Chapter 197: Chapter 197: Temptation from the Demon
The members in the small group chat panicked for a moment, all of them denying they had leaked the photo.
Faye Yardley immediately reassured them, saying she knew.
She didn’t want something so trivial to make the atmosphere in the group chat turn awkward.
RING RING~
Glancing at the caller ID, Faye Yardley answered. "Mr. Pierce, it’s rare to get a call from you. Oh, right, congratulations on passing the qualification test."
"Thank you. By the way, that phone..."
"You want another one? Then I’m sorry, but I’m out."
Zachary Pierce shook his head. "No, I’m not bold enough to just ask you for one. I was just wondering if there’s a way to acquire them."
"Oh," Faye Yardley said. "The first one I got by trading with a friend from The Merfolk. The second one I got from a Vampire Clan Earl in Dungeon 2. Neither of those methods is repeatable. However, I think the odds would be much better if you used a Refined Island Entry Order to land on an island with a civilized city. The catch is, you need to have enough money."
"A Refined Island Entry Order? And by money, do you mean the Gold Coins you gave me last time? We’ve actually acquired some of those recently, but we don’t have a Refined Island Entry Order."
"You can combine three regular ones to make a refined one."
"Ah," Zachary Pierce said. "That’s extremely useful information. Well, I’m racking up more and more debts with you. My skin must be getting thicker."
"Haha... Don’t worry about it, Mr. Pierce. After all, as the creditor, I’m not even worried about the debtor skipping town."
"Yes, thank you very much for your trust in me, Yardley. I’m sending you something. Go ahead and accept it."
"What is it?"
Zachary Pierce just chuckled and sent over a Red Envelope. "Alright, I won’t keep you. Goodbye."
"Oh, bye-bye."
After hanging up, Faye Yardley accepted the Red Envelope. Inside was a gold-embossed Invitation Card.
Whether it was some strange, indescribable twist of fate or not, it was an Invitation Card from the City Lord of Lumina.
Faye Yardley felt a little conflicted about the gift.
But she quickly tossed the Invitation Card into her storage and decided not to think about it for the time being. The date on the invitation was August 15th.
’That’s still a month away. Who knows what could happen by then? No use overthinking it!’
She had finished watching the event announcement, taken the phone call, and read her brother’s message. She also accepted the friend requests from both her brother and Zachary Pierce.
Then, she used the All World Communication to send her brother a message: "Bro, there’s a garbage cleanup event over here on the 20th. How are things on your end?"
Unconcerned by the lack of an immediate reply, Faye Yardley headed straight for the training room.
Her Attributes had increased once again. Her Constitution was now at 30, and with the bonus from the leaderboards, her Strength had temporarily reached 30 as well. With stats like these, there was no way she wasn’t going to test just how strong she had become.
Willow Yardley slapped her forehead. She’d announced the magazine contest winners, but the prizes had to be claimed by the winners themselves.
The process was simple enough: the winner just had to confirm it in the notification letter they received.
’Oh well,’ she thought, ’three hours shouldn’t make a difference.’
It wasn’t just Faye Yardley who was working hard. In fact, anyone still alive in the World of Ocean Survival could hardly be called lazy.
Everyone was striving in their own way, and Henry Lewis, Gavin Donovan’s second senior brother, was no exception—though he wasn’t in a particularly good mood.
Logan Langdon had gone into a dungeon this time and hadn’t taken him along. And he considered himself one of the top three strongest members of the team.
’Heh, it’s not like he doesn’t have his own Dungeon Invitation Card. He just hadn’t wanted to use it casually before. But now? With the new event about to start, all he has to do is go into Dungeon 3, slaughter some zombies, and he’ll have everything he needs.’
’Besides, with Logan Langdon away, what could Hugh Langdon possibly do? It should be no problem to use this chance to rally a few of the other capable but overlooked members.’
He was a man of action. He also invited his first senior brother, Zephyr Sterling—a man of great power but few ambitions, making him the perfect teammate.
Zephyr Sterling considered his second junior brother’s invitation for a moment before agreeing. He also sent a batch of his newly drawn talismans to Faye Yardley.
On the public channel, more and more people were looking to buy garbage recycling bins. Zachary Pierce and his group were also organizing teams to enter Dungeon 1 and Dungeon 3, killing zombies to earn points in active preparation for the new event.
However, the number of entries that could be obtained from Dungeon Fragments was ultimately limited. For most people, the best option was still to fish for as many treasure chests as they could, hoping to unbox something good.
After all, experience had shown that items unboxed right before an event were almost always related to it.
How to use those items, however, was up to each individual.
Unlike the others, Jane Chandler was on edge. She didn’t know how to tell her son that, when the time came, he shouldn’t welcome his father and his new family onto his raft.
But if she didn’t say anything, what would happen when the system prompted her son to accept them, and he agreed out of the kindness of his heart?
She had been worrying about this ever since she reconnected with her son; after all, she’d never told him about the divorce.
She wasn’t particularly worried about the new event itself. After all, both she and her son had fishing nets and garbage bins on their rafts.
Bonnie Callahan was starting to feel that the special fishing rod she’d exchanged her points for in the dungeon was a foolish extravagance, as she had yet to catch a single thing with it.
That was 300 points! She had bit the bullet and bought it. If it never yielded a return, her heart would shatter.
Thankfully, her regular fishing rod always caught something, which helped to soothe her growing anxiety.
Just as she was losing hope and preparing to reel in her lines for the day, the special fishing rod actually twitched.
With all her might, she reeled it in. The catch was something Bonnie Callahan could never have imagined: a hair ornament shaped like a blooming peony.
[System Tip: This is a temptation from a Demon. It is best to discard it.]
Bonnie Callahan trusted the system’s warnings, but this was the very first catch from her special fishing rod. ’Just throw it back into the ocean?’
’I can’t bear to do it!’
When Faye Yardley left the training room this time, she only felt slightly fatigued—a huge improvement over previous sessions.
She was stunned for a moment when Willow Yardley told her she’d won the contest, but her surprise quickly turned to delight. After all, it was essentially a free prize.
After consulting with the system, the prize—a "greeting card"—materialized in her hand.
Instead of trading it for something else as she’d originally planned, she decided to use it herself right away.
She sent a greeting to Yvonne Lynch, telling her to add her All World Communication number.
Faye Yardley didn’t know how long it would take for the message to reach the recipient, but she felt wonderful, as if a weight had been lifted from her shoulders.
Two days passed in the blink of an eye. The new event was imminent. Faye Yardley had made all the preparations she could think of and was now simply waiting for 6:00 AM on the 20th.
