Chapter 509: Chapter 509 - Epilogue(Part 9)

"Way to go, you two, who knows what would’ve happened if you hadn’t defeated that Unique Monster?" Smiled Arucei gratefully.

"I don’t know, I think you would’ve been able to defeat her too, though it probably would’ve been pretty close," Mused Celes thoughtfully.

"Heh, maybe you could’ve helped too," I said to Celt with a wry smile.

"No way, fighting’s not my thing," He shook his head firmly.

It was the following night, and to celebrate our win, we decided to invite Arucei and Celt over, just to hang out and chill.

We had plenty of snacks and drinks spread out on the table, a sizeable stack of joints, and some games to play.

We were currently playing a game of ludo, and it was pretty close. Each of us only had one piece left, and more or less the same amount of distance to cover to reach the goal.

"Alright it’s my turn...oh, nice, a six," I grinned, as I rolled the dice onto the middle of the board and moved my piece, before rolling again, "A four, not bad."

"Crap, you’re catching up to my piece," Frowned Arucei warily, before taking the dice and rolling it, grimacing as she got a two and moved her piece.

She’s seven spaces ahead of my piece, and Celes is about ten spaces ahead of her, while Celt was a good fifteen spaces behind me. Of course, that’s just two sixes and a three away from catching up to me, so I can’t take it easy.

"My turn now. Okay, a five, I’ll take that," Nodded Celes, before moving her piece.

"Alright, let’s see...six," Muttered Celt, moving his piece before picking up the dice, and proceeded to roll another six.

W-Wait, no...

"Ohh, so close!" Exclaimed Arucei, as Celt rolled a five, moving two spaces ahead of me.

"Huh. And now I’m giving chase...come on, two, two, two, two...YES!!!" I grinned triumphantly, as I rolled a two and cut Celt’s piece, sending it back to the starting block.

He won’t be able to move until he rolls a one or six, this might be it for him.

And since I just cut a piece, I can roll again. And...

"Come on!" Groaned Arucei, as I rolled a five and cut her piece too, sending it right back to the start.

"Sweet, a six," I grinned, moving my piece forward, until it was a four spaces behind Celes...come on, let my luck hold out just one more roll...!

"Yes!" Celes pumped her fist with a sigh of relief as I rolled a five, ending up one space ahead of her.

Okay, nothing to worry about...so long as she rolls anything besides a one, she’ll end up in front of me again, and I’ll have another chance to-...

"You’ve gotta be kidding me," I muttered, as she rolled a one and cut my piece.

"Heh, looks like I’m the only one in play now, you guys should hurry up and get back in the game," She grinned, before rolling a six, followed by another six, and then a three.

She was just one space away from the row of spaces leading to her finish line.

"A two, I can’t play," Sighed Celt, rolling the dice before tossing it to me.

"Alright, a one...would’ve preferred a six so that I could roll again, but it could’ve been worse," I mused, before giving the dice to Arucei.

"Six," She muttered, moving her piece to her first space, before rolling again, getting another six...which put her exactly one space behind Celes’s.

"No!" Exclaimed Celes in dismay, as Arucei rolled a one and cut her piece, before she groaned and slumped back in her seat as she added, "Come on...if I’d rolled just one number higher, I’d have been home free. This sucks! I was so close!"

"Nice, a five," Smiled Arucei, before moving her piece.

"Come on, give me a six or a one, I need a shot at revenge...damn it!" Huffed Celes, as she rolled a four.

Seems this game is going to go on for a while yet...

...

...

"I don’t want to play this game ever again," Muttered Celt with a strained sigh, slumping back wearily. freewebnσvel.cøm

Yeah, I think we all share that sentiment. After Arucei cut Celes’s piece, the game proceeded to drag on for another hour. We just kept cutting each other and forcing each other to start over, over and over.

Eventually, Arucei got her piece to the finish line, and we decided to end the game there instead of playing for second and third place.

"Let’s play something that has no chance of dragging on. Something we can play and finish quickly," Suggested Celes, as she took a deep puff of a joint and exhaled through her nostrils.

"Sounds good to me. That rules out uno...how about bullshit or joker?" I suggested, after mulling it over.

"I vote for bullshit," Responded Celt, after mulling it over.

"Yeah, I’m on board with that too," Nodded Arucei in agreement.

"Alright, then it’s settled," I replied, as I put away the ludo board and took out a card pack, giving it a quick shuffle before dealing it out into four piles of fourteen.

It had the usual fifty-two cards, plus four jokers. The only way to get rid of the jokers is by lying. Aaand I’ve got two of the four jokers in my hand. Great.

"Whoever has the three of clubs starts, right?" Recalled Celes.

"Yup, and that’s me. Two threes," I remarked, setting both my jokers facedown.

"One three," Stated Arucei, setting a card down on top of mine.

Yes! Nice, I got rid of both my jokers right away, good start.

"Hm? You look relieved, Larrk...you were lying, weren’t you?" Realized Celes with a wry smile.

"Seriously? Damn it, I should’ve called you out, I really thought you wouldn’t go for a lie on the very first round," Sighed Arucei in response.

"Well, who knows? Maybe I really did play two threes," I shrugged cryptically, keeping my expression even.

"One three," Declared Celes, placing a card onto the pile.

"Same," Responded Celt, as he set a card down.

"Huh, guess I’m not the only one lying, unless there are five threes in this deck...two threes," I smirked, as I placed two more cards onto the pile.

"There’s no way I’m calling you out, not with the number of cards in play. So, I pass," Sighed Arucei.

"One three!" Grinned Celes, placing another card onto the pile.

"Pass," Replied Celt.

"Okay, I guess that’s the end of the first round-...," Began Arucei.

"Nope, not yet...two threes," I chuckled smugly, before glancing at Celes, "Unless you wanna call me out."

"Yeah, no. I pass," She responded with a wry smile, before adding, "Well played, Larrk."

"Heh, thanks."
