Chapter 43: Chapter 43: Advancement, That’s It?
After a lengthy conversation, Ethan Yardley finally understood that his little sister was doing very well in this game.
Then, before he could even prepare anything for his sister, he received a pile of items transferred via Red Envelopes during the call.
Basic and Intermediate Wooden House Upgrade Coupons, an Intermediate Body Refining Pill, a warm fashion outfit set, a protective jacket, men’s gloves, a Space Stone, a "Basic Martial Arts Skills" Skill Book, and so on.
What was even more ridiculous was that out of the daily quota of ten Red Envelopes, the other nine were all filled with wood x99.
She even complained to him that the system was too stingy for not loosening the limit on the quantity of a single item in a Red Envelope, preventing her from stuffing in as much as she wanted.
She said the wood was for him to upgrade his raft. He was already on a Level Five Raft, which should have put him among the top tier of players, but he kept quiet when he watched his sister upgrade her own raft to Level 6 during their call.
’Now, why does it feel like I, a grown man, am being kept by my little sister?!’
He was still in a bit of a daze after hanging up.
Faye Yardley thought her brother’s expression as he received the Red Envelopes was hilarious.
’Hahaha... It’s finally my turn to take care of my big brother. That goofy look on his face.’
After laughing for a while, tears streamed from the corners of Faye Yardley’s eyes. But these were tears of happy relief; at that moment, she felt a great weight lift from her body and soul.
’This is wonderful. My brother is safe, and I actually did what I told myself I would do at the beginning! I can take care of him now.’
’I’ll become even stronger in the future!’
As she thought this, she naturally placed her right hand over her heart. She could feel it give a powerful beat, as if in response to her thoughts.
She let out a long breath, wiped away her tears, and collected herself.
The wind howling outside reminded her that becoming stronger was the only thing that truly mattered.
"System, show me the Dungeon clearance summary."
[Dungeon 3: Your squad’s zombie-killing progress is 30% complete. Investigation of the cause of human infection is 41.2% complete. Survival for three days has been achieved. Congratulations on successfully clearing the Dungeon. As the squad leader, do you wish to save the Dungeon’s progress?]
Faye Yardley couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow. ’Dungeons can save their progress?’
’Does that mean we’ll continue from here if we enter again?’
"Yes."
[Progress saved.]
"System, where are the clearance rewards?"
The system didn’t answer at all. Apparently, the only rewards for the Dungeon were the points earned from killing zombies inside, which could then be exchanged for items.
’If you’re too scared to kill zombies, doesn’t that mean you’d get nothing and still have to waste a Dungeon Invitation Card?’
’The system really is a cheapskate.’
’No wonder it only said we had cleared it and could return. Turns out there were no bonus rewards.’
’Even a little wood would have been a nice reward.’
After complaining in her head, Faye Yardley didn’t dwell on it. After all, their haul had been considerable.
’Besides, she had already obtained the most important thing inside the Dungeon, hadn’t she?’
She patted her chest. ’This is the most, most important thing.’
Completing the third wave of zombies had earned her one free attribute point, and the server-first kill had also awarded one, giving her a total of two free attribute points.
In the second wave, she had obtained a pendant that increased her charm (+1).
Along with the "Seed of Hope," she had received a ring that increased her agility (+1).
’And with all the things she’d exchanged her points for, she’d really hit the jackpot.’
As for the other items she found while killing zombies, they had all been converted into progress toward "investigating the truth."
Faye Yardley took out the three Skill Books. She thought she could just tap them to learn the skills automatically, but that wasn’t the case.
She patiently flipped through them, page by page. She didn’t really understand the contents, but that didn’t stop her from reading intently.
After she finished flipping through one book, the Skill Book dissolved into a white speck of light that flew into the space between her eyebrows. All the parts she hadn’t been able to comprehend were suddenly, automatically understood.
’So that’s how you use a Skill Book.’
It took her nearly an hour to learn all three Skill Books in this manner.
"System, show my personal Attributes."
Name: Faye Yardley

Faye Yardley couldn’t help but smile as she looked at her Attributes. "Put both attribute points into Spirit," she said.
Her spirit value instantly became 11. With four of her Attributes now over 10, a system notification followed.
[Congratulations, player. With four Attributes over 10, you have stepped into the First Tier. Keep up the good work; you are on the path to becoming stronger.]
"That’s it?" ƒreewebɳovel.com
The words had barely left her mouth when the system actually set off fireworks in front of her.
Watching the fireworks bloom one after another on the screen before her, Faye Yardley felt thoroughly exasperated.
’Alright, alright, you’re the expert at messing around.’
’You’re the system, you’re the boss. What you say goes.’
"Turn off the fireworks. They’re dazzling."
Then, Faye Yardley took out the Intermediate Wooden House Upgrade Coupon and upgraded her Wooden House.
After three minutes of clanging and banging, the space inside the house was drastically different.
The area expanded from 30 square meters to 100, and the new three-bedroom, two-living-area, two-bathroom, and one-balcony layout was awesome.
The most significant change was the kitchen, which was now larger and neater, complete with a glass sliding door. A quick glance inside revealed it was much more fully featured than before. The refrigerator was bigger, and an integrated oven and a bone crusher had been added.
’So the integrated kitchen was limited by the Wooden House’s area before?’
She moved her workbench into an empty room, which instantly became her workshop.
The master bedroom came with its own bathroom, which was fantastic. It was as if she were expecting guests.
She moved the original simple wooden bed into a smaller room, then selected the High Level Comfortable Wooden Bed Blueprint to craft the new one. After it was made, Faye Yardley discovered it truly lived up to its "High Level" name—lying on it accelerated the recovery of her energy and stamina.
She placed it in the master bedroom, moving the comfortable mattress over as well.
The living room was much larger now; you could no longer see the fireplace immediately upon pushing the door open.
There was now at least enough space by the entrance to place a shoe rack.
She rearranged the things in the house again, setting everything up in whatever way was most comfortable and convenient for her.
The Level 6 raft now had a total area of 500 square meters.
The previously T-shaped raft had become a rectangle, with the 100-square-meter Wooden House situated on the right side of one end.
She completed the wooden fence once again.
Only then did Faye Yardley have the energy to turn her attention to the regional channel.
[Damn it, when will the Wooden House get a bathroom? I really don’t want to have to stick my ass out over the ocean in the rain anymore.]
[Hailey Miles: I heard that if you upgrade the Wooden House with a Basic Wooden House Upgrade Coupon, it comes with a bathroom.]
[Is the temperature this low during the day now? It’s almost 9 AM and I haven’t hooked a single chest. Is that normal?]
[Zachary Pierce: Fire can drive away sea monsters and keep them from attacking your raft. Everyone should try to keep a fire going on your raft when night comes, otherwise you probably won’t be able to sleep peacefully. Also, stock up on wood. If your raft is damaged, you can use wood to repair it.] x3
