Chapter 508: Chapter 508: Death Comes Knocking

On the other end of the phone, Joanne White kept her voice low. "She’s in the plaza in front of the complex right now, and there’s a strange man with her..."

Melody Summers heard this and asked, puzzled, "A strange man? What does he look like?"

’Could it be Simon Lancaster?’

’Or maybe Robert or Silas Lancaster?’

Joanne White replied, "I don’t know him, but he looks a little familiar, like I’ve seen him somewhere before... Let me take a picture and send it to you!"

A few seconds later, a picture came through.

Melody Summers opened the photo. It showed a middle-aged man in his thirties with a square face.

Melody racked her brain but found she had no memory of the man in the photo.

On the other end of the line, Joanne continued, "The two of them are registering for housing with the other survivors. It looks like they’re planning to stay here. Do you need me to go over and try to get some information out of them for you?"

Melody thought for a moment and replied, "No, don’t. Since he looks familiar to you, maybe he actually knows you..."

Thinking about Joanne’s history of attracting the wrong kind of men, Melody felt there was a good chance this stranger was someone Joanne had gotten mixed up with before.

Recalling news stories about crimes of passion, she instinctively warned, "These are special circumstances. You should be careful. Don’t confront them directly. Just keep an eye on their movements for me."

After hanging up, Melody stared at the photo on her phone again but still had no idea who he was.

’Maybe he’s someone new Sylvia Lancaster found after she and Winston Sheffield split up.’

With that thought, Melody put the matter aside. She had other things to do today. The large batch of peaches and grapes she’d picked yesterday was still waiting to be shipped. After a quick meal, she returned to her space to get back to work.

Melody worked in her space until evening. As she was eating dinner, she got another call from Joanne White.

"I remember who that man is!" Joanne’s voice on the other end trembled with terror. "It’s Mr. Caelus! He’s Mr. Caelus!"

"What?!" Hearing the name, Melody gripped her phone tightly. "Are you sure it’s him?"

Joanne answered with certainty, "It’s him! He must have been in disguise before, which is why I didn’t recognize him right away."

Joanne’s words sent a shock through Melody—

She never would have imagined that Mr. Caelus, the subject of a nationwide manhunt, would brazenly appear at The Metropolis Residences. ’The audacity!’

Just as Melody was about to hang up and call the police, Joanne spoke again. "I just followed them secretly and overheard their conversation... They said they’re going to the villa district to find you after dark! To... to get rid of you!"

Melody: "..."

’Well, in that case, I won’t be calling the police...’

As night fell, Felix Ford and Sylvia Lancaster left the apartment building under the cover of darkness and made their way to the villa district.

Compared to the apartment blocks crowded with survivors, the villa district was much quieter. Aside from the wind and rain, there was hardly another sound.

Sylvia pulled her raincoat tighter around herself and said worriedly, "Mr. Ford, if that Melody Summers has already obtained the space, isn’t it very dangerous for us to go looking for her now...?"

It was no wonder Sylvia was worried. She knew the space had the ability to kill...

After binding with the space in her past life, Sylvia had explored it thoroughly. She knew that in addition to the stream and farmland, it could also store items from the outside world.

An idea suddenly struck her—since the space could store things, could it also store "people"?

’If it can, maybe I can keep a group of slaves in the space and have them farm for me!’

Sylvia had grown up in the city. She didn’t know how to farm, nor did she want to. If she could capture a group of slaves and make them farm for her in the space, she would have her own personal farm!

With this in mind, Sylvia had laid in ambush by the roadside and waited for a lone worker. After some effort, she successfully pulled him into the space.

But to Sylvia’s surprise, the worker she had pulled into the space instantly became a breathless corpse!

Shocked, Sylvia quickly tossed the body out of the space.

After this incident, Sylvia realized that living people couldn’t enter the space. She gave up on the idea of capturing slaves to farm for her and began to focus on selling the water from the stream.

But if Melody Summers had the space in this life, and if she knew she could use it to kill...

A shiver ran down Sylvia’s spine at the thought.

’If Melody has the space, aren’t she and Felix Ford just walking to their deaths?!’

Hearing Sylvia’s concerns, Felix shook his head and answered decisively, "Impossible!"

At first, Felix had also suspected that Melody Summers might have the space, but he later thought it through—

’Maybe this Melody Summers really was reborn, but there’s no way she could have gotten the space.’

Felix didn’t know much about the space, but he knew its greatest value was likely the spring water with healing properties.

He had investigated carefully since his rebirth, and to this day, no one was selling such spring water through any channel.

’If that Melody Summers really had the space, why would she pass up such an opportunity to get rich?’

’Besides, if she really had the space, why would she be content to stay here as an unknown nobody?’

’She could use the space to win over the masses, gradually eliminate all who oppose her, and become the ruler of this world!’

Felix didn’t believe anyone could resist such a temptation.

Therefore, he concluded that Melody Summers did not have the space. At most, she was a fellow returnee who had used memories from her past life to hoard some supplies and buy a few properties in The Metropolis Residences ahead of time.

But even so, Felix couldn’t allow another returnee besides himself to exist in this world. He was determined to eliminate Melody Summers, this potential destabilizing element.

Hearing Felix’s explanation, Sylvia relaxed a little.

’It makes sense,’ she thought. ’If Melody really was reborn and had the space, she could have just used it to kill me directly instead of letting me go time and time again.’

’If I’m being honest with myself, if I were Melody, I wouldn’t have let myself live, not after everything that happened in our past life...’

At this thought, Sylvia resolved to strike first. Since Melody was a returnee, she could not be allowed to live!

Each with their own ulterior motives, the two walked until they were near The Summers Villa. The area was deserted, illuminated only by the faint glow of the streetlights.

Felix hid in the shadow of a streetlight and instructed Sylvia, "In a moment, you’ll go knock on the door. Lure her into this alley, and I’ll take care of her. Got it?"

Sylvia nodded solemnly and replied, "Got it!"
