Chapter 31: Chapter 22: BMW Brother Feng Yuan, Big Shot Brother Cheng (2)

"Doesn’t everyone get a loan for a car? You have to buy a car, and a house too. Otherwise, you can’t even find a wife."

A sleazy smile touched the man’s lips. "So, you see? Buy a decent car, and do you think you’ll have trouble getting a girl’s number? Or finding a wife?"

With that, he turned to Jiang Li. "By the way, Miss Jiang, I remember the guy you were dating back then was Zhao Sinian, right? Did you marry him?"

Jiang Li’s eyes narrowed. "No."

"But you guys dated for so many years. Why’d you end up marrying someone else?"

The mere mention of Zhao Sinian’s name was enough to set Zhong Mufeng off. She immediately shot back, "You live by the sea or something? Why are you so damn nosy?"

The man clicked his tongue. "Miss Jiang herself hasn’t said a thing. Why are you getting so worked up?"

Guo Yao sneered, "An obedient dog has to protect its master, of course." She finished with a provocative eyebrow raise at Zhong Mufeng.

But to everyone’s surprise, Zhong Mufeng didn’t take the bait. "You bet. As far as I’m concerned, my Jiang Jiang will always be the most important person to me."

’If anyone had a rich bestie, forget being her dog, they’d even be willing to be a mistress.’

’Too bad Jiang Li doesn’t need one.’

’Sigh, I’m actually a total switch, you know. Top, bottom, I can do it all.’

’As long as it’s for Jiang Li.’

"I heard you haven’t dated anyone at all in the last few years. Don’t tell me..."

Her gaze shifted between Jiang Li and Zhong Mufeng. Even though she didn’t finish her sentence, everyone knew what Guo Yao was implying.

Zhong Mufeng retorted, "Isn’t that a stupid question? If I didn’t like her, why would we be friends?"

Jiang Li shrugged. "Maybe she doesn’t like her own friends."

Zhong Mufeng clapped a hand to her mouth in mock shock. "Huh?" she said, her tone dripping with sarcasm. "She has friends? I thought she only had minions!"

Guo Yao seethed. "The two of you are quite the double act, aren’t you!"

Zhong Mufeng batted her eyelashes innocently. "What double act? We’re just seeking the truth."

Seeing the conversation get derailed by Guo Yao, the man coughed twice to get everyone’s attention. "So, classmates, how’s everyone doing these days? Have you all bought cars and houses yet?"

"Buy what? My salary is only a few thousand a month. I’m lucky if I can even support myself."

"You guys are going to laugh, but I’m still in a place that costs 600 a month. Buying a car or a house is a distant dream for me."

"I’m just saying, who the hell is making all this money?! Because it sure feels like none of it is coming my way!"

"I remember you weren’t doing so well back in school. What have you been up to these past few years? You’re dressed so sharp, and you even bought a car worth over a million. If you found a way to strike it rich, don’t forget about us old classmates!"

The man puffed out his chest and adjusted his suit collar. "It’s no secret, really. I just followed a big shot’s lead on an investment project and made about half a ’small goal.’"

The man’s words had barely faded when another person shot up, strode over to him, half-knelt, and clasped his fists. "Godfather, please take me under your wing! Your son is so poor he can’t even afford to eat!"

The man quickly pulled him to his feet. "Don’t be like this. You’re putting me in a tough spot."

Zhong Mufeng leaned over to whisper, "Seriously? Are people actually falling for this?"

Jiang Li covered her mouth as she spoke. "Maybe that guy’s a shill? They’re probably just looking for some fat sheep to fleece."

’No one would be so open about a genuinely profitable venture. They’d keep it under wraps.’

’Besides, if you’ve earned half a ’small goal,’ why only buy a car that costs a little over a million? You’d buy a 911 at the very least.’

’Shen Yanzhi once said a 911 is every man’s dream car.’

Zhong Mufeng pursed her lips. "So that’s why we’re eating here. It was all a setup to fleece some sheep."

Jiang Li didn’t answer, simply tilting her chin towards the scene, signaling for Zhong Mufeng to sit back and watch the show.

"Yeah, that’s right! If you’ve got a profitable project, you should let your old classmates in on it. We go way back, why be so secretive?"

The man put on a troubled expression. "It’s not that I’m trying to keep it a secret. It’s just... someone else is the one who got me into this. I can’t just share the details without his permission."

"That’s simple! Call your big shot. I’ll do the talking."

’Jiang Li’s lip twitched. You didn’t often see a fat sheep so eager to hand over its money.’

’Still, it was understandable. When a classmate who used to be poor is suddenly successful, it’s only natural that others would want a piece of the pie.’

’It was just like those sellers on social media. You see other people making money, and you want to get in on it, too.’

’Then you find out you’re at the bottom of the food chain, with everyone above you sucking you dry, using your investment to build up their own success.’
