Chapter 30: Chapter 22: BMW Bro Feng Yuan, Big Shot Brother Cheng

Jiang Li was genuinely angry now. Guo Yao could talk trash about her, but she drew the line at Shen Yanzhi.

How dare she call Shen Yanzhi an old man!

Even if Shen Yanzhi really were an old man, he’d still be the most handsome one!

Guo Yao, on the other hand, immediately shot up and slammed her hand on the table. "Jiang Li, how can you be so vicious?! Spreading lies about me!"

Jiang Li’s expression hardened. "Weren’t you the one who started spreading rumors about me?"

Guo Yao retorted self-righteously, "If you hadn’t married some old man, where would you have gotten all this money?"

Jiang Li sneered. "You must think everyone’s like you, being kept by some old man."

Guo Yao was currently living off her father, so the jab wasn’t technically wrong.

Zhong Mufeng chimed in. "Exactly. People just assume everyone else is just like them."

Zheng Qi nodded in agreement. "Some people spread rumors out of jealousy back in school, and now that we’ve graduated, they’re still just as jealous."

Just then, the door to the private room slid open, and a robot pushing a cart slowly rolled in, preventing the scene from escalating further.

"Times are really changing fast. They even have robots serving the food now."

"Tell me about it. I was pretty startled when the robot came to lead us to the room earlier."

"At this rate, AI will probably replace humans in the future."

And just like that, the topic shifted, and the tense atmosphere dissipated.

Jiang Li turned and tugged on Zhong Mufeng’s sleeve, whispering, "So why does Guo Yao have it out for me so much?"

It wasn’t as if she had committed some unforgivable sin, but Guo Yao insisted on targeting only her.

Zhong Mufeng raised an eyebrow. "She has a crush on your Shen. Back in the day, he was closest with you, so who do you think she’s going to hate?"

Jiang Li didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. "Seriously? It’s been years. Is she still carrying a torch for him?"

Zhong Mufeng chuckled softly. "You liked him for years, so why can’t she?"

Then she added accusingly, "That’s a complete double standard—rules for thee but not for me."

Jiang Li’s interest was suddenly piqued. "Do you think she’d burst into tears of rage if she found out Shen Yanzhi and I got married?"

Zhong Mufeng picked up her glass and took a sip of water. "I don’t know if she’d be angry enough to cry, but I do know that if you drop that bombshell, Guo Yao will put you on her permanent assassination list."

Jiang Li’s lips twitched. ’We live in a society ruled by law, but if you push someone too far, they really might do something illegal.’

She couldn’t help but shiver. Raising her index finger to Zhong Mufeng’s lips, she said, "Alright, that’s enough."

They had ordered over a hundred dishes in total, and the entire table was packed to the brim, without a single gap in sight.

The only thing was, the portions weren’t very generous. The plates were massive, but the garnishes took up half the space.

Jiang Li couldn’t help but click her tongue. ’Other than the beautiful plating, I have no idea what makes this place worth 100,000 yuan per person. Is it the robots that serve the food? Businessmen really are all sharks, only caring about squeezing money out of ordinary people, not about benefiting humanity. I was hesitant about whether to acquire this place before, but now, I’m determined to fix this mess.’

Guo Yao had originally been sitting several seats away from Jiang Li. But after being rebuffed, and with the topic of conversation having shifted, she had swapped seats with a few other classmates until she ended up right at Jiang Li’s left side.

Just as Jiang Li was resolving to whip this place into shape, she suddenly heard Guo Yao’s smug voice. "Jiang Li, don’t get all high and mighty just because you were close to Shen Yanzhi in school. He’s a married man now, and too bad for you, the bride wasn’t you."

Jiang Li turned to look at Guo Yao beside her, her expression darkening. "You say that as if you were the bride."

’I’m only holding back because I’m afraid of provoking her too much, otherwise I’d whip out my marriage certificate right now. Oh, right, a photo of the certificate. Shen Yanzhi took the real one after we registered and took the picture.’

Guo Yao scoffed. "At least I’m single. Unlike you, a married woman with no prospects."

Jiang Li silently rolled her eyes. ’What was there to be so competitive about? The woman is nuts.’

Just then, someone took out their BMW car keys. The man next to him immediately piped up, "Whoa, I heard you got a BMW M5. That must’ve cost over a million yuan, right?"

The man waved his hand dismissively. "Nah, just 1.45 million. It’s nothing to brag about."

"A 1.45-million-yuan car is ’nothing to brag about’? Then what does that make those of us who drive cars worth tens or a hundred thousand? Scrap metal?"

"I know, right? I had to take out a loan for my Toyota. It’s true what they say: comparisons are odious."
