Chapter 78: Chapter 77: Still Think You Can Run?

Many people who saw the video at first all exclaimed, "Holy shit!" then chose not to believe it, firmly convinced it had to be special effects.

A few people with connections went to personally investigate the real situation at Cang City South Station. What they found completely shattered their worldview, leaving them desperate to understand what exactly was going on.

There were also some who had awakened a Sequence but remained hidden among the populace. Seeing the video only made them furrow their brows deeper as they muttered:

’So there’s a Sequencer that strong in the world... I really thought I was the protagonist.’

The Corpse High Priest outside naturally had no idea just how massive a reaction his attempted massacre had caused.

To him, such things were truly irrelevant.

After all, the Spiritual Sect had never intended to hide. It was only because the various factions within the Sect were at odds with one another, coupled with the leaders’ fear of the old-timers backing the special organizations, that the Spiritual Sect had been forced to remain in the shadows like rats.

Now that the existence of the Extraordinary had been exposed, the ones left scratching their heads would be the special organizations. It had absolutely nothing to do with him, the Corpse High Priest.

All he needed to consider now was how to capture Lu Anning.

Just then,

Lu Anning instantly swung her sword,

unleashing a gleaming white line of energy!

Though it was a far cry from the tens of thousands of white lines produced by Coach Su, this was a strike with all of Lu Anning’s strength. Accompanied by a loud VMMMM—, the white line instantly streaked through the air with the sound of a blade cleaving the wind, slashing toward the Corpse High Priest!

Just as the white line was about to reach the Corpse High Priest,

a large hand, wreathed in green sequence energy, grabbed it and instantly crushed it to powder.

BANG!

Amidst a crisp sound, the white line Lu Anning had unleashed was caught firmly in that hand. The moment it was seized, the large hand didn’t so much as ripple.

Then, as Lu Anning watched, the five fingers slowly closed. The white line she had unleashed was like something tossed into a shredder, completely ground to dust amidst a series of faint CRUNCHING sounds.

Her will to fight back was crushed to dust along with it.

Just as Lu Anning took an involuntary step back, preparing to turn and run, she suddenly bumped into a rock-solid chest. She couldn’t help but turn her head, and was met with the sight of Su Xing’s handsome face and the sound of his gentle voice.

"Fall back for now."

"Don’t worry. I’ll take it from here."

Lu Anning knew perfectly well how strong the old man before her was. She didn’t waste a single word and immediately retreated.

Su Xing stood in front of Lu Anning, his eyes locked on the Corpse High Priest. The power his opponent had displayed was not to be underestimated. He had easily leaped to the roof of the bullet train and then utterly demolished the bullet train station with a few punches, and he had made it look easy.

Although Su Xing could probably accomplish the same thing with ease, relying on his physical body alone without a sword, it still meant his opponent possessed immense destructive power.

Su Xing’s goal was never to simply defeat him, but to kill him. That level of destructive power, combined with the inherent difficulty of killing someone from the zombie Sequence, immediately made the Corpse High Priest a rather tricky opponent.

"Su Yu’s older brother...?"

"I never expected you to be the mysterious expert."

The Corpse High Priest’s eyes were icy, locked onto Su Xing as he said in a cold voice:

"You have the scent of Ah Xing’s blood on you."

Although Su Xing had guessed from the start that the old man before him was the High Priest in charge of those zombies, his opponent’s words now made him even more certain. Su Xing’s eyes narrowed slightly as he said in a solemn voice:

"You want to avenge your subordinate?"

The moment he finished speaking, the Black Sword appeared in his right hand, and the Sparrow Sword began to circle around him and Lu Anning. A solemn killing intent rose in Su Xing’s heart.

"Subordinate...? That was my son! MY SON!"

An intense green light erupted from the Corpse High Priest’s eyes. His killing intent blazed as he roared, "How dare you kill my son, Lin Ran’s son! I will slaughter every last one of you and send you all to the grave to be buried with him!"

In his extreme rage, the Corpse High Priest lost his composure and yelled out the name he had before joining the Spiritual Sect. But he didn’t care in the slightest. With a flicker of his body, he became a blurry afterimage, hurtling wildly toward Su Xing!

His incredible speed generated one sonic boom after another. Amidst rings of shattered air, his palm, covered in an intensely dense green sequence energy, slashed viciously toward Su Xing.

"Be buried with him? You think you’re worthy?!"

Su Xing roared back in fury. The Spiritual Sect’s repeated provocations were beginning to wear on his patience. A surge of irritation welled up inside him. He didn’t dodge or evade, simply gripped the Black Sword in his right hand and slashed out at his opponent!

The Corpse High Priest wanted to leverage the hard-to-kill nature of his zombie Sequence to trade injuries with Su Xing,

But Su Xing had already suffered a loss to this tactic back in Xue City. How could he fall for it a second time? The very instant the thought formed in the Corpse High Priest’s mind, the Sparrow Sword shot out and slashed toward his other fist!

BOOM!

Amidst a tremendous roar, a large section of the ground suddenly caved in, throwing up a huge cloud of dust.

Within the hazy dust, one figure stood completely still, while another was sent flying backward like a cannonball, only coming to a stop when it smashed into what was left of the bullet train station.

The Corpse High Priest slammed heavily into the ruins of the bullet train station several meters away, causing the entire wreckage to tremble before he crashed straight down into the bullet train station’s first floor.
