Chapter 137: Chapter 133: Veins Bulging on the Arm
Georgia Thorne paid the bill at the bar, then returned to the private room to take Lynn Thorne home.
After drinking, Georgia Thorne’s guard was down. She was completely unaware that someone had been following her for a while now.
When she reached a deserted corner, the image of Elliot Sheridan and Nathan Rhodes together suddenly flooded her blank mind. She couldn’t hold it in any longer and squatted down, bursting into tears.
Her legs grew numb from squatting, but the tears still wouldn’t stop falling.
Through her blurry vision, a pair of shiny black leather shoes suddenly appeared.
Georgia Thorne looked up, her gaze traveling upward: black trousers, a metal belt buckle, a black shirt, and the same navy blue tie from that day.
Under the harsh light, the man’s face was half in shadow, half in light, his expression unreadable, revealing only a sharp, cold jawline.
But Georgia Thorne knew it was him.
Tears streamed down her face even more fiercely. Staring with watery eyes, she figured she must be drunk.
’He would never show up in a small place like this.’
Elliot Sheridan looked down, towering over Georgia Thorne.
She was squatting at his feet, her eyes red and moist, looking just like a pitiful stray cat.
Waiting for someone to take her home.
Elliot Sheridan frowned and nudged her with his foot. His voice was hoarse. "What are you crying about!"
His tone was harsh, which only made Georgia Thorne cry harder.
’He’s real. He’s actually, truly standing right in front of me.’
She stopped her tears, placed a slender white hand against the wall, and stood up, ignoring her sore, numb legs.
Georgia Thorne said nothing. Not wanting any more contact with him, she tried to leave.
She took a step to the side, and he mirrored her, moving to block her. Georgia Thorne knew he was doing it on purpose.
"Mr. Sheridan, could you please move aside?" Georgia Thorne finally spoke.
Because she had been drinking, Georgia’s voice was also very hoarse and soft, and a little weak.
A tingling numbness crept up her calves. She heard the man say, "Georgia Thorne, what on earth do you want me to do!"
"I don’t need you to do anything! Elliot Sheridan, I admit I like you now, but I don’t like you enough to lose myself. From now on, no matter what woman you appear with, no matter where, no matter what you do, it has nothing to do with me!"
Georgia Thorne reached out, pushed Elliot Sheridan away, and started to walk off.
She forced herself to ignore the tingling ache in her calves, gritting her teeth as she walked forward.
Elliot Sheridan spun around, caught up to her in a few large strides, grabbed her wrist, and spun her around by the shoulder.
He made her face him. "What are you talking about? What have I done, and with what woman!"
’Damn it, I’m going to lose my mind!’
Georgia Thorne pressed her lips together, her eyes wide, and said nothing.
’Doesn’t he know what he’s done?!’
"Tell me, who was I with!" Elliot Sheridan squeezed her wrist tightly.
’In all these years, she’s the only woman who’s been by my side. Who else could there be?!’
Georgia Thorne couldn’t take it anymore. Every time he pressed her for answers, he resorted to force.
"Nathan Rhodes! Your business with Nathan Rhodes!" Georgia Thorne couldn’t break his grip, so in a fit of anger, she bit his wrist.
’Just like I said before, I’ll give him a good, hard bite, and then we’ll break up!’
’Nathan Rhodes?’
’When did I get involved with Nathan Rhodes?’
Anger gathered in his dark eyes. Even though the bite hurt, he refused to let go.
"What about Nathan Rhodes!"
"You know perfectly well, don’t ask me!"
Georgia Thorne let go with her mouth and started hitting him. "Let me go! I hate you the most!"
’He’s the person I hate most in this entire world!’
Elliot Sheridan suddenly recalled what happened at Joanne Donovan’s birthday party. ’Did she get this jealous just because I exchanged a few extra words with Nathan Rhodes? Did she misunderstand our relationship?’
"Hate me? Then why were you so desperately following me around before!" Elliot Sheridan saw her drunken state. He was furious, but he couldn’t bring himself to leave her alone in a place like this.
It was a sketchy area with all sorts of people. He simply grabbed her wrist and swept her up into his arms.
"Ugh..." Georgia Thorne was too angry for words, her small hands still pushing against him forcefully.
Georgia Thorne was no match for a man’s strength. After struggling for a bit, her little face was flushed red.
Eventually, she gave up struggling and said angrily, "Don’t touch me! Go touch your Nathan Rhodes!"
"Shut up!" Elliot Sheridan glanced down, giving her a cold look.
This made Georgia Thorne even angrier. "Who do you think you are? Why should I shut up just because you tell me to? Get lost! I don’t want to see you for the rest of my life!"
As the saying goes, alcohol gives cowards courage. Georgia Thorne had drunk seven or eight bottles; her nerve had never been greater than it was right now.
A vein throbbed at the man’s temple, and the veins on his arm bulged. He just assumed she was having a drunken fit.
"Behave yourself!" Elliot Sheridan carried her into the car. Georgia Thorne yelled, "My sister is still in the private room!"
"She’s in the car behind us!"
He knew exactly where Georgia Thorne had been today and who she had met.
Georgia Thorne looked back and saw Elliot Sheridan’s secretary helping Lynn Thorne into a car. She pushed the door open to go to them.
But the long-armed Elliot Sheridan yanked her back inside. Georgia Thorne turned around and started beating him in protest. "Let go of me! I want to ride with my sister!"
"I don’t want to ride with you!"
Elliot Sheridan pulled her into his arms, refusing to let go no matter how much she struggled or cursed.
