦νeɭ.com
But then, his expression turned into a disappointed one.
"Well... How should I do this as fast as possible...?"
Mika was analyzing the surroundings and the demon, who turned his back on him.
"?"
However, Mika stopped doing so when he noticed the presence of someone familiar.
A sudden bang echoed inside the building as enormous icicles crashed through the side of the building.
At the same time, a body fell to the ground and slid on it as if it was a stone, which was flicked across water.
"What the-"
The one, watching over Mika, was naturally shocked by this sudden turn of events as he rushed to the now lifeless body of his partner.
"Another one...?"
It was Sylvia, who jumped down.
Her breathing was ragged and she had a few bruises on her.
"!"
However, after she saw the other coat-wearing person, she noticed Mika.
"Sylvia? What are you doing here? Isn’t your match about to start?!"
"Everyone is searching for you that’s why I landed here." she explained as she cut off the ropes on Mika.
"Thanks..."
Mika got up.
"!"
His body flinched strongly for a second.
"What’s wrong?" Sylvia asked concerned.
"N-nothing... Everything’s fine..." Mika tried to sound fine.
However, his body ached in all kinds of spots after he was finally freed.
[Seems like they did not hold back with their attacks.]
"You... I don’t know who you are but I will kill you first!" the other demon stated vigorously as he leaped to Sylvia.
"..."
Sylvia was gritting her teeth.
She may have been able to kill the other demon, however, she was nearing her limits and considering that she had a match soon, she did not want to exert too much stamina.
"Die-"
But to the surprise of everyone present, Mika drew Excalibur out of nothing and slashed the demon horizontally in half.
Sylvia widened her eyes at his changed appearance.
And not only that but also the fact that he just killed a demon in one go was shocking.
Mika swung his sword to spill the blood from his blade.
Following that, his appearance turned back again.
[10 seconds were consumed. Not bad.]
"W-what happened to you...?" Sylvia asked flabbergasted.
"Let’s talk later. We have to get away from here soon."
"O-oh... S-sure..."
Thus, the two left from there, leaving behind the corpses of the two demons.
The two were running, however, Mika had trouble with his body.
"..."
He had a painful expression as he ran even though his entire body still ached.
"Sylvia..."
"?"
She turned her head to him.
"I remembered that I still have to do something... Go on without me..." he said as he forced a smile. ƒrēewebnovel.com
"..."
She stood still and narrowed her gaze.
Then, she sighed.
"Don’t take too long."
Thus, she left him, knowing fully well that there was nothing she could do to help him.
[What is your plan now?]
"First things first, I will report to them about this incident." Mika stated sternly.
[Can you even walk with all that pain?]
"Heh! Those injuries won’t stop me! I’ll just drink a healing and stamina potion in the resting hall later!"
Mika headed staggeringly to the arena at his own pace.
In the meantime, the person, who was pulling other people on a cart, arrived at the destination.
"What happened here...?" one of the people wondered as one after another jumped off the cart.
The building’s wall was destroyed by grand icicles and on the ground were two corpses.
"Tch. Those fools..."
"Are the ones, who did that, still in the vicinity?"
"I don’t know. I couldn’t sense them even if I wanted to."
"Shit! As long as we have to wear these damn coats, we can’t sense anything!"
"Well, on the other hand, they can’t sense us, too."
Everyone left the cart now.
"Anyways, we’re finally here now."
"Hehe... How long have I waited for this moment..."
"So? When will we strike?"
"Be patient."
"According to him, everything’s set this afternoon when the last match concludes."
"Ah, right, there’s a tournament, right?"
"Let’s go and watch then! With those coats, no one will recognize us!"
Some of them sighed.
"Well, that’s better than waiting here..."
Therefore, the group moved again.
This time, their destination was the arena.
