Chapter 508: Chapter 508 - Epilogue(Part 8)

The Monster raced away as Celes unleashed a volley of lightning bolts down towards her, evading them before glancing back as I chased after her.

She sprang off the ground with her tentacles as I fired a roaring blast of flames at her, evading it before hurling a large rock at me with one of her tentacles.

I batted it away with my tails, right as Celes swooped down towards her and whipped her blades out, a sharp clang ringing out as the Monster blocked her slashes with her arms.

As Celes began to fly away, her eyes widened in alarm as one of the Monster’s tentacles shot out and grabbed her leg, swinging her down and slamming her against the ground, right as I zipped forward, firing out a burst of blue flames at the middle of the tentacle, burning it before slicing right through it and severing it.

That slimy coating may make it tough to cut through those tentacles, but if I vaporize the slime with my flames, her tentacles are nothing more than soft chunks of meat, I can cut through them like a hot knife through butter.

Celes scrambled back onto her feet and unleashed a rapid blast of black lightning at the Monster, who narrowly blocked it with one of her tentacles, stiffened as I slipped behind her and drove my left arm towards the back of her head.

She quickly tilted her head across, my blade slicing deeply through the left side of her head, narrowly missing her Core before one of her tentacles slammed against my stomach with immense force, knocking the wind out of me as I got sent hurtling back through the air.

I gritted my teeth and spread out my wings sharply to cancel out the momentum and bring myself to a halt, right as Celes zipped up above the Monster and fired down a relentlessly flurry of lightning bolts down towards her.

The Monster quickly gathered her tentacles up above herself, charred chunks falling off as Celes’s lightning peppered the tentacles, damaging them faster than they could regenerate.

I shot forward at top speed, sending my tails shooting out with as much speed as I could generated, one wrapping around her torso, pinning her arms to her sides before she could react, thanks to her attention focused on blocking Celes’s lightning.

I sent my second tail shooting up towards the Monster’s head, before she swung her head across and snapped her jaws around the end of my tail, trapping it between her fangs as she struggled to try and break free of my grasp, trickles of blood running down her body as I sharpened my tail wrapped around her torso and constricted it, digging into her skin.

Suddenly, Celes’s lightning burst through the Monster’s tentacles, a lightning bolt shooting down and hitting the top of her head with a sharp crackle, severely dazing and disorienting the Monster.

As her grasp over my second tail with her teeth weakened, I broke free before plunging the tip of the tail into the side of her head, piercing through her skull and digging into her brain, before rapidly wrapping around her Core as it reached it.

The Monster shakily detached her damaged tentacles and began to try and grow new ones as fast as possible, gathering several above her as Celes continued firing her lightning bolts, two of the tentacles shooting out towards me.

But she was a fraction of a second too slow in raising her tentacles, one of Celes’s bolts slipping through her defense before the rest collided against the tentacles, the missed bolt of lightning hitting the Monster’s left shoulder as she shakily tilted her head across to the right.

I ducked under the two tentacles coming my way, before blowing them away with pressurized bursts of blue flames, feeling her Core crack as my tail continued to constrict around it, right as I lunged forward and drove the blade of my right hand through the side of her head, the blade tearing through before striking her Core, a violent shudder of agony erupting across her body as I shattered it upon impact.

I pulled my blade and tail out of her head and stepped back, unwinding my other tail from around her torso as her body went limp and slumped against my grasp, before falling over and hitting the ground with a soft thud.

"Well, that takes care of that. It’s a good thing I came with you, we managed to take down a Unique Monster without so much as a scratch. I mean, she did land a couple of hits, but still," Remarked Celes, as she swooped down and landed next to me, playfully bumping her shoulder against mine.

"Yeah, I’d say either of us probably would’ve been able to take her down solo, but it wouldn’t have been easy. If nothing else, we definitely wouldn’t have been unscathed," I replied, before she gave me a high five as I held my hand up.

"We got lucky that she didn’t have any ranged attacks, and I’m guessing she came into existence pretty recently, she wasn’t making the best use out of her tentacles," Mused Celes thoughtfully.

"I noticed that too, and the way she fought was kinda straightforward and easy to read, there wasn’t any real subtlety in her movements. I guess we lucked out that she showed up here while still inexperienced, she probably would’ve given us a lot more trouble if she’d showed up sometime later," I nodded warily. ƒreewebɳovel.com

"Well, I wouldn’t worry too much, it’s pretty unlikely that we’ll encounter a threat that both of us aren’t capable of handling together. And if we do, then...we’ll just have to cross that bridge if and when we get to it," She shrugged wryly.

"Yeah, I suppose you’re right, no point in worrying about what-ifs and maybes. Come on, let’s get back and let Arucei know what happened, and then go home."

"Sure, sounds good, lead the way."
