Chapter 77: Chapter 77: You Still Think You Can Run?
GURGLE—GURGLE—
A strange gurgling emanated from the Corpse High Priest. His skin broke out in a constant stream of small bubbles, his pale green eyes fixed on Lu Anning, never looking away.
Only then did some of the innocent civilians in the station begin to react. Their gazes followed the old man’s silhouette, landing on the young girl in the short black skirt who had suddenly appeared.
"That young lady..." Many people stared in their direction, surprised.
They never imagined the person this wicked old man was so desperate to catch was such a young girl. This only deepened their disgust for him, and many of the ordinary people inside shouted through the glass:
"Young lady, run!"
The shouts filtered faintly through the glass. The Corpse High Priest, standing just outside the station, watched Lu Anning calmly. At their words, his mouth split into a hideous grin, revealing the ghastly white teeth within.
’They’re right... I have to run!’
That one thought flashed through Lu Anning’s mind. She now possessed the ability to sever the white threads, but this only made her more painfully aware of how powerful the Corpse High Priest was—far beyond what a novice Extraordinary like herself could ever hope to match.
Her only chance of survival was to stall for time until Coach Su arrived to rescue her.
Besides, even if nobody came to help, if she could just lead this old man away, at least the people inside the station could get out alive.
As these thoughts raced through her mind, Lu Anning kept her eyes locked on the old man before her, slowly unzipping her sword bag and drawing the longsword within.
It was a blade Coach Su had custom-made for her, tailored to her strength. Now, Lu Anning gripped it tightly in her hand.
She felt a powerful threat radiating from him—a threat identical to the one from the imitation Liu Shiyu—and an intense, almost tangible malice.
Last time, Coach Su had been there to help. This time, she was on her own. ’I have to do whatever it takes to survive.’ She immediately tightened her grip on her longsword as a faint white light coalesced on its edge, and she began to back away, one step at a time.
When the people inside the station saw that Lu Anning’s sword was actually glowing, some at first wondered if it was a toy. But after witnessing the old man’s superhuman abilities, more people began to suspect that this young girl, Lu Anning, was no ordinary person either.
Most importantly, the young girl was clearly trying to lure the old man away. If she did, they could all escape. A flicker of hope ignited in many of their hearts.
Just then, the Corpse High Priest shot Lu Anning an arrogant look. "Thinking of running? I’ll let you have a head start. First, I’ll dispose of these Muggles who haven’t even stepped into the world of the Extraordinary."
The moment the words left his mouth, a pale green ring of light erupted from beneath his feet. In that same instant, he vanished. To the civilians in the station, the old man seemed to have disappeared into thin air.
Only Lu Anning, being one of the Extraordinary, was able to perceive what happened. Though she couldn’t react in time either, her eyes barely managed to track the Corpse High Priest’s movements.
Her head snapped up, and she clearly saw the Corpse High Priest land on the roof of the station.
It all happened so fast that many of the ordinary people had no idea what was going on. Two of the bolder ones even tried to push the doors open to get a look outside.
But before they could even open the doors, the entire train station began to tremble violently.
The Corpse High Priest, having leaped to the station roof, clenched his fist and brought it smashing down!
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
With each earth-shattering impact, massive chunks of concrete and stone collapsed, and the first floor of the station was almost completely buried.
The station officials reacted with incredible speed. The moment the old man vanished, they began evacuating civilians from the first floor. Under their direction, most people managed to flee to the underground waiting hall.
Only a few civilians—those too slow, or too curious—and the officials who had voluntarily stayed behind to direct the crowds were crushed to death by the falling debris.
Many of those who had escaped to the underground level stared at the now-blocked passages leading up. Cold sweat dripped from their foreheads as a single thought echoed in their minds:
"What... what the hell kind of monster is that?!"
Before, when they saw the old man throw the station chief into a notice board, they just thought he was unhinged but had shocking physical strength.
But now? He had leaped to the roof in a single bound and flattened the station with a few punches. With that level of destructive power, you could call him a walking nuclear bomb and no one would argue.
Is that thing even fucking human?!
The legs of many terrified onlookers gave out, and they collapsed to the floor.
Some began frantically typing out last words to their friends and family, trying to get their affairs in order.
Others had been recording the entire time. They posted the videos online, hoping to get help from the outside world.
The deputy chief was keenly aware of the protocol for this sort of thing. He snatched the person’s phone, deleted the video they had just posted, and said sternly:
"This is sensitive information. It is not to be circulated."
’That monster out there obviously didn’t just pop into existence,’ he thought. ’This means the higher-ups have known about creatures like this for a long time.’
’They’re deliberately hiding this from the public. As a government employee, I have to follow orders from above. If I don’t, I’ll be the one to get burned.’
However, he wasn’t the only one who had been recording. Seeing the deputy chief stop that person from posting, others began to upload their own videos on the sly. A flood of clips from the train station, shot from dozens of different angles, began to appear in private group chats and on various social media platforms.
