Chapter 45: Chapter 45: You Will Meet Others at Sea
’This is an information orb?!’
Countless tiny characters were floating inside. ’Those have to be characters, right? At any rate, Faye Yardley couldn’t recognize a single one.’
They didn’t belong to any language she knew.
’How am I supposed to read the information in this orb?’
Asking the system yielded no response.
’Forget it. If I can’t figure it out, I’ll just store it away for now. Same goes for the key.’
Her backpack now had 50 slots, which made storing things increasingly convenient.
The wind and waves on the sea surface looked much rougher, but the raft remained as steady as ever. Seeing people on the public channel complain that their rafts were unstable, drifting aimlessly, and might even be capsized by a big wave, Faye Yardley figured her raft’s increased level must have given it stronger resistance to the waves.
The moment she left the canopy, the wind and rain battered her directly. Faye Yardley thought, ’If this were the old me, I’d probably be crawling on the raft just to avoid being blown away. But now, I can move around like normal.’
Returning to the warmth of the fireplace, Faye Yardley casually tossed the four special items into a coffee table drawer. Then she went to the kitchen, deciding she could make herself some seaweed soup, pan-fried fish fillets, and a pot of white rice.
She had gotten rice from a chest before, and now was the perfect time to use it. She hadn’t eaten any rice since coming to this world.
’It’s so great that the new kitchen came with a rice cooker.’
After a wonderful lunch, Faye Yardley washed her hands and prayed devoutly, "Heavenly spirits, earthly spirits, Daddy System is the most super-effective spirit!"

"Quintupled! What am I supposed to do with quintupled blueprints?! Aaaargh..."
’Getting a quintuple multiplier on any of the previous chests would have been great.’
She really felt that one blueprint was enough for this kind of thing.
’Oh well. I’ll give a copy to my brother and sell the rest.’
Unfortunately, she couldn’t contact her brother again today.
With the chest opening done, Faye Yardley decided to check the public channel to unwind. The storm outside was getting worse, so it wasn’t a good time to go out fishing anymore—not that she had any particular obsession with fishing, anyway.
’Though in this awful weather, some fishing fanatics would probably still be out there.’
’Rest for half an hour, then practice my Skills, and have Donovan guide my training tonight.’
Having made a simple plan, Faye Yardley lay down on the sofa with a clear conscience, looking at the virtual screen in front of her.
[I’m about to die. I was trying to kill one of the contaminated things in the sea, but it ended up seriously injuring me. I barely managed to crawl back onto my raft, but I don’t think I’ll last much longer.]
[Kyle Lewis: Person above me, accept my friend request. I’ll give you a Blood Replenishing Potion. Buy a Hemostatic Pill for yourself, and you should be able to survive.]
[Yo, person above me, how about you give me a Blood Replenishing Potion, too? I’m injured, you know. Why are you pretending to be a good person here?]
[Shows your true nature! In the eyes of a beast, everything looks like a beast.]
[Today is the first day after the protection period ended, and the total population in our region has already dropped below 900,000. Wouldn’t it be better if we all helped each other out?]
[Oh my god, I can see another raft floating in the distance from my raft! We can actually run into each other!]
Faye Yardley didn’t care what else anyone was saying. She shot up, leaped off the sofa, and rushed to the balcony connected to the living room.
Sheets of rain streamed down the large floor-to-ceiling glass of the balcony, and the storm obscured her vision. Still, Faye Yardley strained her eyes, trying to see if any other rafts had appeared nearby.
To her, this was a terrifying prospect. People’s hearts were impossible to fathom; she would rather encounter a contaminated Sea Monster.
Even though she had killed countless zombies, that was completely different from killing a living, breathing human being.
Who knows if the people you meet are good or bad? If you met someone with malicious intent who was also good at hiding it, they wouldn’t listen to reason, and could you even see through their disguise?
In any case, Faye Yardley admitted she had no skill in judging character. She could only hope her Luck Value and good fortune would remain as reliable as ever.
She couldn’t see anything, but that didn’t put Faye Yardley’s mind at ease. She decided to start practicing the skills granted by the Skill Books right away.
Aside from shooting, which she didn’t have the means to practice at the moment, she could work on all the others.
She stored the wooden bed from the small room directly into her inventory. She didn’t need a guest room; she could turn this space into a dedicated training room. In the future, she could add some fitness equipment when she had the chance. freēwēbnovel.com
Sometimes, knowing something is one thing, but actually doing it is another. She was performing the movements according to the understanding granted by the Skill Book, but they felt all sorts of awkward. Something always felt off.
She adjusted and practiced again and again, and time passed without her noticing.
By the time she snapped out of it, she was completely drenched in sweat, as if she’d been pulled out of water. She took a shower, changed her clothes, and was even in the mood to braid her hair with a ribbon.
She was certainly tired, but her physical stats had improved and her recovery rate was increasing. More importantly, her heart was constantly supplying her with energy.
After an afternoon of training, her body felt a little tired, but her Spirit was high.
She used the leftover rice from lunch to make a simple seafood risotto, taking care of dinner.
She tossed 10 coal briquettes and 20 pieces of charcoal into the fireplace. She was afraid she might forget to add more later, and she reminded herself not to let something bad happen because of such an oversight.
DING DING DING. Gavin Donovan took the initiative and called first.
"Boss, are we still starting training at 7 PM sharp tonight? Do you need to start a bit earlier?"
"Yeah, let’s stick to 7 PM sharp. Have you had dinner? Did you catch any treasure chests or seafood today?"
"I’ve eaten. I’m not short on food or water right now. This morning, I used the special fishing rod and pulled up a giant’s shoe. My luck is as bad as ever. After I learned the swimming Skill Book, I just jumped into the sea to catch seafood directly. It’s way more effective than fishing for me."
Toward the end of his sentence, Faye Yardley could clearly sense his excitement.
"It seems that Skill Book was very useful for you."
"Yes, it’s incredibly useful. Thank you so much, Boss. If it weren’t for your reminders, just eating every day would be a huge problem. Oh, right, do you want the giant’s shoe?"
"You keep it. You might need it for a mission later on. And you don’t have to keep thanking me. Have any other people’s rafts appeared near you?"
"No, not even any contaminated Sea Monsters. It’s such a shame."
Faye Yardley looked at the regretful expression on Gavin Donovan’s face and was speechless. ’Isn’t it a good thing that there aren’t any?’
’Perhaps to become a top-tier expert, you have to be like Gavin Donovan, constantly craving battle.’
