Chapter 138: Chapter 134: How Are You Getting Along with Elliot Sheridan?

Nancy Hughes scooted over on the bed, motioning for Georgia Thorne to get in.

She sighed. "It’s been so long since we last shared a bed!"

Georgia Thorne grunted in agreement. ’Thank goodness tomorrow is Saturday,’ she thought. ’I don’t have to work.’

After turning off the lights, Nancy found it hard to fall asleep.

She rolled over, looked at Georgia’s back, and asked curiously, "Hey, Georgia, how have things been between you and Elliot Sheridan lately?"

Their own CEO was the one who brought her home yesterday. They must be getting along great.

Georgia, burrowed in her blankets, muffled her face in the covers and replied sullenly, "I don’t know!"

’I don’t know?’

’What’s that supposed to mean?’

Nancy figured Georgia was probably just shy and didn’t feel comfortable talking about it.

She let out a small sigh. At this rate, Georgia wouldn’t just be moving in with Elliot Sheridan; she’d be marrying him.

She was so jealous of Georgia. She hadn’t even graduated yet, and she’d already found her man.

And he was Elliot Sheridan, of all people. You probably couldn’t find a more sought-after man in all of Portmire.

Before long, the sound of steady breathing came from the other side of the bed. Buried in her blankets, Georgia breathed a sigh of relief.

She really didn’t know where she and Elliot stood. It wasn’t a breakup, but it was. It was a breakup, but it wasn’t.

She closed her eyes, deciding it was best not to think about all this messy business.

「The next day」

Georgia was woken by a knock on the door.

She had been sleeping fitfully anyway. Hearing the knock, she hastily threw on a jacket, got out of bed, and faintly heard the sound of police sirens.

Nancy was still asleep. She rolled over with a few irritated groans, pulling the blanket over her head to cover her ears.

"Is anyone home?" a man’s voice called out. Georgia hurried over to open the door.

"Yes," she said. Opening the door, she saw a man in a police uniform standing in front of her. "Can I help you?"

’The police?’

The police officer flashed his badge. Georgia barely got a glance at it before he put it away.

"I’m investigating a child abduction case."

"What?" Child abduction? Georgia was completely bewildered.

"Here’s the situation. The abducted child is named Luke Sutton, and he went missing from school yesterday. We followed the trail of clues here to your home. Are you...?"

The officer explained at length, and Georgia more or less understood the gist of it.

"You must have made a mistake. How could we possibly be involved in child abduction?" Georgia said with a nervous laugh, hoping the police wouldn’t come inside.

"We’ll find out if it’s a mistake once we have a look inside," the officer said, all business. He gestured for his colleagues behind him to enter.

"Wait! None of you can come in!" Georgia frantically blocked the doorway. "You don’t have a search warrant! You can’t just search my home!"

The officer seemed to have expected her to say that. He handed her the warrant, then let the other officers enter to search the premises.

Georgia clutched the search warrant, watching the officers file in. She was desperate to warn Lynn Thorne and get Luke out of the way first.

However, the commotion outside was too loud. Lynn Thorne was woken up by the noise and opened her door.

"What’s going on? Why is it so noisy?" She wasn’t worried about herself being disturbed; she was afraid the noise would wake her son.

When the officer saw Lynn, he said grimly, "I have reason to suspect you of child abduction. You have the right to remain silent."

"What are you talking about?!"

Lynn was stunned. It wasn’t until the police snapped handcuffs on her wrists that she began to struggle. "I didn’t abduct any child! You’ve got the wrong person!"

"The wrong person? Then who’s the little boy in your room?" An officer picked up the sleeping Luke Sutton and started walking out.

"That’s my son! You can’t take him!"

In the interrogation room, Lynn Thorne explained the facts to the police over and over again.

"I didn’t abduct anyone! Luke is my son!"

She repeated it countless times, on the verge of breaking down.

Finally, an officer said, "The person who reported this was Finn Sutton. Do you know him?"

"Yes, I do. He’s my husband... my ex-husband!"

Lynn had instinctively called Finn Sutton her husband, but then she remembered the divorce papers they had signed just the day before yesterday.

They were already ex-husband and ex-wife.

In her daze, a single point of realization emerged in her blank mind, expanding until she stared with wide eyes.

He knew perfectly well that she was the only other person who could pick up their child from school, yet Finn Sutton had still called the police and accused her of child abduction.

Outside the police station, Georgia waited anxiously. She saw Finn Sutton get out of his car and hurry inside.

He took Luke from an officer’s arms. "Luke, are you okay?"

And in that instant, Georgia understood everything.

"Brother-in-law, could I have a word with you somewhere private?" Georgia walked up to him, her gaze steady and unflinching.

Finn Sutton hesitated for a moment, then placed the child in the car and walked to a corner with Georgia.

The early winter air was exceptionally cold, and a bitter wind blew in gusts.

"Were you the one who called the police on my sister?" Georgia asked through gritted teeth.

Finn Sutton put on a troubled expression. "I had no choice. My parents adore Luke; I can’t let Lynn have him."

"You don’t need to explain that to me. I’m asking you, did you call the police and have my sister arrested?"

