Chapter 37: The Calm After The Storm

Jacob stared at his system screen, stroking his chin between his index finger and his thumb.

<Would you like to add ’corrupted human’ to your shadow army?>

<Yes/No>

He pondered on it. If he did add the individual to his army, maybe he would be able to extract more information out of him, plus his talents would be a good asset on the battlefield.

He narrowed his eyes.

"Yes, Manifest!" He spoke vindictively.

Dark shadowy tendrils began to emerge from the ground, coming together and forming an individual on its knees, crouched just before him.

"At your service, Master." The shadow of Savant spoke, its form was the same height and size as his human form, only darker, similar to the night sky.

Jacob furrowed his brows, "You were saying something just before you died, what was it." Jacob looked at his soldier.

Savant stared back at him, and expression of absolute confusion on his face. "I don’t know what you mean, Master."

Jacob gestured with his right hand, spinning it around, as if to help his servant recall his words, "The Void..."

His shadow soldier blinked at him, the confused expression still plastered on its face.

Jacob sighed, pinching the bridge between his nose and his forehead and shutting his eyes as hard as possible.

"Okay. Okay, that’s fine. You can go now."

In a second, the shadow vanished, back from whence it came.

Jacob had only one thought in his mind now. He had to return to Xenia and the coachman.

"Okay. Let’s check out this teleportation skill." He muttered to himself as he activated it by stretching forth his right hand.

He carefully pictured the terrain where he left Xenia and the coachman to go off on his journey.

A large, black rectangular portal instantly appeared before him, the air compressed around it.

’Sweet.’ He mused as he walked in.

Zaheer suddenly woke up in a cold sweat, breathing heavily and clutching the sheets beneath his body.

"What was that dream I just had?" He muttered to himself, clutching at his chest and staring outside his window for a brief moment.

"Big brother?" A little girl said drowsily, rubbing her eyes and slowly sitting up.

It was Jasmine, his little sister, she was a light sleeper, so she noticed even the smallest movements at night.

"Are you okay, big brother?" She asked innocently, her wide eyes locked onto him like a beam.

"It’s nothing. Go back to sleep." He smiled forcefully and patted her head, gesturing her towards her pillow.

The little girl, with a worried look on her face, accepted his gestures and lay back down on her pillow. Before long, she had drifted off into a deep sleep again.

Zaheer sat up still, his fingers dug into the sheets still, his mind raced.

He stood up and walked to the window, staring out into the empty space.

He looked back at Jasmine, who lay fast asleep on the small twin bed that they shared. freewebnøvel.coɱ

’It can’t be true. It can’t be real.’ He mused as he gazed at the stars.

After a while, he decided to go back to sleep. He walked over to bed and lay beside Jasmine. As soon as his head hit the pillow, the little girl spoke. "Finally," she said, forcing a faint smile on his face.

Rhoarin and Elena had finally returned to the Ironfell castle on the back of Karron. The man bid his farewell, and they both watched as the dragon returned to the pit, tired from the battle.

"I think I should send a message to Jacob." Elena said as they walked through the halls.

Rhoarin laughed hard, his laughter bellowed throughout the halls.

"What the heck are you laughing about," She said, smacking him hard on his arm. She then folded her arms and pouted.

"The boy has barely even been gone a month," He said, chuckling and rubbing his arm in pain.

"What’s so wrong about missing my only child?" She raised a brow and gave him a don’t-you-dare-look-at-me-like-I’m-crazy glare.

He raised his hands in surrender, still chuckling, "If it makes you happy, my love. I’ll gladly put a note in there, too."

"Good, because I was gonna do it whether you agreed or not."

She kept pouting as she walked away with her head held high.

Rhoarin just stood and watched her disappear down the hall, shaking his head lightly, a faint smile played on his lips.

’This woman of mine. She’ll be the end of me.’ He mused inwardly before subtly chasing her down.

Alaric returned to his bedroom to meet the sight of Esty, who was laying the sheets of their king-sized bed.

"Ahh, there’s my lovely damsel. Did anybody else ever tell you that you’re as radiant as the twin suns in the peak of the summertime." The old man bellowed proudly as he walked in.

Esty gazed at him, her hair was tied in a ponytail and she wore a silver nightgown. It was evident that she was ready to go to sleep.

"Is that supposed to be a compliment?" She asked him, one loose hand resting on her waist.

"Why yes, my darling. You are the most beautiful woman in all seven heavens." He responded, cupping her face with both hands and kissing her forehead.

"I wonder how your flattery worked on me in the first place."

"You know I’m right." He smiled charmingly.

"Have you heard from your grandson?" She inquired, slowly getting on the bed and making herself as comfortable as possible.

"I’ve been occupied..."

"Alaric!" She said sternly.

"Fine. Fine, I’ll have a raven send a message to him. Maybe some supplies, though I’m sure he has everything he needs."

"That’s more like it."

"Happy now? My queen?" He said sarcastically and curtsied, making her giggle. Although she was over three hundred years old, she giggled like a child.

The man slowly made his way to the washroom, got cleaned up and before long, he was in bed with his wife.
