Chapter 1194: Chapter 1194: A Fatherly Gaze

Ryan Walyon stared at him like that for a moment, zoning out for a brief second.

"If there’s nothing else, we’re going up first." Watt Bennet didn’t even seem to have the slightest intention of acknowledging him, he grabbed Summer Sutton’s hand and strode with her into the office building.

Ryan Walyon stood there stiffly, watching the two of them walk away, his gaze sinking...

After Summer Sutton arrived at Watt Bennet’s office, she stayed with him for a simple breakfast, then went to Royal Delight to work.

Summer didn’t know if Rain Carter was following Manuel Ink’s instructions or just thought she was a promising talent, but Rain treated her with particular care.

Whenever there was a good learning opportunity, Summer would definitely be sent up; and when Rain made plans with friends inside or outside the circle, as long as the person had some reputation, she would bring Summer along.

Like today: less than an hour after Summer got to the office, she went with her to meet a friend.

Summer had originally assumed that the person Rain was meeting would be some celebrity.

Who knew that when they got there, the person sitting in the café turned out to be a middle‑aged man.

Summer had met him before, at the Hughes Group.

Lorraine Hughes’s father, Henry Hughes.

When he saw Summer, he also seemed a bit surprised; he stared at her for quite a while before snapping back to himself.

"We meet again." He greeted Summer first, then motioned for the two of them to sit down.

"Hello, Mr. Hughes." Summer greeted him politely.

"Mm." Henry Hughes nodded and handed them the menu.

Summer had only just finished breakfast not long ago and wasn’t hungry, so she casually ordered a dessert and a drink.

Rain and Henry Hughes also ordered a few things after that. The three of them had only been sitting there for a few minutes when Lorraine Hughes walked in with a smile. "Dad, did you come to see me?"

The place they’d arranged to meet was near Royal Delight, so it wasn’t strange for Lorraine to say that.

But as soon as she walked in and saw Summer sitting at the table, the smile on her face instantly froze.

She stared blankly at Summer for a moment, then looked at Henry Hughes; the color drained a little from Lorraine’s face.

Summer didn’t know if it was her imagination, but she even caught a flash of panic in Lorraine’s eyes.

Seeing her like this made Summer pause for a second.

What was she nervous about?

What was there to be nervous about just because she and Henry Hughes were meeting?

Summer really couldn’t figure out what Lorraine’s look was supposed to mean. She racked her brain and still couldn’t make sense of it, so she simply chalked it up to her own eyes playing tricks on her.

Lorraine’s face stayed pale for a few seconds, then she quickly regained her composure.

Acting like nothing was wrong, she walked over and sat down next to Henry Hughes.

"What a coincidence, Producer Carter and Miss Sutton are here too."

"I’ve been wanting to set up a meeting with Mr. Hughes for a long time, but he just never had the time." Rain Carter explained.

She was the one who’d asked Dad out?

Lorraine was a bit surprised.

Turning Rain’s words over in her head, she felt much more at ease.

"Producer Carter, there’s no need to go to so much trouble in the future. We all know each other so well—if you want to schedule something with my dad, just tell me directly. As long as you want to talk business with him, my dad has to make time for you no matter how busy he is, right?" Pouring herself a cup of tea, Lorraine said.

Rain Carter just smiled and didn’t say anything.

The four of them sat together and continued chatting.

Every time Henry Hughes looked at Summer, he couldn’t help but stare at her a few times longer.

The way he looked at Summer was extremely warm, even a bit tender—very much like a father looking at his daughter.

Summer really hadn’t expected Lorraine to have a father like that.
