Chapter 6: What Were You Thinking?

"Where... am I?" The question left her lips in a haze, her mind a pain-induced, throbbing mess. Her hands clutched her skull, gritting her teeth in agony as a sharp, deafening ring echoed in her ears, making her feel like she’d faint at any moment.

Then came the memories, each distant a flashbang of information, experience, and a tale of the woman she had been transmigrated into. The pain was beyond anything she had ever felt before, a painful groan tearing from her throat as she tried her best to remain conscious.

After a few moments, the pain finally ceased, and Loraine was able to catch her breath, glancing around her room with an observant and somewhat bewildered gaze.

"God, please don’t make me go through that, EVER again!" Loraine cried out in frustration, her chest heaving and falling with every breath, her body already beginning to sweat from enduring the sheer pain she had just gone through.

’So this is what I sound like?’ She thought, raising a brow to herself. Her voice sounded soft and delicate, like silk instead of the rough mess it was when she didn’t drench her stress in cigarettes and alcohol from her rough days at her corporate job.

But she wasn’t in that place anymore; heck, she wasn’t even back on earth anymore.

She took a few minutes to stabilize herself, allowing her nerves and racing heart to calm down.

’Alright, now that I’ve successfully calmed down, I should think back and analyze what I saw.’ She thought, recalling every bit of information she managed to absorb through the flashbacks of her memories. ƒreewebɳovel.com

Her name was Loraine Velmer, a 19-year-old woman born in a common village far into the outskirts of the Capital of Valtenio. Loraine was born into a family primarily consisting of commoners and failed awakeners alike, her mother and father having common classes.

However, when the day of Loraine’s awakening came to fruition, Loraine was deemed Classless and unable to awaken a Class or Talent, leading her to be shunned and deemed a failure.

After this tragic incident, Loraine was eventually discarded by her family and sold off to serve a noble family. She could vividly see the images of Loraine crying for her parents as a young girl as she was forcefully dragged away, a dark and unsettling feeling crawling up her spine.

They didn’t do it because they were selfish, but because they had to survive.

"...." Loraine was speechless, unable to form words to describe what she even feeling at the moment.

"Great, I was practically discarded, sold off by my own family," Loraine said to herself with a sigh, somewhat irritated, pinching the bridge of her nose.

’As if things couldn’t get any more tragic, now I have to worry about that noble asshole I managed to piss off. The system wasn’t lying when it said this world was extremely dangerous.’ She thought, shifting in her bed slightly as she gazed at her palms, her fingers slender, soft, and delicate.

’This...is gonna take some getting used to.’

[Ding! You Have Successfully Transmigrated!]

’!!!’ Loraine blinked in surprise, jolting back instinctively as the system window popped up in front of her.

"Damn again with these jump scares," Loraine muttered, a bit annoyed by the system’s habit of always surprising her.

[Please View Your Status For Additional Information!]

The system screen disappeared shortly after, leaving her alone in the room once more. Loraine sat there in silence for a few moments, processing everything so far.

’What are the odds of getting transmigrated into someone sharing your class’s exact role? Still, though, I’ll take it. I’ve been on a lucky streak so far, might as well enjoy it.’ Loraine thought with a small smile, pulling the blankets off herself as she stood up in the center of the room.

Well, the old Loraine didn’t have a maid profession, but she still worked as a maid in this noble household. Unlike the other maids, however, Loraine struggled to keep up as everyone else, other than her, could do their job very efficiently, as that’s what their class allowed them to do.

"How do I view my status, though? I assume it wouldn’t be as simple as just calling for your status out loud, right?" She questioned, skeptical. She took a deep breath and steadied herself, exhaling slowly to calm her nerves before calling out for her status.

"Status!" Loraine called out, but nothing happened, leaving her in an awkward silence.

...

’Strange, maybe it doesn’t work like that? Would’ve been convenient, but I guess my luck finally ran out.’ She pondered, her mind already noting to herself and theorizing on how she was gonna approach this and figure this thing out.

’Do I just have to visualize it? Like, manifest it in my mind?’

The next idea was her last bet, as other than calling out for the system or thinking of it in your mind, she really didn’t have any other idea as to how she was going to be able to view her status.

And that would be pretty bad. ƒгeewebnovёl.com

’Statu-!!’

Loraine’s train of thought was interrupted by the sudden opening of her room’s door, freezing her dead in place as her eyes snapped toward the intrusion.

An old, elderly woman stood at the doorway, carrying a tray of what looked like some herbs and medicine. Her eyes widened upon seeing Loraine standing in the middle of the room, their eyes locking instantly.

"You’re awake..." The elderly woman muttered out loud, shock evident in her voice. "I was getting worried that you might’ve entered a coma after you endured that injury." The elderly woman said, placing the tray on a nearby table.

Immediately, however, the old lady’s attitude changed from calm and composed to that of sheer rage and malice as she strided towards Loraine, glaring fiercely at the girl.

’Oh no...here it comes, get ready..’

"You foolish girl!!" The elderly woman shouted, her voice booming through the room.