’Since when did I become such a glutton for punishment?’
Halfway through her struggling, Georgia Thorne ran out of energy and couldn’t fight anymore.
She let Elliot Sheridan hold her and, without realizing it, fell asleep.
Nancy Hughes was in her room watching TV when she heard a knock on the door and hurried to answer it.
"Georgia Thorne, is that you?" Nancy Hughes raised her voice, wondering who could be visiting so late at night.
"It’s me!" came Elliot Sheridan’s grim voice.
Nancy Hughes recognized Elliot Sheridan’s voice and hurriedly opened the door to see him holding an unconscious Georgia Thorne.
She said fawningly, "President Sheridan, hello!"
’Lynn Thorne and Georgia Thorne reek of alcohol; they must have drunk a lot.’
Elliot Sheridan carried Georgia Thorne straight into her room. Nancy Hughes quickly followed behind and turned on the light.
Then, Owen Sawyer came in carrying Lynn Thorne and placed the two sisters on the bed.
The smell of alcohol was strong. Nancy Hughes quickly fetched some hot water, intending to wipe them down.
When she turned back, she saw Elliot Sheridan staring at Georgia Thorne’s desk.
She asked cautiously, "President Sheridan, I need to wipe them down. Could you perhaps..." ’...step out for a moment?’
Staring at the little woman sleeping soundly on the bed, Elliot Sheridan’s expression suddenly darkened.
Nancy Hughes didn’t notice Elliot Sheridan’s strange mood. She was squatting by the basin, wringing out a towel.
When she looked back up, the man was gone.
Hearing the front door close, Nancy Hughes clicked her tongue. ’He already left?’
She put her hands on her hips and looked at the two drunken sisters. ’They went drinking without me.’
「The next morning」
When Georgia Thorne groggily awoke, her head throbbed with a dull ache, as if it had been beaten.
’This is what a hangover feels like.’
She glanced at Lynn Thorne sleeping beside her. Lynn’s brows were tightly furrowed, and even in her dreams, she kept knitting her brows and calling her son’s name.
Georgia Thorne pulled the blanket over her, then got out of bed herself.
In the bathroom, as she squeezed toothpaste onto her brush, she saw her disheveled reflection in the mirror, and Elliot Sheridan’s handsome face suddenly popped into her mind.
’Who brought me home yesterday?’
The memories from last night slowly returned: she remembered running into Elliot Sheridan, remembered crying her eyes out in front of him, remembered blurting out Nathan Rhodes’s name in her agitation.
’Drunk, so drunk. I was really, truly drunk!’
Georgia Thorne clutched her head, filled with regret. She shouldn’t have let her emotions drive her to drink yesterday.
After washing her face, Georgia Thorne tried hard to remember if she had said anything else to Elliot Sheridan yesterday. She spent the entire morning wracking her brain.
Her mind was a blank, and she couldn’t focus on work.
’I probably didn’t.’
In the afternoon, she went out to meet a client.
The client was difficult. It was just a small contract, but he acted with the arrogance of a big-shot boss.
Georgia Thorne tossed the contract down and said, "Take it or leave it!" freewёbn૦νeɭ.com
This was the first time Georgia Thorne had ever spoken to a client with such a nasty tone.
As soon as she got back to the company, she was called into Nicole Kane’s office for a scolding.
That client really was nasty; he had actually called to complain.
Her mood was already terrible because of last night’s events.
Nicole Kane glanced at her. "Don’t bring your personal emotions to work!"
"I know!" Georgia Thorne mumbled, then turned and left.
When she got home from work, she heard the sound of a child’s voice inside.
Before Georgia Thorne could even take out her key, the door swung open.
Leah was standing in the doorway. "Auntie, you’re home from work!"
Georgia Thorne was a bit surprised, then broke into a smile. "Leah, long time no see!"
Leah was a lively and cheerful boy. He gave Georgia Thorne a big hug, then sat on the sofa to watch cartoons, casually stroking Blue, who was sleeping nearby.
Georgia Thorne put down her bag and went into the kitchen.
Lynn Thorne was busy cooking, the sound of sizzling oil filling the air. Georgia Thorne called out, "Sister, did the Sutton Family give you the child?"
"No, I snuck him out."
Lynn Thorne explained as she continued to cook.
After angrily signing the divorce papers with Finn Sutton, Lynn Thorne had been completely kicked out by the Sutton Family. The two elders of the Sutton family also refused to let their grandson be taken away and wouldn’t even let Lynn see him.
Left with no other choice, Lynn Thorne had to secretly go to the school and pick up her child.
Georgia Thorne frowned, not knowing what to say.
A son is, after all, his mother’s flesh and blood. It wasn’t wrong for Lynn Thorne to want to see her son.
But a faint sense of unease grew in Georgia Thorne’s heart.
In all the years she was married to Finn Sutton, Lynn Thorne had been a housewife and hadn’t worked.
She had learned extensive cooking skills to cater to her picky son.
She had prepared a whole table of delicious dishes, almost all of which were Leah’s favorites.
Holding her rice bowl, Georgia Thorne watched Lynn Thorne dote on her son, her heart aching so much she couldn’t speak.
She let Lynn Thorne and her son sleep in her room, while she took her pillow and went to Nancy Hughes’s room.
Leah still had homework to do that evening, so Georgia Thorne cleared off a space on her desk.
Suddenly, she noticed something was missing from the desk. She thought for a moment. ’Where did the photo of me and my mom go?’
