Chapter 44: Chapter 44: The Special Fishing Rod Really Can Catch Special Items

Huh, Mr. Pierce actually posted that message three times in a row. Considering his status, Faye Yardley figured it was perfectly normal for him to give such a warning.

[Whoa, a big shot has appeared. First off, have a like.]

[It’s true that treasure chests are getting harder to fish up. Even catching sea fish is tough now. Food and water are going to become even more scarce.]

[Upvoting the big shot’s reminder to the top. As for food and water, didn’t you all stock up before? If you can’t, just grow some yourselves.]

[What is a Basic Wood House Upgrade Voucher? It’s not even for sale on the trading market. Has anyone found one? Urgently seeking!]

[Damn it, help! A flying fish just speared my ass! I desperately need a Hemostatic Pill!]

Sure enough, the regional channel was as frantic as ever.

She also wondered if she was just cursed to cross paths with Hailey Miles; every time she glanced at the regional channel, she would see her talking. ’What rotten luck!’

BEEP BEEP BEEP~

She accepted the call from her friends list.

Bonnie Callahan: "Hon, you’re back! Did you see my message?"

Faye Yardley replied, embarrassed, "Sorry, I’ve been busy ever since I got back from the Dungeon. I haven’t had a chance to check my DMs. What’s up?"

As she spoke, she scrolled up through Bonnie Callahan’s messages. The moment she saw the pretty hairband, she said, "I need that. Sell it to me."

A Red Envelope quickly came through from the other side.

"It’s a gift. Can I ask you about Dungeon 3?"

"Thanks, Miss Bonnie. Dungeon 3 is a five-person instance, and it’s all about killing zombies. If you don’t kill them, you get basically no rewards. If you’re going to enter, you’d better train up a bit first."

"Hon, thank you so much for the heads-up! I get it now. I won’t go near any Dungeons until I’m strong enough. Mwah!"

"Oh, right, one more thing. Polluted monsters have started appearing in the sea. You should check if there are any around your raft. Be careful if you see one, and try your best not to go in the water."

This reminded Faye Yardley of something she had forgotten. "Okay, I’ll keep an eye out. Thanks for the warning, Miss Bonnie."

After hanging up, Faye Yardley thought about telling her brother about the polluted sea monsters, but the cross-regional call system notified her that she could only make one call per day, and she had already used up her turn.

Faye Yardley really wanted to complain. ’Is it really okay for a system to be this stingy?’

She opened the small group chat. It was as lively as ever, making Faye Yardley suspect it might already have dozens, if not hundreds, of members.

Faye Yardley: Miss Bonnie just told me that polluted monsters have started appearing near some people’s rafts. Has anyone else run into them?

Wade Warren: One appeared around my raft, and the number of fish in my area plummeted. I’m tempted to jump in and fight it to the death.

Gavin Donovan: My First Senior Brother already took care of one. He said the rewards for killing a polluted Sea Monster are even better than opening a treasure chest. I’m actually looking forward to one appearing.

Wade Warren: ...

Bonnie Callahan: I wish we could invite friends to our rafts to help out.

Faye Yardley: Good idea. That will probably be possible in the future. We can’t be expected to drift around alone forever. If we can team up in Dungeons, we should be able to do it outside them too.

Zachary Pierce: @Gavin Donovan, how does your First Senior Brother’s Combat Power compare to yours? Was it hard for him to kill the Sea Monster?

Gavin Donovan: He’s about the same as me. My First Senior Brother said it took a bit of effort.

Zachary Pierce: Understood, thank you. I’ll let everyone know after I give it a try.

Faye Yardley had originally brought up the topic to let everyone know about the generous rewards for killing Sea Monsters. Since they already knew, it saved her the effort.

Putting on her poncho and rain boots, Faye Yardley prepared to fish for treasure chests from a corner of the raft, using two rods at once.

She was eager to see what sort of special items the 300-point fishing rod could reel in.

Meanwhile, after getting the tip from his First Senior Brother, Gavin Donovan contacted his Second Senior Brother.

Henry Lewis: "Little Junior Brother, you’re incredible! You even made a server-wide announcement. Tell your big brother, what kind of good loot did you get in the Dungeon?"

Remembering that his First Senior Brother had said their Second Senior Brother was cultivating a state of equanimity and shouldn’t be agitated with good news lest it disrupt his focus, Gavin Donovan omitted his great gains and instead emphasized the hardships of the Dungeon.

"Second Senior Brother, you know I was hired by a boss, so I didn’t get much from clearing the Dungeon. But the boss is a good person; she gave me six Basic Body Refining Pills and some wood. Our martial brothers can split them, two pills each. I’ll put the wood up in a designated trade in a bit, so remember to accept it, Second Senior Brother. I’ll send you the Body Refining Pills directly in a Red Envelope." ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom

"Your boss is way too cheap! All that for a Dungeon that took three days? You shouldn’t work with her next time. That girl doesn’t seem like a good person."

Gavin Donovan: ...

He couldn’t believe his ears. ’How could Second Senior Brother say something like that?’

Faye Yardley reeled in her left fishing rod, then her right. She wasn’t experiencing any of the difficulties that others on the regional channel were complaining about.

’Isn’t this easy?’

She would just casually cast the line, and a moment later, she’d have a catch.

Her old fishing rod only ever caught the usual stuff, but the special fishing rod was living up to its name.

So far, she had made four catches: a letter, a tattered wallet, a key, and a round bead.

Don’t ask how she managed to fish up a round bead. She had no idea, either.

The letter was sealed. The recipient was probably an NPC, as it was addressed: "For the Island Master of Island No. 1157."

Faye Yardley didn’t open it. She recalled some of the novels she had read and vaguely remembered that if you messed with an NPC’s belongings, they would come to hate you—in serious cases, they might even hunt you down.

She wasn’t one to pry into others’ privacy, nor was she particularly curious, so she decided to just keep the letter in her Wooden House.

’It might come in handy later, and it’s not like it takes up any space. No need to toss it back into the sea.’

While waiting for another bite, Faye Yardley opened the tattered wallet. Inside was a photo of a cute little girl hugging a dog, along with a single Gold Coin.

"Huh, a Gold Coin? Does this mean The Survival World has a common currency?"

[Congratulations, you have obtained one Gold Coin. Would you like to deposit it into your personal account?]

"Yes."

The Gold Coin in Faye Yardley’s hand vanished. A new section, "Savings Account," appeared under her personal information panel, showing a balance of 1 gold.

Strangely, despite the appearance of a brand-new feature, there was no system announcement. It was as if the whole thing had happened in secret.

Faye Yardley muttered to herself, "Looks like I really need to try and remember the novels I’ve read. This must be extremely important."

’Huh, there’s a treasure chest.’

Faye Yardley stood up to reel in the treasure chest. With her increased Strength, she hauled it in with a single, swift pull. THUD! The chest slammed onto the raft.

She dragged the treasure chest under the awning before approaching it. She had no choice—the rain was coming down harder and was about to affect her visibility.

By noon, she had already caught five treasure chests and plenty of fish and shrimp. It was a bountiful haul, to say the least.

Her incredibly high Luck Value meant she remained completely unaffected by the supposed difficulty.

She picked up the round bead and examined it closely, only to discover that it was actually a...
