Loraine sat outside the bathroom facilities of the noble mansion, a look of pure unadulterated disgust etched onto her face and the horrors of what went down inside, eternally burned into her memory forever.

"I wanna puke...nothing could have prepared me for what was inside." Loraine muttered to herself, her hand shooting up to close her mouth as she fought the urge to puke, trying her best not to think of that anymore.

’Well atleast that’s over with, this day can’t get any worse can it?’ She thought, but even she herself wasn’t sure anymore. She forced herself to stand, vehemently shaking her head to gain some former control of herself back. freewebnσvel.cøm

"Now that this bathroom nightmare has been taken care of, I need to go ahead and get started on laundry." Loraine said, already on the move. Her mind was already thinking of everything that went down so far, her disastrous skill attempts, her spotless clean uniform, and the condenscending tone of the maid that spoke to her earlier in the garden.

"Alice..." Loraine muttered her name, the word a bitter taste in her mouth. Out of all the maids Loraine was aquainted with in the past, Alice was by far the least on her favourites list.

Cruel, sadistic, and a great actress, Alice was a sweet and humble girl before others, but an absolute devil to Loraine.....well, so was everyone else, but she was most easily one of the most daring of the bunch. And Loraine didn’t like that.

’I need to keep my distance from her, she’s dangerous.’ Loraine thought, her crimson eyes darting over her surroundings.

"I’ll quickly finish up whatever I have left to do and try to practice some of my skills in secret, if I want a good chance of defending myself in the future, its best I atleast understand the foundational skills I start with." With a determined look in her eye, and a fierce fire burning in her chest, Loraine set off to complete what was left of her Daily Quest.

---------

A few hours later....

Loraine stood in the grand halls of the mansion’s study, the library of books was a sight to behold indeed. Knowledge practically came alive in a place such as this, as just by standing in the room Loraine could feel a strong, almost burning sensation grinding against her skin and damaging her lungs.

She thought back to when she was doing laundry just a while ago, since this world didn’t have any washing machines, that meant she had to do the work with her hands.

And while she had no problem with that, however, the fear of causing a disaster with her [Clean] Skill was overwhelming, and she could have exposed her abilities to the nearby maids, so she had to rely on her [Cleanse] Skill to do the job and do her best to pretend washing the clothes without actually washing them.

It was far harden than it had any right to be, but in the end, it all worked out.

"I’m grateful I have access to something as useful as [Cleanse]," She said to herself, a small smile playing out on her lips "I’m sure my hands could’ve caused a disaster, or worse, tear the clothing of that arrogant asshole to shreds." She sighed, referring to the young master.

Snapping her attention back to the task at hand, she noted that the Mana present in this room was enormous.

"Are there magic books in here? Is that why the pressure in here feels so...suffocating?" She asked herself, her hand trembling slightly as she gripped the brush in her hand with a strong intensity, a small sweat droplet sliding off her head.

’And if so, just how many are there?’ Loraine thought, intrigued as she closed the door to the study behind her with the most gentle force imaginable, the door clicking shut with a soft click.

She stood against the door for a moment, not only to stabilize her nervous form, but to listen to the sounds of anyone that might be coming towards this room.

And thankfully, for the time being, nobody seemed to be approaching this room.

Loraine breathed a sigh of relief, pushing herself off the door as she began to clean the study....at a very slow pace.

"Easy....easy..." Loraine whispered to herself, the brush gently scraping the bookshelf with a featherlight touch. While it looked silly, the pain in her arms was comparable to trying to lift a heavy weight, but instead of trying to lift it upward, you had to practice maintaining a firm grip and moving it by mere inches In a fluid motion.

’Good...I’m getting better at this...’

’!!!’ The sudden announcement by the system caught off guard, causing her to lose focus and accidentally brush a bit too hard against the bookshelf, a powerful gust of wind blasting through the shelf, nearly knocking the whole thing over as a few dozen books fell from the shelf, flopping down onto the ground.

"Oh shit!!" Loraine cursed, gritting her teeth as she turned around to glare at the system notification beside her. "Great, look at what you did, now I have to clean up this mess." Loraine grumbled under her breath, kneeling down to pick up the books that had fallen down.

"I just hope these weren’t badly damaged, as I don’t have a skill to fix that, not that it wouldn’t end in disaster anyways." She said with a sarcastic tone, sighing as she started to place the books back into their place.

’Hm? What’s this?’

Her hand grabbed onto a book with strange accentual patterns, the book emanating a warm, almost hot warmth against her bare skin, her eyes widening with awe and child-like curiousity.

"A...Skill Book...?" Her eyes widened in realization, her feet shooting up from the ground like a coiled sprint released, her hands trembling at the discovery that she had just come across something rare, and from what she could feel the book radiating, undeniably powerful as well.

"I...need to open it." Loraine muttered to herself in an almost trance-like state, her hands dipping into the pages as she began to slowly open the book, a strong light piercing her eyes as she prepared to embrace the knowledge this book was about to bestow upon her.

"What are you doing?" A voice came from behind her, snapping Loraine out of her trance like state as she realized that she wasn’t alone in the room anymore.

’Oh...shit...’
