Chapter 106: Chapter 99: Weak, Too Weak
Su Xing stepped out of the car. He looked at the three-meter-high iron gate locked before him, then leaped over it with a light jump.
To Su Xing’s knowledge, this had once been a major chemical plant, providing Ningshui City with countless jobs and immense profits.
Now, however, it was dead silent. You couldn’t find a single intact machine, let alone another person.
As Su Xing walked into the chemical plant, he scanned his surroundings. He suddenly lifted his head and his nose twitched. A faint, foul stench permeated the air.
"This smell..."
’The Zombie Sequence.’ Su Xing quickly recognized his old friend. ’Did the Corpse High Priest not die?’ he wondered, puzzled. ’No... he’s definitely dead. Someone has acquired a new Zombie Sequence.’
Su Xing quickly processed the possibilities.
He glanced in the direction where the smell was strongest. With a clench of his right hand, the Black Sword materialized. He then quickened his pace and headed over.
Su Xing followed the scent to the entrance of an underground passage. This place had once been used for storing miscellaneous items or as temporary lodging for security guards.
Now, it was completely dark—deathly silent and gloomy, like an entrance to Hell.
CREAK—
Amid a piercing scraping sound, Su Xing pushed open the small iron door to the underground passage and walked in.
DRIP—
The sound of dripping water echoed, one drop after another.
Su Xing stopped. Using the moonlight behind him, he saw beads of blood dripping in front of him, forming a growing crimson pool on the ground. He slowly raised his head.
A zombie with a completely rotted face was hanging upside down, its empty, eyeless sockets meeting his gaze.
The zombie seemed to see Su Xing. The corners of its mouth slowly curled into a grotesque grin, splitting its face wide in a terrifying, horrifying manner.
"Who do you think you’re scaring?"
With a calm expression, Su Xing slashed his sword directly at the grinning zombie!
The strike was too fast for the zombie to react. Its head was sent flying from its shoulders.
SWOOSH.
The Sparrow Sword shot out.
In an instant, it pierced the zombie’s head, causing it to explode!
Its head, like a punctured rotten tomato, began to crack from the center before completely exploding, sending minced flesh and brain matter flying everywhere!
The zombie clearly didn’t know what hit it.
Su Xing kicked it to the ground, where it rolled several times before coming to a stop.
It staggered to its feet, only for Su Xing to stomp it back to the ground.
Although the surroundings were pitch-black, Su Xing could still see the zombie’s appearance with the help of the moonlight.
The deceased was a robust, middle-aged man wearing the work uniform of a residential complex. His muscles were large and hard. There was no telling where he had been taken from.
’An ordinary person, turned into a zombie.’
Su Xing’s eyes narrowed. He could now confirm that someone had indeed acquired the Zombie Sequence, but whether it was a Fallen one was yet to be determined.
If it was a Fallen Sequence, that meant the user possessed two sequences. This thought put Su Xing on high alert.
Su Xing kicked the headless corpse into the air and punched it against the nearby wall, then continued deeper into the passage.
The Sparrow Sword suddenly slashed down as if dicing meat, cutting the headless zombie into tiny pieces of flesh. Only then did it return to Su Xing’s side, glowing red.
Su Xing followed the passage all the way to a storage room. The foul stench in the air was even stronger than before.
His eyes had adjusted to the darkness, and he could now make out several blurry black figures in the storage room. They stood motionless, exuding an aura of death.
Su Xing stopped in his tracks and thought to himself:
’More zombies?’
’The Zombie Sequence requires corpses to create zombies. Whoever did this must have killed a lot of innocent people.’
As Su Xing was contemplating this,
two faint, almost imperceptible sets of footsteps sounded behind him.
Two more zombies, similar to the one before, had appeared out of nowhere behind him. They emanated the aura of the Third Order and cut off his retreat.
There were four in front and two behind, a total of six zombies.
’Six Third-Order zombies to take me down? A little insulting, isn’t it?’ Su Xing thought.
The moment the thought crossed his mind, the zombies attacked.
At first, their movements were stiff, like wind-up robots that had gotten stuck. But after the first two steps, their movements immediately became fluid and fast.
Their slow shuffles quickly became a run, then a full sprint, as they charged Su Xing from all directions, stirring up a violent gale!
The assault was ferocious and overwhelming.
Su Xing’s expression didn’t change at all. He just stood quietly in place, the Sparrow Sword held vertically at his side.
The next moment,
the Sparrow Sword shot toward the fastest zombie!
VMMMMM!!!
A flash of white light cut through the underground passage, accompanied by the sound of tearing air.
With a CRACK,
the Sparrow Sword blew that zombie’s head apart.
Seeing this, the other zombies seemed completely unfazed and continued to charge toward Su Xing, heedless of everything.
This made Su Xing frown.
These were not like the zombies he remembered. The zombies Su Xing had encountered before, like Ah Xing, all had clear signs of sentience.
But these six were like zombies from movies, showing no signs of sentience at all.
VMM! VMM!
The sword hummed twice more!
CRACK!
One zombie, mid-charge, had its legs suddenly severed by the Sparrow Sword. It face-planted, tumbling to the ground.
At the same time, its head was instantly pierced by the Sparrow Sword. The terrifying power behind the blade made its skull as fragile as paper, and blood and brains splattered everywhere.
The headless zombie flailed its limbs on the ground like a headless chicken, unable to locate its enemy.
The other four zombies also had their heads chopped off by the Sparrow Sword, and they lay on the ground wriggling like maggots.
Su Xing, Black Sword in hand, walked over to the six headless corpses. Stepping on one, he began hacking away, one strike after another.
Blood splattered and flesh flew until Su Xing had chopped all the zombies into minced meat. Only then did he stop.
Blood dripped from Su Xing’s fingers. To him, the corrosive properties of a Third-Order zombie were negligible.
Even as the blood stained his skin, Su Xing felt nothing. He just looked indifferently at the minced bone and meat on the ground and thought to himself:
’Weak. Far too weak.’
