Chapter 139: Chapter 135: She Didn’t Enter the Thorne Family

Halfway through dinner, Georgia Thorne and Lynn Thorne returned to the Thorne family home.

As she stood at the entrance, her clear, dark eyes met the man inside, and her body suddenly went rigid.

Likewise, Elliot Sheridan’s gaze fell upon Georgia Thorne. Across the distance, their eyes locked.

After just a few seconds, Georgia averted her gaze and reached out to support Lynn beside her. "Big Sis, be careful."

But her thoughts never strayed from Elliot Sheridan for a moment. ’He clearly said he was done with Amanda Thorne. Why is he at the Thorne residence now?’

’Or has he been lying to me all along?’

A sudden wave of helplessness washed over her, and her heart sank. She squeezed her fingers tightly, telling herself to endure it.

"Dad, Mom!" Lynn rarely came back to the Thorne family home, especially with Georgia.

As her mother, Hayley Sullivan was displeased. Her brow furrowed. "Why are you back alone? Where’s Finn? Where’s Leah?"

Lynn usually returned to her parents’ home with Finn Sutton and their son. Today was unusual.

"Mom, there’s something I need to talk to you about." Lynn didn’t look well. In just a few short days, she seemed to have aged five or six years.

For a moment, she didn’t even look as young as Hayley.

Lynn was, after all, Hayley’s daughter. "Let’s go upstairs to talk."

"Okay."

Georgia watched Hayley and her daughter go upstairs, a sense of unease creeping into her heart.

The truth was, Hayley was incredibly biased; Amanda was the only daughter she truly doted on.

She wanted to go upstairs and check on them, but before she could take a step, Amanda called out to her.

"Georgia Thorne, where are your manners? We have a guest, and you can’t even be bothered to say hello?"

Georgia turned woodenly and looked at the three people in the dining room.

Jared Thorne sat at the head of the table, while Amanda was sitting with Elliot Sheridan.

Amanda smiled smugly, the corners of her lips curled up and her eyes shining as if to show off, ’Elliot Sheridan is mine.’

Georgia gave a dry laugh, her watery eyes landing on Elliot. "Mr. Sheridan, hello."

Elliot grunted in response. His gaze on Georgia grew colder, and a smirk played on his lips, contrasting with his indifferent expression.

Anyone who knew him would know he was angry.

Amanda smiled in satisfaction and leaned close to Elliot’s ear. They whispered something to each other, and a bashful smile blossomed on Amanda’s delicate face.

Georgia lowered her head, her eyelids drooping. Behind her back, she dug her nails even deeper into her own fingers.

’I have to endure this.’

’I’ve seen this countless times over the past three years. I should be used to it by now.’

’But never before have I felt more miserable than I do right now.’

Not long after Lynn and Hayley went upstairs, Hayley’s sharp, furious voice echoed down.

Things were just as bad as she had imagined.

Hayley came downstairs in a rage, walked over to Jared Thorne, and whispered a few words in his ear. The color drained from his face.

Amanda, not knowing what had happened, asked, "What’s wrong?"

Jared glanced hesitantly at Elliot. He couldn’t bring himself to discuss his own daughter’s divorce in front of an outsider.

Elliot, however, seemed to read the room. "I have things to attend to this afternoon. I should be going now. I’ll come visit another day."

"Of course, of course!" Jared forced a smile.

Amanda was reluctant to see him go. ’Elliot just got here. What on earth happened?’ freeweɓnøvel.com

After seeing Elliot off, the group returned inside.

Lynn came down the stairs, her eyes red from crying. "Dad, Mom, Finn Sutton and I are divorced!"

"Say that again!"

Jared’s eyes bulged with anger. His large, heavy body swayed, and Hayley quickly steadied him.

"Honey, don’t be angry. Sit down first!" Hayley shot Amanda a look, and Amanda immediately came forward. Together, they helped Jared to the sofa.

Jared was so furious his neck turned red and the veins on his forehead bulged. "You’ve got some nerve! I raised you all these years just so you could get a divorce!"

He slammed his hand on the table. "What the hell happened! Speak!"

Lynn bit her lip, unwilling to speak. Being challenged by the other woman—and losing—was humiliating.

"Fine, you won’t talk? Then call Finn Sutton! I want to see what he has to say!" Jared ordered Hayley to call the Sutton family.

Lynn cut her off. "There’s no need to call! I’ve already signed the divorce papers. There’s no turning back!"

The ever-submissive Lynn was being stubborn for the first time.

"Then tell me why you suddenly got a divorce! What did you do?!" Jared was panting with rage.

Lynn stood stiffly, refusing to say a word.

Hayley kept shooting her meaningful glances from the side, but Lynn acted as if she didn’t see them.

After more than half a minute of dead silence, Jared saw she still wasn’t talking and immediately ordered a maid to bring him a cane.

"Lynn, just tell us what happened! Don’t be stubborn with your father!"

