Chapter 507: Chapter 507: An Unwelcome Visitor
The more Sylvia Lancaster thought about it, the more certain she became. ’Melody Summers is, in all likelihood, also reborn, and she was reborn much earlier than any of them.
’How else could one explain how she’s living so comfortably amidst the disaster?
’How else could one explain why she bought so many houses in The Metropolis Residences? That’s suburban property with no appreciation value! If she hadn’t known about the flood and the reconstruction zone in advance, who in their right mind would try to flip houses there?’
Sylvia Lancaster now hated herself for figuring it out too late. Back then, she was just glad that this world’s Melody Summers hadn’t returned to the Lancaster Family to be an eyesore, never once considering that she might have been reborn.
At this thought, a chill ran down Sylvia’s spine. ’If Melody Summers is also reborn, then she must know about the space. I’ve searched every corner of Anworth for it all this time and still haven’t found it. Could it be that Melody already got to it first?’
Sylvia didn’t dare tell Mr. Felix Ford anything about rebirth, so she could only say that Melody Summers had precognitive abilities.
Hearing Sylvia’s words, Felix frowned slightly. He instinctively thought, ’Could it be that this Melody Summers she’s talking about is also reborn?’
Felix felt that it was indeed a possibility.
He pondered for a moment before saying in a low voice, "Do you know where she lives? I need to meet this woman!"
’If that’s really the case...’ he thought, ’...then this woman can’t be allowed to live...’
Early this morning, an uninvited guest arrived at the Summers Villa.
Winston Sheffield was dressed in a crisp suit, his leather shoes polished to a shine. It was clear he had even gotten his hair specially styled.
However, despite his glamorous attire, his face was a mess of black and blue, making for a comical sight.
He held an umbrella in one hand while relentlessly ringing the doorbell of the Summers Villa with the other, looking as if he wouldn’t stop until they opened the door.
Inside the villa, Melody Summers pointed to the peephole camera and said to Nina Summers, "...Looking at him, I’m guessing he’s here for you."
’Winston Sheffield, dressed up like a preening peacock first thing in the morning...’ Melody didn’t need to be a genius to know what he was up to—
’He had most likely found out about the relationship between Winnie Summers and Nina Summers. On top of that, he had been fired from the reconstruction department, so he wanted to win Nina back.’
Melody observed Nina’s expression and probed indirectly, "So, are you going out to see him?"
Thinking about what had happened at the banquet, Melody wasn’t sure what Nina would choose.
If Nina chose to forgive Winston Sheffield and get back together with him, then Melody could only respect her choice.
But Nina shook her head. She activated the video intercom’s call function and shouted through the speaker, "Winston Sheffield, what are you doing here? Get lost!"
Hearing Nina’s voice, Winston, standing outside, immediately perked up. He hurriedly shouted at the camera, "Nina, is that you, Nina? Darling, hurry and open the door!"
The word "darling" almost made Nina sick to her stomach. The memory of Winston mercilessly beating her in front of his mistress made her feel disgusted just by the sight of him now!
Before Nina could answer, Winston spoke again. "Darling, I’m here to take you home! I was wrong the other day. It was all my fault for being foolish for a moment. Please forgive me, won’t you?"
"Darling, without you by my side these past few days, I feel like a piece of me is missing. I’ve finally realized that you’re the one I’ve always loved. Let’s make up. Let’s not give each other the cold shoulder anymore, okay?"
"I know I did something wrong before. I promise I’ll never mistreat you again. Just come home with me first, and I’ll slowly make it up to you, okay?"
Listening to Winston’s string of apologies, Nina felt nothing at all.
Nina wasn’t that stupid. Winston used to look down on her, showed her no respect, and cheated on her shamelessly. Now he was crawling back, begging to get back together, for no other reason than that he knew her aunt, Winnie Summers, was a leader in the reconstruction department.
’How were Winston Sheffield’s actions any different from her own father’s, Caleb Summers?’
’They were both the type to use relationships for personal gain, nothing but opportunistic scum!’
The thought made Nina even more disgusted with Winston. She yelled at the camera, "I don’t want to see you! We’ve been over for a long time. Now get lost! I’ve already called the police!"
Hearing Nina’s words, Winston was momentarily in disbelief—
For all these years, Nina had always been chasing after him, wanting nothing more than to marry him. Even when he was cold and dismissive, she took it all without a word of complaint.
’Now that I’m here trying to win her back, how can she have this attitude?’
Remembering how gentle and considerate Nina used to be, Winston couldn’t help but feel wronged. He said, unwilling to give up, "Nina Summers, how can you be so heartless..."
"We were together for so many years! I just made a small mistake that all men make. Why can’t you forgive me just this once? Are you really going to throw away all our feelings for each other?!"
Nina remained silent on the other side of the camera. Winston softened his tone again. "Nina, I really know I was wrong. I shouldn’t have cheated with that Sylvia Lancaster, but I was forced into it! She was the one who seduced me!"
"I finally see it clearly now. The person I love has always been you, and only you. Nina, I’ve already broken up with Sylvia. Please, give me another chance!"
As he spoke, Winston opened the gift box he was holding and said gently, "Nina, this is my family’s heirloom ring. It’s only passed down to the wife of the eldest son in the main branch. I’m giving it to you now. Let’s go back and get married, okay?"
But no matter what Winston said, Nina didn’t make another sound.
Winston grew anxious and mashed the doorbell a few more times. The Sheffield Family was at the end of its rope. He absolutely had to win Nina back today!
The past few days had turned the Sheffield Family’s world upside down. Mrs. Sheffield had died of a stroke in the ambulance, and Mr. Sheffield couldn’t be saved even after being admitted to the ICU.
After the two elders passed away, the Sheffield descendants were arrested and taken in for investigation before they even had a chance to arrange the funerals.
The eldest son, Mitchell Sheffield, was accused of accepting bribes. The second son, Scott Sheffield, was accused of embezzling public funds. The third son, Jim Sheffield, faced the most serious charges: in addition to accepting bribes and misappropriating disaster relief supplies, he was also accused of rape and intentional homicide.
The bad news sent shockwaves through the rest of the family. After thinking it over and over, Winston decided his first move should be to win Nina back. As long as he could marry Nina, the Summers Family would have to provide the Sheffields with at least some degree of protection!
So, Winston got Nina’s address from Caleb Summers and rushed over first thing in the morning.
Just as Winston was about to press the doorbell again, a hand shot out from behind him and gripped his wrist tightly—
Officer Tristan Tanner looked at him with a serious expression and said in a deep voice, "Winston Sheffield, is it? We’ve received a report that you’re harassing someone. You’ll have to come with us."
Inside the villa, Nina finally breathed a sigh of relief as she watched Winston being led away by the police.
’What bad luck, running into something like this so early in the morning!’
Seeing this, Melody patted her on the back, about to offer a few words of comfort. But unexpectedly, her phone suddenly rang.
"Hello?"
Melody had just answered the call when Joanne White’s voice came from the other end: "That woman you asked me to keep an eye on the other day—she’s back in the neighborhood!"
