Chapter 507: Chapter 507 - Epilogue(Part 7)

"Hey, Larrk, do you have any idea how to make technology and, like, invent stuff?" Celes asked me.

"If I did, I already would have," I replied with a wry smile.

We were watching an anime about a character reinventing modern technology in a primitive era in the future, you know the one.

"Well, it does look pretty tough, but I bet we can pull it off," She responded optimistically.

"I mean, maybe? I don’t know, I-...," I began, before trailing off as a loud, panicked knock on our door rang out.

"Hm? Wonder who that could be? Arucei again?" Mused Celes, following after me as I headed for the front door.

"I doubt it, it’s only been two days since she came over, and knowing how hard she works, I’d say it’s pretty unlikely," I replied, before opening the door, one of the Adventurers standing outside with an urgent look on his face.

"W-We have a problem, sir, a flare was set off around the northwest section of the wall!" He exclaimed, before either of us could say anything.

"Huh, did Hyuma send more Adventurers to attack? I doubt they can get past the Monsters, but I suppose I should go have a look regardless," I sighed, cracking my knuckles.

"I’ll come too," Remarked Celes, bounding after me before shutting and locking the door.

"Good luck!" Called out the Adventurer, as Celes and I flew up into the air and headed northwest at full speed, shooting through the air rapidly.

It shouldn’t take us more than a couple of minutes to get there at our speed, and with how much the Monsters’ numbers have grown lately, the attacking forces may well end up completely wiped out by the time we get there.

Well, it’s fine, it won’t hurt to get a bit of exercise, Celes and I have been pretty idle lately. I mean, we don’t need to exercise or anything, since our bodies are always in peak physical condition, but our battle senses and instincts have probably gotten a bit dulled.

We should try and make a habit of sparring against each other on a regular basis, just to keep ourselves sharp.

Anyway, the wall soon came into sight, and as we drew closer to it, I grimaced as a loud crash rang out from the other side. Looks like whoever set off the flare already retreated, good.

We decided to set up scouts along the top of the wall at regular intervals, so that we could be instantly alerted through signal flares if anything happened.

And we also instructed them to immediately retreat after setting off a flare, since there’s no reason to make them risk their lives by staying. ƒreewebɳovel.com

Celes and I flew up and over the wall, my eyes widening at the sight below...dozens upon dozens of Monster corpses strewn all around the ground, and a lone figure standing amidst the carnage, a woman.

She had shortish, messy red hair, golden eyes with the whites of her eyes black, a light brown complexion, and was of about average height and build. Most noticeably, though...she had six dark red tentacles extended out of her lower back, each one about two meters long. That, and the fact that Appraisal isn’t working on her, can only mean one thing...we’re looking at a Unique Monster.

"Humans? No...you’re like me. Hm...but something is different. There’s something that feels...human," She frowned, tilting her head slightly as she narrowed her eyes at us.

"Based on that, I think it’s safe to assume she isn’t human on the inside like we are. She’s a Monster both inside and out," Surmised Celes warily.

"What are you after? We don’t want to fight if we don’t have to," I called out.

"But I do. I desire to kill all," She responded, before I tensed as I felt her bloodlust.

There’s no spite or malice behind it, it’s just a pure desire to kill for the sake of it. Alright, then...I guess we have to fight.

Celes gave me a nod as we exchanged a glance, before we shot down towards the Unique Monster, who suddenly extended her tentacles up towards us with immense speed.

I veered across to evade them, transforming my hands and slashing at one of the tentacles, before my eyes widened in surprise as the blade slid right across the skin without cutting through, a thin, slimy layer coating the tentacles.

I weaved through the air, before putting on a burst of speed with a powerful flap of my wings as I closed in on the Unique Monster and unfurled a rapid slash at her head as she rapidly retracted her tentacles.

She twisted her body across, my blade slicing through the top of her right shoulder, blood pouring out before the wound rapidly closed up, the Monster racing away as Celes fired down a devastating bolt of black lightning, a dark flash bursting out as her attack collided against the ground, charring it black.

Suddenly, the Monster’s forearms and hands tranformed, morphing and taking the shape of jet-black, twisted, drill-like spikes.

She shot towards me, zigzagging to evade Celes’s lightning, before launching herself up and forward with her tentacles as I unleashed a blast of blue flames at her, before splitting my tail in two and sending them zipping up towards her as she plummeted towards me.

She batted my tails away with two of her tentacles, before driving her right arm towards my head. I narrowly deflected the thrust of her arm with my left blade, before spinning around as she slipped behind me, springing back and firing out a blazing wave of blue flames at her from my mouth.

She quickly bunched her tentacles out in front of herself, a sharp sizzle ringing out as my flames collided against her defense, searing her tentacles.

As the flames petered out, she detached her burnt tentacles, almost instantly growing new ones as she narrowed her eyes at me. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com

Doesn’t look like she’s got any projectile attacks, those tentacles and piercing drill arms, plus her immense physical prowess, seems to be the extent of her abilities. But she might be keeping something up her sleeve, so I can’t let my guard down.

"By the way, you got a name?" I inquired, as she eyed me warily.

"A name? What need do I have for a name...when I’ll leave no one alive to remember it?"