Hayley watched anxiously as the maid approached with the cane, and she urgently prompted her eldest daughter.

"There’s nothing to say. A divorce is a divorce. Saying more won’t help!" Lynn bent her knees and knelt before Jared. "I know my divorce from Finn hurts your business interests. Dad, you’re angry. If you want to hit me, then hit me. I won’t have a single complaint!"

"So you won’t have a complaint, huh!" Furious, Jared snatched the cane from the maid. "You and Finn Sutton were married for so many years, and you get divorced without a word to anyone! What do you take us for? To think the Thorne family would produce a hero like you! You could have learned anything, but you chose to learn how to get a divorce!"

"Dad, go ahead and hit me. Hit me until you’re not angry anymore!"

Jared was already angry enough to hit someone, and Lynn’s cool, detached tone only provoked him further.

Jared stood up, but as he raised the cane, Hayley grabbed his arm tightly. "Honey, Lynn knows she was wrong! Please, let her off this once!"

"Lynn, hurry up and apologize to your father! Quickly!"

Kneeling on the floor, Lynn pressed her lips together and remained silent.

Her expression, as if she were facing death itself, only fueled Jared’s rage.

"Get out of my way!" Jared forcefully shoved Hayley aside and swung the cane down.

"Dad, no! Big Sis has her reasons!" Seeing Jared was actually bringing the cane down, Georgia couldn’t stop herself from rushing forward to shield Lynn’s body.

The cane landed on Georgia’s right arm with a sickening thud.

Georgia gasped in pain. A cold sweat broke out all over her body, and her face turned deathly pale in an instant.

Jared was in a fit of pure rage, and the blow had naturally been packed with all his anger and strength.

"Third Sis!" Lynn turned anxiously to check Georgia’s injury.

Lynn had closed her eyes, ready to take the blow from Jared. She never expected Georgia to step in and take it for her.

The pain sent Georgia stumbling to the ground. Her right arm was already numb, devoid of feeling. "Big Sis, just tell them what happened!"

"Third Sis, I’m so sorry!" Lynn hugged Georgia and burst into tears.

Hayley was also stunned by Georgia’s actions. Seeing the two sisters hugging, she cleared her throat twice.

’How can my own daughter hug an illegitimate one?’ She simply turned her head and looked away.

Amanda, who had been standing to the side, watched the drama unfold with an amused expression from start to finish.

Jared threw the cane down hard. "Speak! What the hell is going on!"

Lynn told Jared and Hayley the whole story.

Jared grew even angrier after hearing it. "You’re divorcing Finn Sutton over such a trivial matter? You just handed over the title of Mrs. Sutton to that mistress for no good reason!"

"Dad, that mistress is pregnant, and the entire Sutton family is protecting her! What’s the use of me holding on to the title of Mrs. Sutton?!"

"You’re just brainless! And to think you’re your mother’s daughter. Why couldn’t you learn a thing or two from her?!"

Jared was so angry he spoke without thinking. Hearing his words, Hayley’s expression turned ugly.

"Dad, the Suttons won’t give me my child now. I want to sue them!" Lynn glanced at him. "Dad, can you help me? The money I have on hand..."

"Get out!" Jared became even more furious when he heard this. So she was here to ask him for money.

"Lynn Thorne, I’ll make this clear right now. If you get back together with Finn Sutton, you are still my daughter. But if you’re dead set on not being with him, then get the hell out of my sight! The Thorne family doesn’t have a daughter like you!"

Lynn had already considered this possibility before she even came.

"I understand," she replied calmly.

She hadn’t held out much hope to begin with, but hearing her own father speak so decisively was still a disappointment.

"Then I’ll be leaving now!" Lynn helped Georgia up, and they walked toward the door.

"I’m telling you, if you walk out that door, you’re no daughter of mine!"

Furious, Jared turned his back. He watched them reach the door, glared, and then stormed into another room.

"Lynn, you really are..." Hayley didn’t know how to lecture her daughter.

’She’s in her thirties, yet she has so little tolerance.’

’So what if the mistress is pregnant? Even if she gives birth to a son, he’ll still be illegitimate.’

’In a wealthy family, a child like that can never be openly acknowledged!’

Lynn smiled. "Mom, I’m leaving now."

Lynn might seem meek, but she was the type of person who couldn’t tolerate a single grain of sand in her eyes.

She could never be like Hayley, who could turn a blind eye and rest easy knowing that Jared had other women on the side.

Hayley sighed, watching her eldest daughter walk away. Then she remembered what Jared had said, and her expression grew even uglier.

’If he hadn’t let that slip, I never would have known that the man I’ve slept beside for so many years actually thought of me that way!’

Lynn hailed a taxi and headed straight for the hospital.

"Third Sis, this is all my fault!" Lynn wanted to look at Georgia’s arm, but she was afraid of accidentally hurting her.

The moment Jared’s cane came down, she truly thought it was going to hit her. She had been mentally prepared for it.