"Yes," Finn Sutton admitted with a nod.

Suddenly, Georgia started to laugh, tears welling in the corners of her eyes. "Finn Sutton, my sister must have been blind to marry you and waste a whole decade of her life on you!"

"Georgia, go back and talk some sense into your sister. She can have the house, alimony, whatever she wants. But not Luke!"

"You’re completely heartless! Don’t you have another woman on the side? Go have her give you children! My sister only has Luke!"

"It’s not that, Jenny’s child..." Finn Sutton trailed off. For a family like his, it was, of course, better to have more boys.

’Selfish people are truly terrifying.’ Georgia gave a helpless smile, refused to listen to any more of Finn’s excuses, and turned back toward the police station.

The police only released Lynn Thorne after confirming her maternal relationship with Luke Sutton.

Georgia stood at the entrance and watched Lynn emerge from the interrogation room, her eyes red and swollen from crying. She must have figured everything out while she was in there.

"Big Sis, don’t cry. Let’s go home."

"Where’s Luke?!"

"Finn Sutton already took him."

"Georgia, I just never expected... I never expected this!" Lynn collapsed into Georgia’s arms, sobbing uncontrollably.

"I know, I know everything. Big Sis, please don’t cry," Georgia said, patting her on the back comfortingly.

There was nothing in the world more chilling than this.

To take your own child, only to have the husband you’d spent ten years with call the police on you.

Georgia brought Lynn back to their apartment. Nancy Hughes was pacing back and forth in the living room.

"How did it go?"

"Big Sis, let me help you to your room to get some sleep."

Lynn was silent, like a marionette, allowing Georgia to help her into the room and onto the bed.

Georgia tucked her in. "Get some sleep. Everything will be better after you rest."

Then she closed the door and left the room.

"What on earth happened? Your sister... she doesn’t seem to be in a good state of mind," Nancy asked with concern.

Georgia sighed and told her what had happened at the police station.

Nancy slammed her hand on the coffee table, furious. "She gets reported to the police just for wanting to see her own son? That man is absolute scum!"

"Keep your voice down! Don’t let my sister hear you!" Georgia gave her a little shove.

"So what happens now? It’s obvious your sister will fall apart if she loses her son."

"I don’t know. Right now, we can only take it one step at a time."

Georgia shook her head, admitting she really didn’t know.

Georgia thought Lynn would need at least a week to recover.

But when Lynn woke up the next morning, she acted as if nothing had happened.

"Third Sis, I’ve made breakfast. You two go ahead and eat. I need to make a trip back to the Thorne Family estate."

"Big Sis, what are you going back to the Thorne estate for?"

"I’m going to beg Mom and Dad for help. I have to get my son back. Even if it means suing the Sutton Family, I won’t let them have him!"

"I’ll go with you," Georgia said.

"Okay."

Meanwhile, at the Thorne Family estate, an honored guest was being entertained.

Amanda Thorne was glowing with pride, sitting smugly beside Elliot Sheridan.

’See?’ she thought. ’How could three years of feelings just vanish into thin air? Elliot is still interested in me.’

Otherwise, he wouldn’t have had Owen Sawyer call her to ask for a date.

Well, he called it a "date," but what Owen had actually said on the phone was that Elliot just wanted to see her.

Naturally, Amanda wasn’t about to pass up any opportunity with Elliot, so she had hastily agreed.

She had agreed, but the location was set by Elliot.

The meeting place was the Thorne Family estate, which had surprised Amanda.

It made her even less able to figure out Elliot’s intentions.

For lunch, upon learning that Elliot was coming, Hayley Sullivan had specifically instructed the cook to prepare a lavish spread to entertain him.

Elliot chatted and smiled, dining elegantly. The atmosphere seemed warm, but he was emotionally detached.

Even Jared Thorne, who had navigated the world of high society and entertainment for years, couldn’t fathom Elliot’s intentions and could only plaster on a smile.

He tried his best to find topics of conversation, but Elliot showed no reaction—until Georgia Thorne was mentioned. Then, a light flickered in Elliot’s eyes.

He set down his glass, his dark eyes fixed sharply on Jared Thorne. "I hear Georgia isn’t your child with your wife?"

Elliot phrased the question about Georgia’s identity delicately, but Jared Thorne still gave an awkward laugh and admitted it.

"That’s right. Her mother’s name was Yara Joyce."

"Her surname was Joyce?" Elliot seemed intrigued. Jared nodded. "She never officially joined the Thorne Family. She was called Natalie Joyce. Later, after she took the Thorne surname, she became Georgia Thorne."

Originally, the plan was to simply add the Thorne surname to her birth name, Natalie. But Hayley Sullivan objected.

She considered it a grave insult for an illegitimate daughter to carry a name she disliked into the Thorne household, so she insisted the "Natalie" part be dropped. The girl was then renamed Georgia Thorne.

As Jared explained, the handsome man across from him listened, an unreadable depth coloring his dark eyes. freeweɓnøvel.com

No one could guess what Elliot was thinking, or why he had suddenly taken an interest in Georgia’s mother.
