Chapter 196: Chapter 196: New Event Details
No matter how you look at it, the clear-headed always suffer more than the masses who just go with the flow.
Faye Yardley had no idea how to comfort those people.
Her stomach full, she was enjoying a rare moment of indolence, simply lying on the sofa and watching the various messages scroll by on the public channel.
Perhaps the initial excitement had worn off, as the comments now seemed much calmer. Some people were already starting to worry about the next potential event.
’Actually, going with the flow is pretty good. At least it means you’re adaptable.’ Faye Yardley wasn’t really the type to just go with the flow.
In truth, she was a firm believer that hard work pays off.
As long as you didn’t give up the will to live, every ounce of effort you put in would eventually be rewarded.
And anyone who had made it this far—even those spouting nonsense in the public channel—was, in reality, strong enough on the inside.
Because the ones who weren’t strong enough had already failed to hold on, becoming just another digit in the dwindling population count.
Faye Yardley didn’t know where this sudden bout of sentimentality had come from.
’This isn’t like me at all.’
’I just thought about how hard work pays off, yet here I am lazing around. Unforgivable.’
Faye Yardley took a deep breath, sat up, and immediately crossed her legs to begin her Cultivation of the Health Care Scripture.
She had missed a few days, but thankfully, her practice felt as familiar as ever.
Immersed in her Cultivation, Faye Yardley ignored all messages, including incoming calls.
Ethan Yardley called, but his sister didn’t pick up, so he could only leave her a message: Faye, I’ve decided to use the guild base voucher. I’m going to check out the base and see what the situation is. If the base is really a continent, then even if we can only occupy a tiny piece of it, it’s our hope of setting foot on land again. Oh, right, add my All World Communication. I’ve already sent you a friend request, so accept it when you see it.
Obviously, Faye Yardley couldn’t see any of this right now.
By the time she finished this phase of her Cultivation, her brother was already long gone.
’Well, so much for my brother’s maturity and composure.’
Faye Yardley took a rare look at the two group chats her brother had created. They were still buzzing with activity. The thousand-person group seemed to have no clue about his whereabouts; clearly, her brother hadn’t planned on saying anything until after he succeeded.
And even if he did, he might not announce it publicly.
Faye Yardley was ready to give her brother a perfect score for his caution. Thankfully, he wasn’t the type to brag or get ahead of himself, and it seemed the people on his team weren’t holding him back either.
The smaller group chat consisted of his team members, plus her. It was full of speculation about his trip to the base.
After watching for a bit, Faye Yardley learned that her brother had only taken two squad leaders, Gavin Donovan, and Tiberius. With a five-person team, their combat strength was assured. That put her mind at ease.
Just as Faye Yardley was about to head to the training room, a system announcement rang out.
[Dear Players, good evening. Today is July 17th. With more than half of July already passed, you will soon be welcoming your loved ones. However, the ocean has accumulated a great deal of trash over this time. To ensure your loved ones have a better survival experience at sea, a Marine Debris Cleanup event will begin promptly at 6:00 AM on July 20th. Please see the event details for more information.] x3
After the announcement, which was as brilliant as a firework display, repeated three times, the public channel exploded into a frenzy of messages.
Even though each person could only post three times a day, this flood of messages made it clear that there were still plenty of survivors in the region.
Surprisingly, this event actually came with a detailed description.
That had never happened before.
Faye Yardley was not so arrogant as to ignore it. On the contrary, she read it carefully, word by word.
But for all that it was called "details," the description consisted of only a few sentences.
[Event Details—
Start Date: 6:00 AM sharp, July 20th, Sea Survival Calendar.
Event Content: Clean up the debris that appears around your raft. The more debris you clean, the more points you will earn (points can be spent in the event’s Point Mall).
Friendly Reminder: Cleaning marine debris requires a trash receptacle! Otherwise, with your raft piled high with trash, where will you live? Tossing trash back into the sea will result in a double point deduction!]
That was the entirety of the "details."
Now, the public channel was filled with people wailing about having sold the trash receptacles they’d found in chests, while others claimed they’d never even seen one and had just been throwing all their trash directly into the sea.
Faye Yardley frowned slightly. She felt like she should know something about this, but the memory was hazy and she couldn’t quite recall it.
’Trash receptacles of all sizes needed for collecting debris...’
After wracking her brain, Faye Yardley finally recalled something. She wasn’t completely sure, but she decided to share it in her own group chat and with Eleanor Jonas.
Faye Yardley: The Point Mall will have trash receptacles for exchange. Those who don’t have one can start by collecting debris first, then use the points to get one. It might even be possible to rent one temporarily. The system will always give us a chance. This is just my guess, so it might not be accurate. We’ll know for sure if we check the event’s Point Mall right when the event starts.
Eleanor Jonas’s reply came quickly. She sincerely thanked her for the suggestion, adding that the final piece of advice was particularly useful. She said she would go post a reminder in the public channel and asked Faye Yardley to also post it in the national and regional channels. After all, Faye was a big celebrity now; more people would be willing to believe her.
Seeing Eleanor Jonas’s message, Faye Yardley paused for three seconds before copying and pasting her previous message into both public channels.
The likes came in so fast that her message was quickly pinned to the top.
[Whoa, it’s the living legend! Hey, I can’t speak for anyone else, but I’ll definitely trust your analysis.]
[I’m with the expert.]
[+1]
[Legend, legend, can we see your mount? *curious face*]
[This is why she’s a legend. While we’re all panicking, she’s already writing the strategy guide.]
[I have a question for the expert: do you think the event will *only* be about cleaning trash? I have a bad feeling about this.]
[Do you even need to ask? You should always be prepared for a fight.]
[Better fish for more chests in the next two days. If we get a fishing net or a trash receptacle, we can save some points.]
[The legend’s mount. Don’t thank me, I’m just reposting. Skeletal Warhorse.jpg]
Faye Yardley saw it all, of course, since she was keeping an eye on both channels. She agreed with the comment about being prepared for a fight and even quickly gave it a like.
As for the photo of her mount that someone posted, she had taken it herself. When she sent it to Logan Langdon, she had already mentally accepted that it would get leaked.
Of course, he might not have been the one who personally did it, but Faye Yardley automatically pinned the blame on him anyway.
If anyone were to ask why, it’s simply because he’d made the worst impression on her.
