Chapter 5: A Knock On Death’s Door
In the halls of a dangerous noble family, a dark, and gloomy sight was to behold. The air was stuffed with the smell of concrete, dust clouds filling the air after the powerful strike.
"Hmph," A small scoff escaped the lips of a tall figure, their bright blonde hair illuminating the room like a light as the dust cleared, his piercing green eyes staring down the woman who had dared offend him, a disgusting scowl on his face.
"Damn mongrel, perhaps that should serve as a lesson for what would happen if any of you dare speak up to me again." He remarked, glancing down at the woman who’s head was leaning against a massive crack in the porcelain walls, her head severely damaged as blood began to spill from her injury, the once clean white maid uniform she adorned, now a mess of dust and crimson.
"Clean this up, and hire someone to fix that crack in the wall, we wouldn’t want father to find out what happened here, now would we?" He said, unleashing a fierce glare in the direction of the maids, his presence and overwhelming malice striking them in their hearts like a blade, their bodies trembling uncontrollably in fear as he began to walk away.
Unbothered by the crime he had just committed.
"Noooooo!!!!!" A blood curdling scream echoed from one of the maids, eyes widening in shock and fear upon seeing the condition of the woman infront of them, tears spilling from her eyes as out of everyone who was paralyzed in fear she dashed toward the body in quick haste, crouching down to observe her more closely, a silent prayer in her heart, wishing that she would be okay.
"Loraine! Loraine wake up!!" She cried, shaking her body gently, her heart shattering at the sight of her once best friend now dead. She had long blonde hair, similar to the monster that did this to her friend, her blue eyes overflowing with tears.
She clutched the body to her chest, her cries intensifying and reaching the heavens as she gazed up at the ceiling, wondering why her best friend had to go ahead and do such a thing.
"You monster!! You killed her!" Her voice echoed throughout the halls, a mix of pain and underlying rage, glaring fiercely at the man as he stopped dead in his tracks, fingers twitching at his sides in irritation.

"You think you can just walk away after committing a crime like this!?" She questioned, her breathing coming in short gasps, her teeth grit as she stared at the lifeless body of her friend, her heart shaking at the sight.
"What are you doing!? Keep quiet you idiot!" The head maid yelled, grabbing the girl by her shoulder, but her grip barely held any strength, her entire being still trembling in the presence of the man they didn’t want to upset any further.
"Shut up! Get your filthy hands off me!" The woman yelled, slapping the woman’s hand away as she glared at her. "You’re a coward! A frail, old coward! If that bastard wants to kill me for my outburst than so be it!"
The head maid stumbled back in shock, her hand unconsciously coming to cover her bruised one, her eyes slowly rising up to see the man slowly continue walking away after a brief moment, a small, shaky sigh escaping her throat.
"Foolish girl, you could’ve gotten us all killed!" The head maid shouted in anger, but the girl didn’t even turn to look at her, instead coddling the lifeless body of the woman in her hands, her sobs becoming louder.
’...no....I shouldn’t say that, she just lost someone important to her. I have no right to talk in this situation...’ The head maid thought, her rage dying down as she stared at the woman still crying and holding her best friend in her arms.
"We should get up and try to clean this mess before any important guests arrive." The head maid spoke, crouching down toward the woman and placing a hand on her shoulder, a gentle gesture in contrast with her previous one that had been hard and out of panic.
"Please...sob....just a while longer...let me hold her...a while longer..." The woman said, sobbing as her tears continued to stream down her face.
"....."
Just then, one of the tears that were streaming down her face, fell on the face of the mortally injured woman in her arms, a slight twitch in her fingers, paired with the twitch on her bloody eyebrows caught the attention of everyone present immediately.
"S-she moved!" One of the maids exclaimed, eyes widening in surprise.
’She’s still alive..? But how, that attack should’ve killed her, I mean...’ The head maid thought, turning her gaze to her side where the large crack in the broken wall was present. ’There’s no way she should’ve survived that...’
"Loraine!!" The blonde woman cried, embracing her friend with new hope in her eyes, noticing that she was still alive.
"Quick! Let’s get her treated, Lucy, go purchase a restoration potion from the guild! Lisa, help Sarah get Loraine to her room!" The head maid ordered, acting quickly.
Lucy flinched for a moment, the command from the head maid catching her off guard for a moment. "A-alright! On it!" She replied, already sprinting down the hall, with Lucy helping the woman pick up the unconscious body of Loraine.
"Please Loraine, hold on...help is on the way..."

A few days later....
The sun filtered through the windows of a well furnished room, banishing the darkness underneath. The warm rays of sunshine fell upon the face of a woman lying in bed, her chest rising and falling in a steady rhythm.
She had short silver hair that met her shoulders, her eyes twitching for a moment, before they slowly opened, her pupils shared gems of crimson red, her vision blurry and disoriented as she forced her body to sit upwards, stabilizing herself in this unfamiliar environment she found herself in.
"Where...am I?"
