Chapter 36: Anti-Magic?

Corrupted Savant roared, a loud guttural sound that almost shook the ground beneath their feet. He raised one hand, laced with crimson lines and burn marks.

Jacob narrowed his glowing blue eyes and slowly rolled his shoulders, the remaining flames around him dying out almost instantly.

Corrupted Savant frowned, "Let’s see you adapt to this!" He yelled, a barrage of tiny red lights began to appear in the air above him.

There was no muttering, no spell, just tiny balls of red light, silently resting in the space above him.

Jacob exhaled slowly and pointed Excalibur downward.

"At this point, I think your attacks are only helping me grow stronger." The boy smirked mischievously.

The molten half of the man’s body bubbled violently in rage.

"INSOLENT CHILD!"

BOOMM!

Hundreds of red, laser-like beams flew towards Jacob.

Step.

Dodge.

Twist.

Slide.

Jacob easily evaded everyone, watching as they crashed into the ground and the tree stubs behind him, creating tiny craters with each collision.

Not a single beam touched him, but the corrupted man wasn’t done.

BOOMMM!

The ground exploded beneath corrupted Savant’s feet as he shot forward like a meteor, his corrupted fist aimed towards Jacob’s face, surely an attempt to create the initial ’One Punch.’

Jacob calmly raised two fingers.

CLANG!

A translucent wall of compressed space appeared before him, and Savant’s fist collided against it violently, sending shock waves throughout the forest.

Some trees bent backwards from the pressure.

"W—what?" Corrupted Savant growled.

"You rely too much on brute force," Jacob said calmly.

SNAP!

The space instantly folded inwardly.

Savant’s corrupted arm became trapped momentarily within the warped distortion.

Jacob stepped forward casually.

"Lightning sword strike!"

CRACKLE!

Blue flickers of lightning began to appear around Excalibur, and Jacob’s blue eyes glowed with more intent than ever.

Before Savant could react—

SLASH!

The blade severed his corrupted arm cleanly, leaving not a single blood stain on Excalibur.

The molten limb crashed onto the ground and exploded into black flames.

"RARRGHH!!"

Corrupted Savant stumbled backwards, roaring out in pain. His guttural screams shook the trees. Dark energy immediately began gathering around the wound as he attempted to regenerate the limb.

An action that so obviously took a toll on his corrupted body.

Jacob observed quietly.

The corruption restored the arm slowly. Very slowly.

"The more you use your power, the more unstable your body becomes."

"Shut up! You know NOTHING!" Corrupted Savant screamed.

The corrupted humans slammed both palms together instantly.

The entire forest darkened.

Black symbols spread across the ground beneath Jacob’s feet.

<Warning: High intensity corruption detected>

"Abyssal domain: Dark Graveyard"

BOOMMM!!

Thousands of dark tendrils erupted from beneath the earth, rushing towards Jacob at an alarming pace.

Jacob merely sighed.

The world slowed, and every tendril became predictable. He carefully imbued his sword with light and began to dance through each and every one, cutting them down with practised rhythm.

Each tendril he slashed immediately dissipated into a puff of black smoke.

"How are you reading my attacks?" Savant’s eyes widened.

Jacob smiled faintly.

"You talk too much."

Suddenly, Jacob vanished from his position, Savant spun around.

Too late.

Excalibur hummed violently, glowing a radiantly blue colour.

Jacob placed a free hand on Savant’s chest.

Before he could respond— frёeωebɳovel.com

"Anti-Magic pulse."

A burst of pale blue energy exploded outward, sending corrupted Savant flying off a few meters away.

Every demonic rune on his body flickered violently. The corruption immediately began to destabilise as the man writhed in pain.

"GAHHH!" He screamed as he vomited black blood.

His molten body began cracking apart.

"You!... What did you do?!"

Jacob stepped backwards slowly, eyes still locked intently on the corrupted human.

"I disrupted the Qi flow between you and the corruption."

The flames around Savant began to spiral out of control, and the corruption was consuming him from within.

The ground trembled.

"No—No! This can’t happen, you told me..." his pupils darted from side to side, his hands curled in pain.

He immediately began chanting again, "miiravéth... korvesh... se—"

"Enough!" Jacob pointed Excalibur at him, light began to gather around the blade.

The surrounding darkness recoiled instantly from it. This was no ordinary light.

Jacob, for the first time, was about to make full use of his bloodline.

The forest became silent, Savant’s eyes shook in fear for the first time that night.

"You..."

Jacob looked at him with a hint of remorse. He genuinely felt pity for him, what he had become, what he had let the corruption do to him.

He thought back to a few minutes ago, when he took the decision to use his Anti-magic affinity, he created a clone in Kalgin and charged it with the responsibility of creating one move that would disrupt the corruption entirely.

He looked at corrupted Savant for the last time.

Lightning began to warp around the blade.

Space distorted around its edge.

Anti-Magic energy flowed through its centre.

Savant raised one hand to block his vision from the overwhelming energy that the blade exuded.

Then Jacob swung.

"Celestial rend."

SHINNGGG!

A single horizontal slash of white-blue light crossed the battlefield, the impact resounded through the forest in an instant.

Then there was dead silence.

Savant stood frozen, his mouth fell open, and the corruption split apart, causing his body to crack from shoulder to waist.

The Abyssal energy inside him exploded forward before dissolving into particles of black ash.

Savant fell face flat on the ground.

For a moment, it seemed as though clarity returned to him.

"It sees you, Jacob."

Jacob frowned and squatted. "What are you talking about?" He inquired.

Savant looked up weakly.

"The Void..."

His body disintegrated before he could finish his statement.

The forest became silent one more, Jacob stood there, Excalibur resting on his shoulder. freewēbnoveℓ.com

Jacob stared at the screen, a triumphant smile tugging at his lips.

"So worth it."

He breathed out a sigh of relief and turned around to exit the forest.

Just when he thought it was all over, another notification popped up.
